Hiroshi Kamiya is so sharp. The title “humanity’s strongest” really is more of a burden than an honorary title to Levi. Remember the first scene we ever saw Levi, when people were kinda glorifying him by saying he is as strong as an entire brigade. Levi’s answer was “won’t they shut up already”. Are you a hero?” Which was bullseye. Levi felt great responsibility towards humankind. Coming alive out of every battle when so many died in front of him made Levi feel more indebted to humanity the more time passed. It almost seemed like Levi was carrying around thousands of dead bodies of late comrades upon his shoulders. And when he failed to kill the beast titan after 100 soldiers, including Erwin, gave up their their lives for him in order to achieve that single goal that nobody else could, that burden became more unbearable than ever and from that point on, Levi looked more downhearted and cheerless than ever. Love to hear the VA speak on this. It’s easy for us fans to get wrapped up in the “coolness” of Levi, and completely miss his character complex. “Humanity’s strongest” has always been a title with burdens. But I enjoy that Levi sorta acknowledges it by responding to Zeke’s stab at his pride. Levi knows he is something great to his comrades. Still, that’s his choice to be the top guy, and it’s causing him a great deal of hurt this final season. Especially with his promise to Erwin being unfulfilled, he feels a very personal responsibility to be THE ONE to kill Zeke.
I was so taken back by the “Nah I was plenty popular once.” line too like OK LEVI YOU JUST HAD TO SAY THAT TO PROVE ZEKE WRONG. But the more I thought about it, it’s another Isayama-ism gag. Hahaha
I have had the same feeling for this title that he is called throughout the show. When he is introduced, definitely u would want to see more of his side n his thoughts, actions n all but after viewing a lot of his scenes n moments, It seems this title is very desperate to him. I mean when people call him "humanity's strongest soldier", at the deepest he must be like "tch, y'all can't even imagine how many comrades i have lost" or "u don't even know what i have seen" that's y he said "shut up" when he heard people calling him that in the first scene. It feels like he is responsible for each n every person in the walls, that's how extremely strong he is both mentally n physically but the side effects r worse. Like not being able to have a good sleep is really the worst. I heard from the facts that he only sleeps 2-3 hours without changing his clothes n sleeps in sitting position only, imagine after all he goes through in a day, what he goes through is pretty rough n after that sleep is his big enemy, it must be annoying. Glad that he got good sleep when he got injured though, he was able to sleep soundly. And also sometimes he must be feeling too tired, like in the very deepest of his heart he must feel to kill himself but that urge doesn't come up on the base die, not when he has not completed his wish to Erwin. It always reminds me of how days were when he was with his squad Isabel n Furlan, n definitely his official squad as leader, Levi squad, oluo, Petra, Mike, everyone. Yeah definitely, hange n Erwin are very close to him it must really make him mad inside.
I have to disagree a bit with Kamiya-san. We watched Levi grow and change, but it was not talked about as often because the fandom is busy psychoanalyzing other more deep characters and because Levi's fans are almost all into him for being a badass only and that's enough for them to call it a day. He's handsome, he's charismatic, and he's the most feared soldier (so cool!). But we actually watched Levi grow from a nobody, an illegitimate child who was kept in secret and raised in poverty, to an antisocial thief, to a devoted soldier. Levi essentially did not care about humanity, he only cared about surviving with his friends. He wanted to kill Erwin for threatening him and taking advantage of his situation, he hated the corps and thought they were silly. Levi had always been ordered around by Erwin, he essentially fought as an obligation or to avenge, we slowly saw him warming up to others after meeting Petra's squad ("Petra also talked about how he was so antisocial at first"), and then we saw him again with the present scout kids, and he was starting to be devoted to humanity for the sake of doing good, a good proof of that was when he discovered the identity of the Titans he's been slicing ("so you're telling me.. I've been killing humans all along?") he was devastated to realize that even when he thought he's doing good, he was still the same antisocial kid who used to steal and kill humans for survival. When you see the scouts hanging out together, you can always see Levi alone thinking and reflecting on himself. Levi grows, but silently. About popularity in AoT vs reality: True, he was only loved for fulfilling a role, people always expected something from him. But among AoT fandom, he's loved for his character, which I'm glad because he's trying to be a good person but that needs to come from him wanting to not to earn people's love. Of course, there's Kenny and his mom, they loved him unconditionally, but it was a family love, he's a lifelong canonly a virgin who never fell in love with anyone (nobody deserves him anyways). Sorry for any typing error, I'm Japanese and still learning.
Kamiya understands Levi so well and has a very valid critique about the character that even Isayama would like to hear.

Haha I loved that moment though, I thought he was telling the truth but maybe he wasn't and it was a sore spot like how Kamiya was wondering
Please keep those coming, your work is impeccable in translating them.
Kamiya truly understand Levi
Woaah as expected of Kamiyan, he speak up about Levi so well

Finally!! New content about Levi and Kamiya-san!
kamiya-san saved me… he did all of the therapy isayama-sensei couldn’t do
0:10 For myself :)
0:11 Levi was aware that his fangirls left him for Eren.
I love both
I don't like that Levi's character moments were cut from the Uprising arc anime.
ah it's kamiya-san . . .
Zeke made levi's troop a titan and levi was forced to kill them. Why won't you kill zeke, levi.
Well Kamiya Hiroshi is right levi have don't character development in season 4 lol
He doesn't need one
The way he breaks levi character development from S1...i guess seiyuu's can be one of the best critiques for any mangaka

@@DenpaHeidanSubs ah thank you so much, hope youll upload more content for us who doesnt understand japanese whatsoever, keep it up!
Does anyone know the name of this event please?
Also thank you so much for the translation!
