"At the time it was Duran Duran, Talk Talk - double-barrelled names; we just added on another to confuse people. And we would look outside and see the rain coming down. It did seem quite relevant to Glasgow." -Graeme Clark on how the band chose their name, March 1987[6]
These guys are Scottish. Tommy ( the drummer ) lived around the corner from me growing up in Clydebank, just outside Glasgow. We played football with him and Marti ( the singer ) in the park all the time.
This song was written by Reg Presley (no relation to Elvis) who was the lead singer of the British rock group, The Troggs. This song, along with two others, “Wild Thing” and “With a Girl like You,” all sold over 1 million copies and were each awarded gold discs. “Love is All Around,” reached number 5 on the UK charts in November 1967 and reached number 7 on the US charts in May 1968. The song was covered by Scottish soft rock group Wet Wet Wet and was featured in the British romcoms “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” (1994) and “Love Actually,” (2003). When it was re released in 1994 it became an international hit and spent 16 consecutive weeks at number one on the UK Singles Chart, making Reg Presley a multi millionaire as the song writer of the piece.
As an Aussie, I couldn't help but smile! Wet Wet Wet are in fact Scottish. 😃 Sweet Surrender is my personal fave of theirs! Lead singer Marti Pellow has always been PDC for me!!! Not only is he beautiful, with a stunning voice but he also has a gorgeous smile! Awesome reaction!!! 💖
The presenter was Robbie Williams from take that, Marty Pellow is Wet wet wets lead singer . This song was the title song for the movie 4 weddings and a funeral, hence its popularity..
Wet Wet Wet are from here in Scotland. Marti eventually went solo and now Wet Wet Wet perform without him while he performs solo. He's also done musicals. There's some great live performances of them together - I'd recommened Goodnight Girl, Sweet Little Mystery and Angel Eyes. So glad you did this reaction I've been hoping you'd check them out for ages now!
Huge back late 80's and early 90's. They were from Scotland. The band name Wet Wet Wet came from the lyrics to a song that included a line about "wet, wet, wet tears".
The version from the Love Actually film is my fave sung by Bill Nighy playing the Billy Mack character and they changed it to Christmas Is All Around 😊
Cover of a 1967-'68 hit by the great English band The Troggs. This new version was featured in the '90s classic English rom-com "Four Weddings and a Funeral."
The name WET WET WET actually originated in the late 60's from a Jane Fonda movie Barbarella . The evil villain in the move was called Duran, then a group called themselves Duran Duran So Marty Pellow and friends decided to take the piss out of the then rival group and named themselves WET WET WET as what they thought as a group DURAN DURAN where. Ray K UK YNWA.
back in the day we used to put band names together one I can remember was Girl Overboard.... is ....Wet Wet Wet....and......Not Drowning, Waving..I love this song , I seem to recall the name came from a song.
I know you are not a movie person. Or clarifying you can’t stay awake for a whole movie 😂. But this song was a big part of a great Christmas movie’ Love Actually ‘. Many big stars in it. Highly recommend to you. Take care
I agree 100%. I always think it's amazing that Love actually was only the 2nd best Christmas movie to come out in 2003. Elf being No.1, of course. And it is a subjective conclusion. But there probably hasn't been a better Christmas movie than Love actually to come out since then.
Sometimes they are called The Wets, to shorten it. There was another group in 80s/90s that were into electro music called Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, they were shortened to OMD
this was bbc music show top of the pops (60's-00's)in 1994.the first presenter was robbie williams, the second presenter was mark owen both from take that.the show was usually presented by various bbc radio one djs sometimes singers. i don't know where you got autralian from?they're scottish.they lose their accents when they sing. this was a cover of the troggs 1967 hit(pop not doo wop that was the 50s).it was used for hugh grant comedy film four weddings and a funeral. it was no1 in the uk for like 16 weeks.the lead singer marti pellow insisted that the song be deleted so it wouldn't get to no1 again to give other people a chance. marti started with short sticky up hair.the long hair was newish.he always had a cheeky smile.
They come from Clydebank just outside Glasgow in Scotland , I believe they are called WET WET WET because they were apprentice painters and the wet wet wet is the warning posted after painting walls or railings and such outside. lead singer Marti Pellow.
The song is associated with Christmas because it features in the movie Love Actually. The lead singer Marti Pellow and the band Wet Wet Wet are from Scotland and the clip was taken from the Christmas edition of a British show Top of the Pops.
Ms. Britt, just so you know out of all the reactors i watch you hold my two favorite out of everyone. 1. Wild Cherry - Play that Funky Music 2. Pentatonix - Daft Punk medley I also have a request though I would not doubt that you are already familiar with this group or really duo and album. Jodeci - Diary of a Mad Band from 1992. The only true album where every single song is the best.
Such a trooper, listening to Wet, Wet, Wet without water! I do love the Trogg's original, but they added enough of their own personalities to make it a very good cover. If you have to play a "Christmas" song before Thanksgiving, thiis is an excellent choice.
Reg was asked in an interview what substances he was on when writing this magical song. His answer was that it was written whilst drinking a cup of tea in his mum's front room.
Wet is the family name. There's three men from the family, so the last name is repeated 3 times. They all share the same first name as well - Allo sr. (Father), Allo (son) and Allo Jr. (Grandson). So each of them is named Allo Wet. You might of heard their more famous song, in French 'Allo Wet (ta)'
Hi Britt. I'm pretty sure this isn't a Christmas song at all. I'm open to correction on this. The link, I think, is that Bill Nighy did a reworded Christmas version for "Love actually" which was intended to be terrible for comic effect in the movie. And successfully in my view. If you are looking to review brilliant "different" Christmas songs try "A fairytale of New York" from the Pouges or "A Spaceman came travelling" by Chris de burgh (maybe a little more mainstream than the brilliant Pouges track.
This is an OK cover, but I still like the 1967 original better. The original artist, The Troggs (aka, The Troglodytes), were a British garage band with a handful of hits, including "Wild Thing", "Love is All Around", and "With a Girl Like You".
A first rate cover, although I prefer The Trogg's original. Why, indeed, would a boy band, targeting young girls, call themselves wet wet wet? No comment.

Written and performed by the Troggs in 1967. This is a great cover that mirrors the original.
🔥🔥

Love Wet Wet Wet a great Scottish band .. this was at number 1 for 15 weeks …
The lead singer Marti Pellow took a lead West End London stage role in 'Chicago'

Huge in the 80s!!!!!! They are Scottish. ‘Wishing I was lucky’ is my favourite of their songs.

So good!
I can't hear this without thinking, "...and if you really love Christmas, come on and let it snow." from Love Actually.
Wet Wet Wet.. also check out Goodnight girl and Sweet little mystery.
The presenter was Robbie Williams from take that, Marty Pellow is Wet wet wets lead singer . This song was the title song for the movie 4 weddings and a funeral, hence its popularity..
From Clydebank in Scotland, Marti Pellow, the lead singer also stars in nusical theatre now

Bill Nighy`s parody of this is funny in the film "Love Actually."
Huge back late 80's and early 90's. They were from Scotland. The band name Wet Wet Wet came from the lyrics to a song that included a line about "wet, wet, wet tears".
The band were big fans of Scritti Politti. The lyric you quote comes from their song "Gettin' Havin' and Holdin'" on the 1982 album SONGS TO REMEMBER
The version from the Love Actually film is my fave sung by Bill Nighy playing the Billy Mack character and they changed it to Christmas Is All Around 😊
This is a cover. Originally done by The Troggs.
Lads from Glasgow - UKs home of 80s blue eyed soul - aztec camera, hue and cry, deacon blue, Texas and way more.

Thanks for that. Now, I don't have to research to find out who sang it first!
The film stands up well if you like romcoms, Britt 🎉
Wow The TROGGS cover. I love this song

The ideal wedding song ❤ Thanks, Britt 😉🎶
Welcome 🤗
Wet Wet Wet's version stayed at number 1 on the UK top 40 for 15 weeks in 1994 the band asked the record label to stop releasing it
I always loved "Angel Eyes" by them. Fantastic

Wow I didn’t know this !
Another Scottish band you should check out is Texas and start with "I Don't want A Lover"....

REG PRESLEY LEAD SINGER IN THE YTOGGD 1966 WROTE THIS SONG IN 10 MINUTES, THERE VERSION IS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT
Reg was asked in an interview what substances he was on when writing this magical song. His answer was that it was written whilst drinking a cup of tea in his mum's front room.

I don’t.
No comparison to the original by The Troggs. This version is almost too cute.
Be lovely if after reaction you look up the song , add more to your enthusiasm for the song ,
They are Scottish
They're Scottish
New here cool content
Scottish
Do Sweet Surrender, it is better than this by far IMO.
A first rate cover, although I prefer The Trogg's original. Why, indeed, would a boy band, targeting young girls, call themselves wet wet wet? No comment.
NOPE! BRITISH!
The best reactors don't make it about them, far to irritating to be original.
