@Ryan M that’s awesome. it’s a great camera. glad it helped. thanks!
No lie my grandpa's gear has 100k miles on it so I got something in nicer shape to keep with the same gear
a tip for someone! when i first got mine when you want to take out the film look on the bottom and press the button that is in a little divit in it and it should click in and not come out then grab the wheel you use to advance the film and turn it counterclockwise after doing that for a good bit you should hear a click then it should be all rolled up!
thank you for sharing!
Thank you for this!
@Cole Howerton hi Cole, glad this helps! thanks

Just got mine today getting film tomorrow been 20 sum yes since I used film
@Mike Hrenak that’s awesome! sure brings back a lot of memories. have fun
Do I need to put the battery in on our to use it??
You only need a battery to use with the camera exposure meter. Its a mechanical camera so it would still work and take pictures without a battery if you are using the sunny 16 rule. Here is a link that would help ua-cam.com/video/r0taSqzrP_c/v-deo.html
hey so when i advance the film, the dial on the left doesn't turn, what does this mean?
@sade. hey there, this signifies that the film may not be fully intact with the film spool where you advance the film or another possibility that your film roll is finished. I recommend testing your camera first with a test film roll to ensure your film spool is fully functional to avoid wasting new film rolls. Hope this helps.
Hi there. I just inherited my mother's SRT SC-II from Sears in 1980. I followed your steps, but when your rewind button stepped forward after cranking the film-advance lever automatically, (at 1:14 you explained this) mine does not move it forward, it stays in place. When the film was loaded, the lever was definitely moving film forward, and onto the teeth, no problem. My exposure counter will still advance forward as well, but it makes me nervous.
@Jordan R hey thanks for dropping by. Your film might not be secured in the rewind spool slot which causes it not to move while advancing the film. I would try to advance the film then fire the shutter and then advance again to see if its pulling the spool. If that didn’t work, your film isn’t secured in the rewind spool. Good luck
@@RomeOpalec thanks for the reply. Is it safe to open the film door with only a couple of levers turned to check? Or will it ruin the whole role?
@@87_North it may exposed part of your loaded film inside. i recommend opening it in the less light room away from direct light to work on it. since the only exposed part is the beginning of the film, you can use that part of the film to re-spool your film. hope this works
@@RomeOpalec thanks! I'm actually running into the common issue where when you snap a photo, the viewfinder stays black, and does not reopen until you adjust the lever for the next slide. I'm just going to bring the camera into a repair shop to get cleaned.
@@87_North you bet! i also recommend using a used film to practice loading and unloading that way it would help for future new film load. good luck and hope you take a lot of good pictures. these cameras have a long run
Hi im abit confuse here. when the counter meter shows 1, that means i already took 1 picture or im about to take the first picture?
Hello, yes it means you’re about to take your first picture on 1. Another tip I want to add, most folks essentially would intentionally go over the 1 or 2 counter meter to ensure the film is in good contact with the film spool. Personally, I like to get the most out of my film roll so I preferably want to start on 1 counter meter.
@@RomeOpalec Ohhh i see. My MINOLTA SRT101 just arrived today and im so excited to use it tomorrow. Thanks for your advice sir!
@@aznieraazman6767 Enjoy! That’s a great camera for sure
I want to get one but I’m scared to get scammed
I recommend shopping for “film tested” 201 and 101 cameras. These cameras were built like tanks more than likely you will find one that is still functional. Also I would research and review the seller ratings to be sure. Good luck
@@RomeOpalec hey mines still functional I have a MINOLTA SRT201 with the old film still inside and a photoflex mx-35 that looks brand new

Hey, I’ve been using this camera for a while with no issues until recently. Sometimes when I snap a shot it seems that the shutter closes and doesn’t open back up. The viewfinder goes dark when this happens. It doesn’t open back up until I advance the film. Just finished a roll with it shooting like this. I’m not sure if any of those shots were exposed because of this problem. Any idea why this is happening?
@Jonathan Mauldin hi, it sounds like the mirror locked up on you. Did you try to push the button located underneath the lever timer? Sometimes it does lock up and causes the mirror to flip in close position.
@@RomeOpalec haven’t tried that, thanks! Do you think that when this happens my images are still being exposed properly?
@@jonathanmauldin8801 it should, the mirror still opens each time you fire the shutter. I hope there was no issue when you finished your roll but only way to find out is to develop them of course. Let me know, I also like to learn this. Good luck!
@Mike Zielinski Thanks Mike for the additional input. It does sound like the shutter needs an overhaul. These SRT cameras very worth fixing. Luckily mine was just the mirror being stuck. I would be more than happy replacing it in the future which technically will make it almost brand new. Hope to share some of the photos I took from my SRT 201 in my channel soon!
Hi, new 201 owner here. How do I find out if I have a Model A or B? And also how did you solve the mercury battery?
Please answer this
Hey, sorry for the late reply. I believe you are referring to the SR series which model A is cut down version of SR-2 then model B is cut down version of SR-3 which they added a light meter. Unfortunately they don’t make mercury batteries, a PX625A should have the equivalent voltage. Hope this helps
pg hi, sorry for the delay. I posted a reply just now
