I made apple cider & pear cider last year, both were delicious, I used 10kg of apples and made 5lt of cider, I used apple cider yeast, fermentation was complete after 8 weeks, had 12%abv
Fun facts, cider is always made from apples. If it is made from pears it is called perry ^^ Also in UK english, cider always refer to the drink that have alcohol in it. Where as in US english this is called hard cider. So what you made here is called hard cider in the US, but cider in UK (and the rest of EU) :)
That's true. But also here in the U.S. you can just say "cider", and based on the context people will usually understand whether you mean "hard cider" or "fresh cider" (fresh apple juice crushed by hand in a wooden bucket press).

Hi, you'll get more juice if mash or even grate the apples first before pressing. Me personally I just use a juicer then pass it through a fine cheese clothe. I get about 75 to 80 percent juice by weight of the apples. You could easily get 6 liters of juice from the apples you used,
Andrea, what a coincidence! Just before I saw this video I bottled my own cider. I used four liters of natural juice and champagne yeast. It took two weeks to ferment and should be 3% alcohol. Great video as always! Stay safe.
Superb Chris, the difference (in speed and taste is the natural in Andreas case) yeast you used , don’t be shy add a kilo of sugar for more kick. Keep enjoying. But drink with moderation… 😜👍🍸🍾🥂

Hello from CFS! We are currently working on our 14th batch of cider at home and we appreciate you sharing your experience. Are you always using a natural fermentation and not introducing a yeast? Also, we never thought to use the hydrometer holder as a cylinder to pour your test liquid into….that saves so much juice!!! Best, David and Rachel
Hi, thank you for this. I followed this recipe and the batch is currently fermenting. I used a kitchen aid tool to chop the apples into smaller pieces and got about 4l of apple juice from 5 kgs of apples. I however removed the center part from the apples. Winter is coming to Finland so not sure when this batch will be done.
Very detailed and helpful explanations to get the best results. Just like to point out that at 0.36 you show 5 kg of yellow apples and 5 kg of red in the text. But only one kilo of red in the audio. I guess the audio says the right measure going by the number of red apples on the kitchen counter.
Hi, Andrea! Thank for recipe! Now i have good apples from the garden, but I don't have enough time to manage the process. Can I make the juce by jucer machine and freeze it? Any idea if natural east will be alive after defrosting? If not, can I take few apples from the garden (different type) and put them (chopped or whole) inside fermentator with juce to strart the process? What do you think it will work? Thank you in advance.
I made perry using more or less this technique last autumn, and the result was very good. Two things I did differently, though: -Pasteurized the must, then added pectinase to reduce haziness (may increase methanol; be careful) -Added new yeast ('Brand X' wine yeast in first half of the batch, and a raspberry leaf bearing wild yeast from outdoors for the second) Next time I might use wild yeast for the whole batch, or just skip the pasteurization entirely. I intend to make my own press for next time rather than ever trying to wring a gallon of juice from fruit again, because frankly that will take less time and effort to build than to do without.
Also, some people seem to be allergic to store-bought yeast! Just like some people are allergic to American pasteurized milk. Mostly because of the pasteurization and perhaps the type of cow.

Are you shaking or mixing the contents of the first fermentation every day? If yes, for all 40+ days or only until fermentation begins (2-4 days)? Thanks!
Hello from Denmark. Hard cider looks delicious - thank you for showing!!! If I use 10 kg apples, do I just double the sugar = 400 grams? 20 kg apples = 800 grams? And so on?
Hello again! So I made two batches. One turned really sour, so airlock probably not sealed right, the other better but still a little bit on the sour side, but I think thats more to do with the apples I used. But it made me wonder - how would you describe the taste? Should it be sweet? A little acidic? Balanced? I never tasted hard cider before trying this, so I have nothing to compare with. 😊🌟🥂 It was fun to make. 7 litres. Thank you so much!!
Can I substitute the sugar for honey? And after the 10 days in the second fermentation, should I put them in a cool place to stop the fermentation or will that naturally happen when there is no more sugar?
Thank you so much for the clear instructions and superb video! I’m wondering if you have to have a fermenter with an airlock, or if there is a way that I can do this recipe at home without one? Good work bro....Will the fermentation in the bottle continue after 2 weeks? how will the taste and alchohol level not increase after testing the wing from bottle?
what if you put the chopped apples into a strong ziplock bag, and break with with a rolling pin? when the apples are smashed, you just cut a small hole on the plastic bag and the juice just dripping out? A couple of years ago I made it with red current - by accident. Just forgot a bottle of diluted, sugar sweetened red current juice in the fridge. When a couple of weeks later I wanted to free some space, opened it. Too bad that immediately the so-believed syrup sprinkled out, covering my face, the wall, the ceiling, practically the whole kitchen. The glassful of red current juice remained in the bottle was the best sparkling wine I've ever tasted, including some high rated champagne.

@@Spectacular-cuoredicioccolato So, today marks exactly 2 weeks since I started fermentation, and it seems to be finished. Dear Andrea, thanks for the great video. I noticed that you used the natural yeast from the apples only. So i was wondering if it is necessary to use cold pressed apple juice so that it contains natural yeast? I make many liters of apple juice every year, but it is hot pressed. Is the natural yeast still in the apple juice after hot pressing the apples? Or do I need to add additional yeast to get this tasty cider. Thanks and keep up with your nice videos 😊 Greetings from germany, Aaron

Please, can I use some yeast from a previous ginger beer that I made to accelerate the fermentation process because it's winter where I live and the maximum temperature is around 19/20 degrees Celsius, thanks and can't wait to try more fermentations from your channel!
Awesome video, I love your channel. I have a question about F2 (2nd fermentation): Did you burp your bottles during F2? 10 days is a long time, I'm afraid they'll explode! @ytkliplerim ok 👍🏼
Thanks and keep up with your nice videos 😊
Greetings from germany, Aaron
Which temperature do you reach?
@@Spectacular-cuoredicioccolato
I think it will reach about 80° celsius
@aaronpopp9481 ok 👍🏼 after you should add wine yeast
Ok thank you👍
😉🍷
You are a genius.
😂👍🏼 thanks
😂👍🏼🥳🍷
Thanks for great videos , can you explain the gravity test and alcohol calc
I show it at the end of the video 😉
Can i use readymade apple juice and add the yeast starter from the homemade yeast video
Also can i make it clear with bentonite clay?
Probably yes 👍🏼
I never used bentonite clay
@@Spectacular-cuoredicioccolato ok thanks for the reply

Hi,what kind of yeast did you use to induce fermentation?
And how much ?
The yeast is already on the apples 😉 wild yeast
Andrea, did you add yeast or just the natural yeast on the apples?
Just natural yeast from the apples 🍏
It can be vodka or it has to be specifically rum?
Vodka it’s perfect 👍🏼
Where can I buy that fermenter you used to make hard apple cider? It is pretty and practical.
I made it ua-cam.com/video/myqXQv31CWI/v-deo.html
But you can buy this one BEER KIT : amzn.to/3f5KX47
Hello! First thank you so much for the effort making these amazing videos!
Please, can I use some yeast from a previous ginger beer that I made to accelerate the fermentation process because it's winter where I live and the maximum temperature is around 19/20 degrees Celsius, thanks and can't wait to try more fermentations from your channel!
Yes 👍🏼 but a small quantity
Thanks for your support 🤗
@@Spectacular-cuoredicioccolato Oh Thanks, my pleasure!
How long does this last once bottled? Ie shelf life in the cupboard and in the fridge?
Cupboard 👍🏼 1 year
Awesome video, I love your channel. I have a question about F2 (2nd fermentation): Did you burp your bottles during F2? 10 days is a long time, I'm afraid they'll explode! I make kombucha and I only let my grolsch bottles sit on the counter for 3 days during F2, before cold crashing in the fridge. Thanks, I will definitely try this recipe :-)
If you follow all the steps you will have not problems. I keep the bottles close but add not more then 8 g of sugar per liter, if the bottles is 500 ml only 4 g of sugar 😉👍🏼
Excellent Presentation Lil Bro!😍You aRe an amaZinG teaCher and I learnt so much from you today!👍I appreciated learninG how to figure out how to calculate the alcohol percentage as I just picked a Wine Hydrometer a lil while ago and needed help learninG how to uSe it!👍Shine On Sweet Soul and HaVe a Blessed LiFe!✌🤓🙏😇🌎🌍🌏🌹🌞🌹🍷🍷🍷🌹🍂🍁👻🎃👻🍁🍂P.S...I like to drink a glass of wine when my Arthritis Flares up as it takes the edge off of my pain!👍

Can you make video about recognition damage or poisonus wine or mistake to prevent of wine brewing, please.
What kind of poisonous ☠️ wine?
i love hard apple cider and this recipe was easy enough for even me to follow!
🥳🍾👍🏼 spectacular 🤩
5:44 all the night was doing du du du du du du 😂😂😂
😂
Did you pasteurize or just calculate the time and sugar you added at the end?
Just calculate the sugar
So you do not add any yeast?
Natural fermentation only?
Yes 👍🏼 but if you have wine yeast , you can use it
you can always cold crash it in the ice box/refrigerator whatever you call it in your area. Then bottle it, that way everything will drop out of it. nothing but wine will go in your final bottle.
Thanks for the advice 👍🏼🍾
Very very very spectacular 👍😊
🥳🥳🥳🥳 thanks
Can we blend it and extract the juice?
It will be difficult to filter
Can you put a wood with fermentation ?
Better after
I always put some dry ice into container to prevent apple juice oxidise and turn too brown. But I see its not necessary....
👍🏼😉🍷
What is the different between apple wine and hard apple cider? Apple wine uses yeast, apples and maybe a little sugar and an energizer.
Probably they’re the same
@@Spectacular-cuoredicioccolato apple juice has no skins unlike apple cider.
@mountainben88 👍🏼
Greetings from Serbia, we later distill that and make rakija xD
But i wanted to see cider cause i love somersby so much
Thanks!
Now you can make both 😉 distill the leftover after the wine 🍷
should the final 2 weeks be in the fridge or outside? I am in the final process. Still to dark.
Outside 👍🏼
Very impressive. Even though your accent is somewhat strong, I understood you better because you just talk about the specifics. I love Italian food, and Italian women are the best. I’ve had four Italian girlfriends in my life. Oh my God. But only one of them cooked. Oh well. Thank you for your time. Ciao.
😂 thanks
Spectacular! 👋👋👋👋
🥳🥳🥳🥳🤪🍏🍷🍎 thanks buddy
What is the expected shelf life of this cider? Is there any tips on how to make it last longer?
Usually 1 year
When do we exactly refrigerate it?
Before drinking it
My Grandfather made cider on his Dorset farm. It was normal between the wars. Sometimes they'd find bones in the vats after draining. Rats on the beams above overcome by the fumes.
😱🍾
@@Spectacular-cuoredicioccolatoThat's proper cider. Some would put a joint of meat in to give the cider something to work on. [Kills all known germs, like drain cleaner], post-mortem doctors said cider alkys were lovely and clean inside when opened up for inspection.
Thanks for the information 👍🏼
Thank you. 👍😋
