I am bored so I will just type up a short what if my original characters were in the Batman universe post. It all starts in gotham park at night. Only feint streaks of moonlight shine down from the sky. A park bench appears where there previously had not been one. It looks like a hand crafted wooden park bench. The patterns of rings of wood deliberately preserved naturally instead of hidden. An old man sits on the bench with his hands folded on his lap. He looks very mundane. A plain white t-shirt. Dark blue blue jeans. White socks. A pair of black running shoes. His hair is blacker than you would expect for a man of his age. His face seems to be recently shaven. Though, bits of stubble has clearly grown back on his face. A group of four punks dressed in black leather who all have a spikey hairdue walk through the park. The leader of the small group the only one who is doing the talking. Leader- Heh heh heh heh.....and then I said! He stops suddenly as he notices the old man. An angry scowl crosses his face. Leader- Litle late for bein out here...don't cha think? The old man just continues to sit unmoving. Leader- Slice an Dice! Show em we're nasti. The four charge the old man. They suddenly find themselves levitating off the ground. Leader- Wha...what gives man? He says with a shocked look on his face with his mouth hanging open after he speaks. Batman walks out from behind a nearby tree. Batman- Let them go...now!! We do not need any more metahumans in this city! He says gritting his teeth. Old man- Meta humans? No no no no no....I am not a metahuman....I am a god. The four thugs suddenly lose consciousness before slowly levitating to the ground. Old man- Don't worry.....I did not hurt them. They are metely asleep. Batman- Why are you here? Batman says with a now calmer tone. Old Man- I wish to observe and interact. I have learned from past mistakes that I should not assume I can see the full picture. Even in my true form I am not infalible. Batman- True form? Old Man- Yes well...my true form is a bit of an oddity in this multiverse. My people were to fullfil the role of guide for the mortals. The ability to change, delete, and create. Before the creation of Creation...we were deemed dangerous. All of my kind were imprisoned for all eternity. I was allowed to escape. My higher powers and form stripped from me before hand. Much later the angels were created. Much weaker than us. They were coded lacking free will. Their natures were as they should be. I do not need to tell you how well that turned out. I have read your worlds literature after all. The old man starts staring intensely at a spot in the darkness. Batman looks in that direction seeing nothing. Old man- BEGONE!!! A wave of magic spreads outwards. An onlooker scowls reallzing he had been spotted. From the dark multiverse, Barbados says bluntly. Barbados- So he saw me. He says while sitting on a massive throne. He turns his head to the left only to see the old man floating there staring him directly in the eyes.
Have you read Batman: The Knight, also by Zdarsky? I'm surprised you didn't mention it! He lays the groundwork for Batman's flaws, fears, paranoia, perfectionism, and "thinking big" descent into inhuman delusion really well! It's no wonder some of the mentors from The Knight show up in this story arc as well!
I did read it. It certainly adds to the holistic nature of Zdarsky's run, showing the beginning of his voice for Bruce before exploring his "death" which Morrison suggested each writer provide for their take on Batman.
@CRISIS_COMICS Ooh, I'm not familiar with that Morrison quote. Do you know where I can read more about it? Or perhaps you have a video on the topic? @@mcsquigg37 Agreed. People like Denny O'Neil and Grant Morrison have always had my ideal Batman voice and they both embrace the Dark Knight elements along with the family aspect.
I'm not a fan of some of Chip's decisions. Instead of having a no-kill rule out of a reasonable principle or fear of unforgivable mistakes, his reason is now because of a goofy alter-ego he created for himself. His desire to "isolate" himself (despite always working together with Alfred or Gordon), is now based on the same thing rather than a desire to avoid possible situations like Jason's death or Barbara's paralysis. These make Batman needlessly cartoonish in a less interesting way.
Zur has existed since the 50s, Zdarksy didn’t invent it; and Zur has nothing to do with Batman’s no kill rule. Alfred was killed and Gordon is no longer the Commissioner based on recent events by other writers, so again, Zdarksy is playing with what’s already established. Zur is just another side of Batman, in the same way that we each have multiple sides to ourselves. It’s Bruce’s pride, ego, and paranoia being manifested in physical reality. Sometimes we each have to look ourselves in the mirror and deal with our own scars; seeing as it’s a comic book, Batman being able to punch his own worst qualities is in no way out of line.
@CRISIS_COMICS Zdarksy didn't invent Zur, but wasn't he the one that turned Zur into a "failsafe" character? I understand the explanation behind the story. I still think Batman would've been better off without anyone else directly controlling his thoughts. With Zur, it's basically telling the audience what viewpoints are right or wrong. It also prevents more stories from exploring the no-kill rule or isolation concept further. For example, what if we got a story about Gotham's implementation of the death penalty with the effects & Bruce's thoughts being shown throughout or the actual risks & consequences of having a young sidekick in the universe's most dangerous city, told with their personal lives (not just as Robin or Nightwing) in mind? These don't have to give us a definitive conclusion, but they would at least help to build the world without relying on a crisis-level, superhero-hunting villain.
@@anonymous_5016 That was actually Grant Morrison in Batman RIP from 2008. Zur is Batman, he isn't being controlled anymore than you or I are sometimes controlled by our darkest urges. @@ryanwilliams7639 I said in the video that it wasn't perfect, but satisfying; I even note how Zur planning out the Red Mask arc was a stretch. It's even easier to call something horrible with no justification. What I did was break down the themes that someone might not have noticed reading the issues week to week, and there's plenty of them that I noticed many people miss or misinterpret when critiquing it. People complaining that Batman was too harsh on Jason in Gotham War despite that being the entire point, that Zur is Batman's worst qualities coming to the surface that he then has to defeat with his family. Joker Year One gave a sense of legitimacy to Joker's nature as a threat to Batman, rather than his backstory being just a thug or gang lord that fell in acid and became a super genius to rival the DC's best tactical mind. @@anonymous_5016 That was actually Grant Morrison in Batman RIP from 2008. Zur is Batman, he isn't being controlled anymore than you or I are sometimes controlled by our darkest urges. He's also out of Bruce's head, so his POV going forward is truly Bruce's alone without his paranoia or ego talking. Zur would have no bearing on this hypothetical story.
these new comics especially absolute batman completely miss bruce as a character and batman as a character.
You must have not read them. I'm sorry.
Absolute is supposed to be different thats the point
I hope we do end up seeing a storyline where Batman’s mind is being fucked with and we truly see zur en arhh or however u spell it be used the way he was supposed to be used
DC has had a 'new age' every 5 seconds....
Not really, and no more than Marvel. All-In is just new writers and arcs within the same continuity being released simultaneously across many books.
@@CRISIS_COMICS I was by no means hyping Marvel. They both just say "Things will never be the same." And it's always really underwhelming. Just an observation lol.
Batman Forever? Like the movie!?!
Forever, until someone else decides to do something else.
What’s your favorite live action Batman and why?
Bale. But I don’t think any single live action Batman checks all the boxes for me, Battinson has potential but the universe is too grounded and he needs Grayson.
What issue was that when Joker was training??
Batman 2016 # 143.
@@CRISIS_COMICS thank you!
Are three Jokers still a thing?
Joker just has three personas, akin to Zur. The book called Three Jokers is an alternate universe compared to the main comic timeline.
Shock me? Why? I'm not a criminal.
The clone's hand stopped aging rapidly?
Yeah. It probably acclimated to Bruce’s metabolism.
@@CRISIS_COMICS he should've kept the robot hand, instead of that freebie.
@@DaniG._.German That would be totally thematically asinine.
Hype
7:49 IS THAT A 2022 BATMAN???
3:27 isn't bruce in his twenties physically?
No. Snyder wrote him as 32 as of 2011, he got dipped in Dionesium prior to Rebirth, but since Death Metal he's been sliding.
What are your thoughts on Gotham War,Crisis?
If you look at it from the perspective of Batman (Zur) being the bad guy it's very good.
@@CRISIS_COMICS And how Catwoman was written?
@@UnrealNeoBat I haven't read Tini's run on the her specifically so I don't have an opinion on if her journey to her approach against crime was well built-up. But within Gotham War itself I don't see what could be triggering.
@@CRISIS_COMICS A lot of folks here seem to always find a way.
@@UnrealNeoBat Most people who like or enjoy something don't go out of there way to express it online. For whatever reason people want to share in their outrage or legitimize their critiques. Videos like this where I explain the merit of a story are my attempt to turn the tide.
I hope they don't woke Batman up tho.
What do you mean?
well bruce didn't learn much since he wants once again to stop time so he can be Batman
Considering undoing the damage done to his body in an effort to better help people (which he'll most likely reject) isn't the same as embracing an alternate persona and a robot body that attacks his family.
@@CRISIS_COMICS how about be young forever so he can be Batman well forever
because once again Batman didn't learn anything
as detective comics 1090 shows us
dc 1090 just invalidated your video
Bruce wants to be a lone wolf
@@CRISIS_COMICS also get ready for another old friend turned psycho
@@ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΑ-ε1ω I just explained why 1090 has no baring on the video.
@@CRISIS_COMICS i know that but the point is that DC writers are going to tell us yet another story that show us that Bruce still will do anything to remain Batman
that the lesson he learned
that he needs his family
1090 just invalidated that lesson

Zdarskys Batman run wasn’t good.
Disagree. See video.
@@CRISIS_COMICS I did and I read it. It’s easy to make something sound good when you only tell some of the story and ignore all the negatives. Gotham war was horrible. Joker year one was horrible. Even a lot of the more positive fans don’t like this run.
I don't really care what other people think when assessing stories and what I personally took away from then.
I’m pretty early
Happy you're here!
