    Trent Richardson left his mark in the NFL by single handedly ruining the draft value of the running back position. Because of him people thought that there is no point in wasting a high draft pick on a running back until Ezekiel Eliott came around.

    • @kannon0216
      @kannon0216 5 років тому +19

      @Eric0816 You're so wrong. What about backs like Knowshon Moreno, CJ Spiller, Ryan Matthews who all came before him? The league was heading that way to begin with. Trent had a good rookie season and the next year, not one Back was taken in the first round. Yet in 2013, Eddie Lacy, Le'Veon, Latavius Murray were all taken outside of the first round. I could argue those talents showed it was worth waiting because you could get better backs in later rounds. Hell, the year Trent started his decline, Devonta Freeman came out in the 4th. So you're wrong. Trent didn't ruin the draft value. People like Le'Veon, Kareem Hunt, and Alvin Kamara helped push that needle. Trent didn't stop the Rams from taking Gurley, or the Chargers from taking Melvin Gordon. You just don't know what you're talking about.

    I can relate to Trent in a sense. I spent 8 years of my life in the Marine Corp. During that 8 years you could see every muscle in my body. I was lean and ripped. It wasn’t hard to do because the Marine Corp is a very structured place. I had no choice but to maintain that lifestyle. When I left the Marine Corp, all of that structure was replaced with “I need to work out, but I think I will do it tomorrow”. One day turned into a week. Then that turned into a month and next thing you know I was rocking a dad bod. All because I didn’t have that structure I was accustomed to. That said, I’ve seen the way coach Saban runs his program. It is so structured in every way you can fathom in order to help these guys succeed. I think Trent thrives in that kind of environment. Then when he got to the NFL, all that structure is gone and it’s on each individual player to maintain their weight and skills. After having all that structure, it is unbelievably easy to put off what you need to do. You combine that with all the vultures that surrounded his money and absolutely took advantage of him, I’m not surprised he failed. Watch this mans college tape. He was tremendous! It’s not like he Magically lost all his ability. I mean he was dominating the best conference in college football. Put all that together and he didn’t have a chance and that’s sad. Trent is an admirable man and was a beast of a football player in Tuscaloosa. Everyone talking shit are talking it on a great great kind man.

    As a life long Alabama fan this was enlightening. Trent R. was one of the most physical backs I've ever seen.. period. 99% of my memories of his game was at Alabama in Div I college football.
    His 'lack' of vision is the only reason he didn't make it in the NFL right now. I would hope he would find the BEST RB coach who specializes in building vision and work as much as humanely possible with that guy. Go on to dominate the CFL and have his people pushing NFL teams to give him a shot to show how he CAN see holes now. Can he? I have no idea.. but that's where I would work as it is his only weakness.
    He was able to dominate in College (and prior) because he was so physical he could run over guys.. and get ENOUGH space to work with even with poor vision.. then in the open field he can make people miss.
    If you've ever played the position of RB in your life on any level.. your natural instinct is to run as fast as possible North/South -- When you need patience to sit behind that line.. let blocks develop and develop what a nice hole just STARTING to develop looks like -- as that is when you need to start hitting said 'hole'. Basically it's a lot harder than it looks.

    UPDATE: For anyone just coming across this in 2019 here's a little update.
    Trent found some success in the CFL in 2017 in his four game stint (5.4 ypc, which by CFL standards is pretty good but not necessarily elite). He got hurt before the playoffs and missed them. Shame. On to next season, right?
    Unfortunately, Trent was unable to return to the CFL because apparently had he crossed the border he would have lost custody of his children (I don't have the details on that) so Saskatchewan released him so he could play in the AAF and keep his kids.
    He averaged under 3 ypc in the AAF, though he had 11 TD's, and then the league folded... Didn't see anything on his 2019 season in any league.

    Me and Trent grew up together. One most humble dudes ever. He messed his ankle up real bad when we were freshman in high school then hurt his knee junior year. It’s escambia coach fault. He ran Trent into the ground before he had even made it to bama. Had Trent never got hurt in high school he be one the best in the league today

    Overall Trent Richardson made a valiant effort while playing the game he loved. I watched him grow up and had the pleasure of coaching him as a youngster in the Gulf Coast Youth Football League in Pensacola, FL. He was always humble, respectful, committed, and determined. Please let's not consider him a failure because the real game is life, not football. Even still, today he runs the TR3 Youth Sports Alliance in Birmingham, AL, and does speaking engagements across the country. His net worth is still in the M's and he's worth more today than most will achieve in a lifetime. God bless Trent.

    I'm reminded of a story one of the political cats on UA-cam tells. About a dude selling live crabs down at the docks. But the container didn't have a lid on it . When asked about why it didn't. he said. "don't need one. soon as one gets close the others see it and try to hitch a ride, grab onto it and drag it back down.

The people he got close to him tightened up tho and we all hope to see him shine again. The NFL used him up too they ain't no better, if they was all that concerned about his off field complications as much as his numbers on field... Well u know. He still has his day coming. Go Trent. We had Trent here in the CFL playing for my Saskatchewan Roughriders,but he was only getting 2 or 4 yards on first down and in the CFL you have to have a ave of 5+ yards.I was hoping once he got the playbook down he would find his game.some former NFL players coming up to Canada they just can't adjust,it must be the money,bigger field or faster game we play(20 sec game clock).the players that stay are the ones that played one season in the NFL or were on the practice squad and are playing in CFL because they love game or are hoping to make it back to the show(NFL)

I found your channel and listen to a variety of commentaries about politics, religion, philosophy, and cars. Now I am adding sports. In comparison your writing or narration blends excellently facts, hyperbole, and opinion, as well as any big name commentators. I pray you have continued success on your Channel and the great research that you have so obviously done. BTW. I am a very critical person and do not give many accolades like this. If you are not already I suggest you pursue some type of career in creative writing. or communications.

But injuries plagued him throughout his career at Oregon and eventually caused him to retire from football. It's a sad story because he was gonna be great.
