I love them old Vanagon's, Just make sure you have road assistance and plenty of tools because they are not dependable at all and will leave you stranded.
Beautiful fun rigs but no doubt they have some reliability concerns.
What a beautiful Vanagon. Thanks for sharing.
This is exactly like mine except mine has a tan exterior. My parents had the van for 20 years and bought from the original owners. It even still has the snow chains and chocks.
we have a record book in ours as well, it toured in Europe. Now lives in Pittsburgh.
wow! that one is in a great condition (Lady and Van :) ! Even here in Germany you cant find one like this any more.....Gratulations!
It was really well cared for! It’s been in the family since it was purchased.
that's a gorgeous van
Be a bit crowded with four kids but fine for a couple people. Can't beat a mini camper that can be used as a regular vehicle. Even if it is older than you are, as long as it's maintained mechanically and safe to operate on the highway.
Love that oil and gas book
Thanks! Looking at it is like stepping back in time! They recorded every destination, gas used and the cost all the way from Seattle to New York and back.

Nice. Viele Grüße aus Deutschland! :D
Greetings from Germany
Where did you get that sleeping pad? Also to put the seat back up you can lift the lower seat up till you hear a click and then use the lower seat as leverage to lift it to the seating position. I used to do it they way you show in the video.
I just bought a 85!

Weird, her name was Van Gieson too! Great van. We just bought an '85 Westy in similar condition from the original owner. Ordered lambskin seat covers - cool to see those on yours!

Beautiful van although not sure how they’re able to travel with 4 kids with not enough seatbelts.

Are you saying that this vehicle is not repainted at all?
0:27: Everything is original :-)
Original.
Congratulations and all my Best wishes.. Its really Very impressive....
how many miles?
It has just over 130k it's travelled across most of the USA.
That's how many are on my 84' westy.
Volkswagen stopped exporting their camper vans in 2003. These folks are lucky they've been able to keep this camper in the family. There are still older VW camper vans out there. But people are asking way too much money when they go up for sale. I'm not paying those ridiculous prices for a vehicle that's 20 to 40 years old. I wish an American car maker would build something like this. Not everyone wants the humongous motor homes that suck the gas and are terrible to drive and park in urban areas. I would love something like this (preferably new) that I could use as a daily driver and would fit in my garage.
How much do pop tops run for?
It depends on the year and condition. I've tried finding one before but the asking price for a VW camper van in decent shape has always been way too high, in my opinion. VW stopped exporting camper vans to the USA in 2003. VW still sells the camper van in Europe. Ironically, it's called the California camper van even though you'll never get one in California or anywhere else in the USA. Sellers of older models know there is a market for the older camper because no american car company has filled the gap left by VW.
