Over the years Ephemera has became one of my favorite categories. With your knowledge insight, experience and the whole works. You are a mentor to many. Thanks Don.
I always look through everything and never let anything be unturned to search for items. You're so lucky, but then, with all the high-quantity items, something good has the chance of turning up. Great video, Thanks Don. Charles in the UK
Hi, thank you for these awesome videos . I am a new reseller, because of your information on ephemra. Last week I bought a dusty and dirty box full of old magazines of 1960. I find in it a theater magazine that was signed by Judy Garland, at least 500$. The box cost me 15$. And in lowest price the box of magazines will make me 3000$. Thanks to you dear sir.
I’m almost exclusively paper items these days, amazing score, I pulled a civil war letter out of a sale this summer everyone missed.
You should move Waldo around for every video so we can play "where's Waldo".
Not only did you find treasure, you found history! Great eye Prof ✨
I found a gallon ziplock bag full of paper milk caps once at a thrift store for $1.99. There were hundreds inside. I divided them into lots of 6 and sold 2 right away. A couple weeks later someone came in and bought the remainder. Not a lot of money but great profit and a lot of fun to find and flip!
Awesome. I have documents and photos from the burpee seed company guy, my great uncle went to college with him and they were buddies. Love old papers
I love coming across paper items! Best paper item for me so far has been a combination. I purchased a box a little longer than a bankers box. Inside were Diaries from 1929 to 1970s which I sold for roughly $250 total then a stack of 12 Letters with Rev Fulton Sheens Signature from his office in New York City thanking someone for their donation. I sold individually for $100-$200. I paid $5 for that box , spent a total of $15 on the last day of an estate sale.
I was perusing a decrepit thrift store near Atlanta and saw they were selling books for 10 cents. Most of them were crap but I saw a book by Herbert Hoover called The Ordeal of Woodrow Wilson. Turns out it was a first edition and signed by Hoover himself. It's on eBay waiting for the right buyer.
Awesome find!!! Thank you for sharing, and the lessons you give have prepared me for what I found this weekend 🤑 for the first time I went to a estate sale this weekend and couldn't believe the treasures and prices ,had to go back for the last day and I was the last one there when they started throwing away what was left over and still cant believe the bolos I found the last minute . From a vintage 10k gf zippo lighter , craftsman sockets , buck knives , gun parts and the 2 winners and new bolos I found is a vintage cardboard cigar sign that last sold for 450 in worse condition and was still hanging on the wall the last day of the sale , also 4 vintage police badges that could sell over 100 each . For both days, I spent 115 , 85 the first day, and 30 the second day, and I estimate over 2000 in value . Still in shock 🤯 I thought this only happened to youtubers 😅
Great find, I did a clean out more than 20 yrs ago I got Porno magazines and Germany Hitler books and post cards things that are prohibited for sale in my mind
I also go through those personal files at a sale. Found an old map that sold in an hour. Old wedding registers. etc.
I recently came accross some old letters at an estate sale. I bought them because I saw a date of 1837 on them. I discovered they were letters about giving $3000 to General Martin Perfecto De Cos to distribute among the Mexican prisoners of war in Liberty Texas after Texas declared independence from Mexico in 1836. Would really like find out more about it.
I often do well on the last day.
Older ephemera in foreign languages is always good for a punt. International communication was much less in the past and so any documents were more likely to be important or valuable.
What are your tips for old non fiction genres? I have found that unusual dual language dictionaries often turn out to be good sellers.
Paper grocery bag full of miscellaneous items. Biggest score was a program and two ticket stubs from the 1958 championship football game between the Baltimore Colts and the New York Giants. Known as the greatest game ever played. Sold it for $575. Paid $10 for one item and the people looked at the rest of the stuff and said "Oh, that's just junk. You can have it all." I ran for the car. Made over $1500 on the "junk". Sold the $10 item for $20.
I found a "Kaloma" 1914 Silver Gelatin Print by Pastime Novelty Print Co. NY here in New Zealand at a car boot sale for $2.00. Do these still carry any value?
That's so cool
