I'd say more like the knights of old or the Warhammer equivalent - Adeptus Astartes, also known as Space Marines. They arrive when shit gets real and save the day - or they don't. Either way, less soldiers and more super-specops. They generally don't face the same bullshit ordinary soldiers do, like the idiots within the chain of command and the bane of paperwork. Not to mention digging in and being shelled for weeks on end. It ain't fun.
There's also months of sitting around, holding checkpoints and doing patrols on high alert and only one or two things happen. Most of the time a soldier's life is boring. Most times when that's not the case, we wish it was boring at that particular time.
That, and the whole aura thing, where their friends generally don't go down to a single piece of shrapnel to the neck.
Aaaand I've gone on another rant. Darn!
