DGR I know a way to maybe get there. Finish the Festival but before you enter the you leave the festival, long jump from the building and you should be in the streets of NDC
Well, the structure sounds like the platform that's normally there with the blue thing on it. It obviously has different property as it changes between ALL instances of New Donk.
I mean, this is clearly a separate map from the regular New Donk City. For all we know, even if one were to get past the death wall and reach the ground, they would just fall straight through. Nintendo wouldn't have bothered with the collisions on something you should never be allowed to reach.
Had a feeling that would be brought up. But there's a major difference : even if you can't reach it as Mario, you're intended to reach it as the Shiverian Champion for the actual races. It's no stretch to assume that the game simply teleports you there instead of loading a separate map. And even if that's not the case, let's recall that only a very small portion of the racetrack has collision. It might very well be leftovers from the collision box of the indoors area.
ShycoWar this is also like something in skyward sword we're in the desert world you were able to get to the land above the cliffs and ALL of it was textured
That's interesting though I think the invisible platform is the other roof top next to the Odyssey but just made invisible for some reason who knows maybe the girders are still there as well.

I have a new challenge, not rlly sure of it is possible, but it might be fun to try, up in the northwest corner of the sand kingdom, there is the bullet Bill maze challenge, try to do that but without the bullet bill, and yes, I’m aware you can get on top of the maze, but try it without getting on top of the maze, I raged a lot at this, but it’s worth a shot, I was never able to do it, so good luck 🍀:)
Here’s a challenge for you. In New Donk City, you have to try to get the scooter on the ground (near the park) and get it on top of a building. Good luck!
Just saying, you can use the Talkatoo glitch (A glitch that makes the camera stay on Talkatoo while Mario can freely move around) to see the city (At least from Talkatoo's perspective) during the festival! The sky turns orange, it looks quite scary to be honest.

Hey DGR! Don't know if this is of any importance but if you time it right, you can do a roll and then triple jump from the rail facing the "invisible platform."
Cheesedudepickles no because they're all gone during that state and you must go to the Cascade kingdom and revive the odyssey to go to the cap kingdom and then you'll have some moons to collect
when going for distance throw your cap later, throwing it right away stops your momentum and you had more momentum with a long jump than with a cap dive
I have a challenge! Try to get as far as possible in the game (maybe on stream if you really like it), but Mario is a hydrophobic. So you can't touch water what so ever.
You might be able to get into New Donk City after you exit the 2D section. I think your best chance of an exit would be next to Pauline (because jumping next to her starts her dialogue, so Nintendo may not have considered jumping around that part.)
Do assist mode! When you fall you don't die! You go into a bubble and go back to where you were last standing! (But you will lose 1 hp) And also, you have infinite breath underwater, you have 6 health automatically, and if you stand still you regenerate health! Pretty useful for glitches like this.
I’ve discovered that if you enter the city hall while in the talkatoo glitch, the camera will stay in place instead of following you in. The city gets an orange hue and a few buildings become glitchy. Unfortunately I don’t think it’s possible to enter the festival during this glitch due to the NPC that you talk to in order to start the festival hasn’t loaded
The city look really weird if you lock the camera at the jump rope challenge and then go to the building where the festive is using your map to see where you are and the sky will turn into this hell like place
From the looks of it, you're landing to the right of the skyscraper the Odyssey is on. That part of the model is removed completely, but they must have forgotten to remove the collision, which allows you to stand on it when it isn't there visually.
technically you can see what it's like during the festival at the jump rope course if you do the talking to freeze camera glitch and then figure out how to start up the festival again I saw it in a video about how to cheat the jump rope glitch to where there was a clip about the person and it showed talking to on a bench during the night time festival
When you're on invisible platforms, try doing downward throws. If cappy stays ground level, you can go where you threw him. If he goes down, that's probably death if you're on an invisible platform
When looking at the city from the invisible platform, It kinda looks like a low-poly model with details mostly made of textures & I doubt that there would be any collision data, but who knows?
Have you tried getting to the streets of New Donk City from the end of the 2D section instead of the start? I don't know if it's possible, but it seems to be a lot closer.

You can use the bullet bill down below to go back, if your, you know, a wimp. IMPOSSIBLE MODE The really hard one, I forget the name. The one in dark side!
There is a kill plane above the city streets. It's completely impossible. An invisible wall would require that you get stopped. This simply freezes the camera and then mario hits the kill plane which was raised above the normal height to prevent players from exploring the city.
maybe the invisible platform was a mistake of not turning the collision of from the tarp normally, if this was done with the second piece of tarp, you would get further
Suggestion: Is it possible: You know the moon in dark side which requires 8 perfect long jumps? Try doing the long jumps to activate the bullet bill and back (16) with the invisibility cap and get the moon you get from it. PS: I did the challenge and it's on my YT so you know it's possible. I just want to see you try it (if you want to).
I haven't tried this but maybe when you go in it triggers it to stay on until you beat it so maybe if you go in the Odyssey and go to new donk city before you beat it the festival will stay and you can run around
The invisible platform is probably improperly edited out girders from normal New Donk City that debts just made invisible but forgot to take off collision

I was looking under the invisible platform in the NDC festival in line-drawing mode using snapshot mode. Strangely, I found that there was a building like shape way below the invisible platform that marks out its edges. I also saw this exact platform in another part of NDC. It was in the area where the left most platform is in. There could be an invisible platform there too!

Is it possible to get from the Showdown Arena to the Odyssey in Bowser’s Kingdom without directly touching the floor? This means that roofs, rails, and the top of unlit candles/lanterns are fair game. Any part of the ground that is the white color or red carpet counts as a fail. I call this the “Floor is lava” challenge. For an extra challenge, try to not capture any enemies. Good luck Dave! P.S. This challenge is possible, just extremely frustrating and difficult, especially near the bottom. Just try not to rip your hair out, okay.

You could try searching invisible structures by jumping from the odyssey. Its not as high but its more left and still higher than the ground

That's really easy to do. Literally just climb around the rocky area with the cannon that takes you to the cooking pot and do a ground-pound roll

I imagine that invisible platform is the building that's normally in that location, just without the visible geometry.
explore the platform a little more. if you grab the ledge again, strafe to get a sense of how big the platform is.
