Wow, Tom Brilliant. Working here in Barcelona, i took a group of 12 boys aged 3-5 years old(in my 20th year of Coaching). i Started with simple play (Chaos) with the ball, cones, goals..(Foundation movement). What amazed me is how quick the children learnt. Here in Barcelona 6-10 years is an area for specialists coaches(lots of deep knowledge). Over 4 years we developed a team that could play great football (Technically and tactically in locals leagues). Now all at 10 years, 4 are in Pro academies and 6 are playing very high standard of local football here in Barcelona. Its was sad, but i was happy to see them fly and follow their dreams. Two moved to ofher sports (basketball and volleyball).. a great experience..
I agree. I must buy and read his book.. Christmas!!! Here, team training is now regarded as that(2 or 3 nights a week) for the team. But, Parents are now increasingly taking ownership here in Spain ..(what extras can we do to get better).. asking for Coach reviews.. So parents can organise extras ie Technical training(Ball and positional mastery), Strength & Conditioning Training, Nutrition & food education, Tec schools (Practice and play) in tournament’s, Yoga, meditation.. anything to get a marginal gain.. “especially for the bettter players fighting to get into pro acedemys…”.. parents here in Barcelona are going to another lvl
“One Brain” - Tom Byer. I’ve used that concept to connect soccer with school and everything else. It is a teaching device to connect things that he’s good at with things which need improvement… “remember son, one brain, if you’re good at this you can be good at that too.”
