  • You might be damaging your electric skateboard's lithium ion battery and not even know it! Have you left your eskate sit fully charged or near empty for a while? Have you kept it in a hot car in the middle of summer? Have you charged it when the battery was frozen? If so--you've been hurting your poor esk8 battery!

    Solid tips!

    It's my experience that being miles from home and getting caught in a passing shower with a seventeen pound board is the most common cause of battery destruction . Sometimes ya just gotta keep riding the storm out . ( 2,500 miles = 3 batteries so far )

      That's outright catastrophic failure lol. I'm talking about degradation

      @@MikeInTheWoods This newest battery got damp too, from riding on some wet trails. I even sprayed the under side of the board with flex seal when I put it in. Moisture still got in. It still works ... the degradation will begin soon though. I wish they had a water proof design.

    I'd also like to add that if you have to keep your batteries fully charged or fully discharged overnight or for any length of time, freezing them does seem to help prolong cell health as battery university indicates. The chemical reactions in the cells will slow down the colder it gets, just like you would expect from any chemical reaction, and your cell health will be preserved a bit longer. Just give it time to recover when you put it into use again, as MikeInTheWoods points out.

      sounds dangerous

      @@user-qm5ll9vf4b freezing batteries? No it's not. If you took it out of the freezer and charged it, that would be bad for its health, but even then, not dangerous, just wasteful.

    What about liquid? My rc batteries never had a problem with water but the li ion pack in my eskate side within 6 months possible from using it in the rain.

    I have a 10s1P that’s been sitting in my closet. Would I be able to splice to a 10s2p? Both battery are Molicel P42A 21700 36V.

      if its the same voltage as ur charger than its alright its just will your new battery fit your skateboard

    If you follow the logic that using your battery when it is below 0C is bad, wouldn't it be catastrophic to use your PEV, mainly an electric skateboard, at all when it is cold?
    This would be due to the regen braking, so you would be ruining your battery every time you hit the brakes when the ambient temperature is below 0 C.

    • @MikeInTheWoods
      @MikeInTheWoods  Рік тому

      I didn't say "using," I said "charging". And yes, when the battery is cold, EVs like Teslas don't allow regen for this exact reason

      @@MikeInTheWoods Would you recommend using the brakes and therefore charging the battery on an electric skateboard when the outdoor temperature is below 0C?
      I am just genuinely asking because there is not a lot of information on it.

    • @MikeInTheWoods
      @MikeInTheWoods  Рік тому

      Well, one could say that you sorta need brakes. It's probably causing a little bit of damage, but the amount put in from regen brakes isn't that much, so I don't imagine it's amounting to a heck of a lot. But good point pointing out the regen!

    You mean to tell, that I should always charge my battery to only 80 of less % of the max capacity?
    This is such bs, that's worse than being told, "sir, you brand new mercedes is limited to 160mph". "why, is the motor no strong enough?". "no sir, its for the car's safety"...
    Then why do batteries even allow to be charged to 100%, why not only accept charge to only 80% and call it "100% of charge"...

      That reminds me of Spinal Tap - "Why not have it go to ten ? ... ten being the loudest." " This amplifier goes to eleven . "
