  • Have you got problems with your neighbour? Need some advice on what you can do if you have nightmare neighbours who are really noisy and troublesome?
In this video, we share Phil Spencer's advice on the steps you need to follow to resolve disputes with your neighbours or how to make a complaint about your neighbour.
➤WHEN DO YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT A NEIGHBOUR?
If a neighbour's security light shines directly into your house, this is a type of statutory nuisance, as is lighting bonfires in non-permitted locations or at inconsiderate times during the day.
Having your privacy invaded by security cameras is another cause for concern. Any neighbouring dogs barking into the early hours or using your garden could also be seen as good grounds for complaints.
➤WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOUR NEIGHBOUR HAS BECOME A NUISANCE?
The first step is to always try and talk to them, don't be confrontational or argumentative. Calmly explain how the problem is affecting you and try to offer a solution.
If this doesn't work and you want to take things further, keep a record of the problems noting when and where the incidences occurred and for how long.
➤STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH YOUR NEIGHBOUR?
If the problem still hasn't been resolved by this point, you could consider using mediation. This is a service that provides an impartial mediator who can deal with your problem without bias. There are costs involved, but it's less expensive than taking legal action. Your local council or housing association should be able to refer you to a mediation provider.
Legal action should always be a last resort as it can be a time consuming and costly process, although you can seek free legal advice from an advice centre.

I can tell you what you should absolutely never do in this situation. Don't ever complain about the noise to your neighbour. If they don't realise they're annoying in the first place, chances are you're dealing with a very low IQ person. If you do decide to confront them (even politely), the situation will become much much worse than it is now- they'll take advantage of it and feel like they have power over your life now. Police won't do anything about it so don't even bother calling them. Anything you do to try to stop this must be done so that you don't reveal your frustration to anyone (that includes other neighbours)- this is the most important thing you need to remember. This gives you much more room to be sneaky with your actions. Try to gather as much intel on the fucker as you can and work with it.

@@misterzee5736 don't know your specific situation but try to get him kicked out based on something else than noise. Any shady activity you're noticing? You can report it anonymously. Any domestic violence- you could interpret the noise coming from your neighbours house in many ways you know. Keep reporting them anonymously until they finally put 2 and 2 together? Don't just simply report the noise because nobody will do anything about it- you need to be more creative when nobody is on your side. You can also become an asshole yourself and make their life harder in one way or another (doesn't necessarily have to be noise). Main take away is that you don't reveal your frustration about the noise or your identity to the ones you're in direct contact with aka your neighbours. These people crave for any little bit of power they can get in their miserable lives.Just look around you and figure it out.

We bought a house from people who hid the noisy neighbours from us during sale, we found out about the complaints and we are now going through the process of legal action. As for the neighbours, they're ignorant and refuse to speak to us. It's overcrowded most of the week and they bang on anything and everything they touch. It's like they're all possessed lunatics. We moved in to start a family but now our lives are put on hold indefinitely.
It's sickening how victims are treated by the local authorities. Some laws need to change because even "standard living" noise that is so continuous has detrimental and long lasting effects on a person(s) mental state and well being.. especially during unsocial hours.
"Just put up with it" is not the answer.

Her first piece of advice here is absolutely the worst thing you can do and will escalate further. People playing loud music regularly are 1) Low IQ people 2) Wanting attention/ displaying alpha tendencies 3) Doing it to annoy/trigger a conflict. There are very small % decent people unknowingly playing loud music at unsociable hours - and in those very rare cases yes it may help. However 99.9% you will be dealing with someone of a different species and living in a different world. Politely asking will only trigger them, escalate and mean you're entered their world. They will know it annoys you and increase the volume and frequency. You will be on their radar and these are not normal people - these are people with huge underlying issues and who relish making other peoples lives as miserable and conflicted as their own. Your options are 1) Put up with it and manage - sound proof as much as you much. 2) Just sell up/move. 3) Report to police, Local Authority, Social Housing Association (it is often Social housing tenants) - this approach will take years and you may get a result but you will live in conflict and stress for that entire time. It is an utterly horrendous situation to be in and UK laws are not on the side of the decent people wanting to just get on. Sadly it is, what it is but trying to reason with people like this and express your perspective - will just make it worse. Do not enter their world. Ignore or move.

so they we protect people who are violent and noisy especially if they claim mental health, they won't be moved

Currently staying in hotels, my situation got so bad I had to leave. This is an unemployed single mother would not leave me alone ever and dedicated all her time to stalking and terrorising me. Our houses are adjoined and the walls are basically cardboard cut-outs. This is someone who'd never leave the house, she would have these angry outbursts everyday which always sounded as if she was smashing furniture up, this would go on at least 8/9 times a day, it was hell. she'd deliberately wake me up 4/5 times a night, it was continuous opening and slamming the front door at 4/5am, the microwave, wash spin and tumble dryer on together from 11pm-4am sending vibrations through the house, knocking on walls loudly, switching on hand-drills.
I tried reporting her, ear plugs, ear defenders, talking to her, getting advice, white noise machines, nothing was working.
Then she formed an alliance with some of the other narc neighbours, sit outside or park directly outside the house and try to intimidate me. Always go out when I'm about to leave, arrive just when I'm getting back. Following me whenever I'd go out in my car. A few times they have tried to drive into me or break very suddenly in front of me. They tried to Bluetooth connect to all my devices. I tried sleeping in different rooms in the house just to get away from her, each room I slept in she'd just hang around the adjoined area and start banging walls. I had zero privacy, none whatsoever. If I opened my window, she'd open hers, if I did my laundry, she'd do hers, I coloured my hair she'd colour hers.
I work from home and it really started to affect my life very badly to the point I was always drained. I never stops, as soon as I walk into
I'd book hotel rooms, but then they became very costly which lead me to sleep and work inside my car just for some peace.

I'm really sorry for your situation.. that's terrible to be forced out of your home... You might want to consider going to the Police & reporting it... from what you describe sounds like violent stalking behavior they have to take that seriously... Try & get a friend or a family member to accompany you... I know what its like dealing with heavily narcissistic neighbors from hell.. I've got 3 & they do tend to join forces but in my situation they won't target me directly to my face.. its very covert... I've diagnosed all 3 them... the main leaders a Malignant Covert Narc who enjoys engineering smear campaigns... he also pretends to drive to work only to return home (parking his car somewhere else) creeps back into his apartment only to tap & rap on the ceiling , walls & table in order to make me feel like I'm going out of my mind..... he uses the other two as flying monkeys to gather info they can use against me.. but I'm a step ahead... No 2 is the Fat Loud Grandiose Narc that stamps his feet in his apartment late at night because he sleeps all day & shouts all the time & projects his own shortcomings onto others.. No 3 I'm not 100% sure hes a Narc or hes just suffering from a common form of stupidity which is linked to inbreeding.... he likes to play loud music at all hours... These are really not intelligent people and they are emotionally immature, they often have nothing in their lives to occupy their time so their focus tends to be on others rather than on a hobby or am interest... Their main aim is really to cause as much disruption as possible in order to get their supply..... their toxic way of life usually causes them to self destruct in the end...anyway I hope your situation improves...

I have not complained as I don't want to spoil their fun, however the treadmil in the room next to my bedroom is like a constant threat. When I had a cough in March it turned into a throbbing chest and I keep waking up having nightmares about earthquake caused by the treadmil. Me and my partner have literally been abused by incessant loud banging coming from the upstairs rented unit for nearly one year. I had to move out as I was seriously losing it, my boyfriend being the owner had no choice but to stay. We tried absolutely everything, talking to an impossible defensive mother of an impossibly loud special needs child, she on top, extremely anti social (loud sex, music, parties), the child is unbelievably loud all the times (no exaggeration, every other minute a loud and sudden bang or a shout that sounds more like a wolf or ghost rather than human)
We are both suffering now with anxiety and every noise I hear gives me stress and worry, this is not a joke! Noises are affecting our mental health and councils keep saying noises like those are domestic. Because of this, I cannot be the same calm person that I used to be, happy, patient, I would never wish to have a child, nor invest any of my money in any property in London, as they are not constructed for sharing in decent circumstances and authorities do not help you. So you find yourself, instead of an owner with a house, an owner of a massive liability stained by noise complaints which will stop you from enjoying a sale or rent of your house, and you become a noise torture subject. Councils tell you to go legal, which costs a lot of money and even more stress, after all the abuse you have been subjected to anyways. Absolutely ridiculous!!!! After all this, the morale: never buy an apartment in the Uk, especially London, a converted house, maisonette, semi or no houses at all until you know it is property insulated, are somehow informed people around you are decent and preferably homeowners not landlords. Never a downstairs unless you have no choice at all! I hope this will help someone, at least I did something good saving the stress and mental health of another person. 🙏

They discard their household waste outside the front door, scraps of their old furniture and God knows what else underneath the staircase, the place looks like landfill.
They smoke on the landing and it stinks out my whole flat, they have that Shisha pipe thing that makes this loud bubbling sound at all hrs.
They have young children come round from time to time, there isn't a garden so the kids play basketball and football indoors, well that's what it sounds like. They allow the kids to play all day in the flat, till after 11pm at night, they play their Arabic music all hrs. They don't seem to work, I work long days Mon-Fri and have to come home to all this mental torture. I know they don't work because I've been on annual leave and been home, there is always somebody in the flat.
When they moved in, somebody took the lock off the main door, so the door's open for all and sundry to come in and they do! I've been in self isolation the past 3 weeks because of the Covid19, I had quite a heavy cold early Feb and it left me with a cough. I don't have a fever though. When all this is over with the lock down, I'm moving, can't take it anymore, it's really taken a toll on my health and i'm not a young person. I am sorry to hear about your situation, I hope you are ok now? I have ended up writing to my local MPs about my case. sent 4 emails to different MPs. I also had to include NHS mental health and other authorities to build a case. I have had to keep a diary and send them through. They can be a week long to 3 weeks ect. I have also had the doctor involved so that every professional is aware of this causing a mental health break down. I must admit that I have had to practically stalk the council to get my issue dealt with but what I didn't realise was, getting other authorities to email them on my behalf has now had a greater impact! if you have done all you can through the council then there is the Ombudsman who will investigate your neighbour and the council for not acting quicker. They also do compensation payouts too. I will be going to them soon if the council still does nothing, but I was told that I will be getting a phone call from the ASB team. I am also making a list of which Lords to write to as well, I know it is a massive headache, and if you are driven to move then that is so understandable. With me I have lived in my place for almost 20 years. They have lived as my neighbours for less than 3 years! they can move! I'm staying and I am going to fight this until this is properly sorted out. Some people do this because they think other will do nothing about it and it is sad when authorities just can't be arsed! Stalk your housing people, send a diary and emails to them. Keep calling them and you have a right to video record from your property to prove it isn't you then lift your phone up to where the noise is coming from. Then phone 101 and report it and send the video to them. This helped out a person that is helping me with my issue. If you call 101 they will turn up at their address to listen to them. Keep safe and well! These people need to take accountability for their actions but accountbaility always looks like an attack when a person fails to take responsibility for their actions that hurt others!

@@hotrockin197 the problem is is that I have a very nice people living below me. It seems most of the quiet and peaceful people are tagged with noisey neighbours. Sometimes I feel like this is done on purpose by evil spirit to ruin our peaceful nature!!! However, I refused to be broken or mad and change my behaviour, this selfish neighbour taught me to be more patient person on controlling my rage towards him. I inquired my council if they could allow me to bid house after explaining my struggles with the current one, but they rejected me . They said empty houses are only for the homeless people in waiting only only. Personally, its all the same thing and they are not losing a house by allowing me to move in to the empty house, instead exchanging min. the typical Council landlord however, advised me to report my problem to the council who deals with this kind of problem wow!

@Alternative Thoughts dame!! exchange sounds great! but I also feel sorry for those people we exchange, its like we dumping all our problems to them! one time a guy came to see my house and asked me about the neighbours I couldn't tell him that I have a very noisy neighbour, that time I just want to leave this area. The thing is, I don't hate the location but I feel like am driven to get out from the location that has easy access for everything ( I love the area where I live in its a perfect location for me). Before , everything was peaceful then came this interesting neighbour !! The problem is the Council who have the power to sort this out, but chose to ignore it because we are not them.

I've asked my upstairs neighbours to stop their kids constantly stamping on their floor (my ceiling) and all I got was insults, accusations and excuses at 8:10am 3 days in a row, they are actually damaging the plaster work on the ceiling now, the whole flat shakes when they do it, so I had to shout up 'Please stop stamping on my ceiling' so instead of their usual 'Well what do you want me to do about it, they are 2 and 3 years old?' I replied ''Stop them from stamping on the ceiling, the whole house is shaking' , this is all by shouting as I'm not knocking anymore at 8am to be insulted and the door slammed in my face! Now they are screaming I'm a 'Crack-Head' totally on the basis that I've complained about a 3yr olds noise !
The lady above me was in my school, only a few year older than me, so I know she hasn't got mental health issues, unlike myself, and is well educated, so it's very purposely done! A few people have asked if she's normal and do she know how much noise they making ?
Even the neighbours two doors away from them can hear it, he's subtlety mentioned it, but it just went straight over head ?
I'm calling the housing 9am Monday morning, one of us will have to move now !
I'm so run down with 7:30am-11:00am then all day till 7-8pm noise, by 8pm now, I'm getting migraines, where I'm clutching my head in pain, I refuse to sleep, eat and sh*t around other people's pure laziness to watch their kids properly
And they constantly talk about me to local people in shops, neighbours, local pub, my auntie and on social media.
I really hope something gets done, I can't take anymore of this 😒😞😔

There are 2 girls out of control next door who scream for hours every day jumping on a trampoline right outside my kitchen door. My whole house is full of their loud screaming, I have no peace anywhere in my own house. I even changed the windows to triple-glazed but it is still an ordeal. I work from home and I study in the evening and it has been a nightmare putting up with them. They are 10 and 13, which is a bit too old for that kind of "excusable" behaviour. But I cannot expect anything better considering the mother works the system nicely. She has been on social welfare for years pretending not to be fit for work (but she constantly moves very heavy pots, carries dozens of wheelbarrows full of turf from the driveway to the back garden, digs and carries gravel, pressure washes the driveway for 10 hours at a time). She also lives in affordable accommodation, so she lives on taxpayers' money (people like me). She recently said she will report me to the police and to Tusla for harassing her and her kids (I left a note in her post box begging her to control the screaming and I would never be ashamed of what I wrote there, it was the kindest request I could ever write). I feel like we live in a society where vulgar inconsiderate and selfish people are protected and good people suffer. I have not seen my family in 19 months due to the pandemic, but she has play dates and people over constantly despite the severe level 5 lockdown. What can I do? Absolutely nothing.

I’m sorry you are having these issues.
chavs upstairs above me have taken the mic with Lockdown.
Their kids jump and run hard and heavy for long periods of time and our Artex ceiling is cracking. They are linear cracks evenly spaced out suggesting repeated heavy vibrations down the joists.
They have a washing machine that is old and broken down. Vibration from that when in my room 20sq m from their kitchen above it sounds like I have my machine on next to me in my kids room!!!
Now their dryer sounds like it will pop one day.
Asked them nicely last year can you please dial down the noise.
“No! Our kids are doing Joe wicks sessions and we are classed as vulnerable so have to stay indoors”
I said I know but it’s loud and I’m working from home. They were jumping and running from 8:30 am when I logged in for work to about 11:30 am when I went up there and asked them to sort that out.
      There was no apology!
Anti social behaviour came next like smoking near our windows. No fresh air for us! Just cigarette smoke. They breached strict lockdown rules and brought friends over to their flat or to stand outside our kids windows while taking to the chavs upstairs!!For 3 months. Cops did nothing.
They got another neighbour to say we accused them of selling drugs?! Not what is logged in writing with the council!
Mediation failed and they tried to frame us for making noise when they banged our ceiling about 6 times in January this year!
Unfortunately I retaliated by knocking my plastic broom on the ceiling. CHAOS!! I have never sworn so hard at someone in my life but that night I was ready to fight! Wife pulled me away just as they whipped a phone round the stairs!
Cops came and took statements and did nothing.
Recently I have been accused of spraying hair spray on their door and they say another neighbour saw me do it!!!
I’m black with short Afro hair! I don’t need hair spray and more importantly I don’t go spraying hair spray on peoples doors! What do you gain from that?! How did that convince cops to come and quiz me?
Cops came and quizzed me on that while they get away with being utter council tenant trash!
I wish you all luck! Let me know if your MP helps. Other than that we are in a world of pain. Option is to sell and buy another place.
I have to take CBT to help me rebuild my mindfulness practice. I get sick head aches and I get evil thoughts in my head about revenge and permanently stopping all this suffering in a bad way. It’s an unhealthy way to live. Why must I pay thousands in soundproofing?! It won’t change their anti social behaviour and won’t change how they have lied about is to cops and the hood!!! Disgusting sorry excuse for human beings.
Yeah rant over for now. I am f€¥*%g sad 🤣😭🤬🤣😭

These people use their children to get to you. They encourage the children to make all kinds of noise, screaming, bouncing a heavy ball about, stomping and banging. Young children get over excited and go crazy because they can't get out and burn off their energy.
I understand children need to play but not past 11pm in till the wee hrs in the morning!😡😡😡
I actually started working nights, it was quieter at my job than at home but then I couldn't get any peace during the day.
There was no one to turn to, I would complain to my manager all the time, she was the only person who would listen. Noise torture is the worst because there is no escape.
I eventually managed to find somewhere else and moved out just last year🙏🙏
I now living in a beautiful apartment which sharing with one other lady. We both work and have weekends off. We can enjoy our lives in peace and quiet, no horrid children disturbing, no stinky skunk odour, no dirty bins outside me door, no more looking at a vermin infested landfill.
My health has improved, no more panic attack and feeling of dread. I'm back to my usual cheery self.
I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy, what I go through with those neighbour's from hell.
Some other poster gave very good advice, don't let horrible neighbour's know they getting to you, once they know their behaviour disturbing you, the bad behaviour will increase tenfold!!!! Evidence is key, keep a diary, it's not easy but you have to be strong.
Police are utterly useless, council useless and they don't give a damn because doesn't affect them.
I complained to my ombusman and also to the head of housing department at the council. I found out the neighbor's were going out and leaving the kids alone in the house, they go out from 11pm night and coming back 4am, this was when the noise bad. I didn't want to grass them up but after I didn't care if the kids were taken off them.

person who replaced her liked to come home from the pub at midnight and bring all her friends back. stomping, shouting, dropping things, moving furniture. on an on to 1 or 2 am. then lockdown happened. the pubs were closed. no more noise. it was great.
but then she moved out and the new guy is much much worse. every night until the 2am. stomping, thumping, slamming doors and drawers.

I can rarely find any reference to neighbours in blocks of flats who bang their front door, and yet this must be a burning issue for many people.
I have come to realise that, actually, nearly everybody bangs their front doors without realising that it's causing a nuisance or, in serious cases, a great deal of upset or even ill health.
We have all had the experience of people in hotels banging their room door when returning from a night out, or whatever. We either find it annoying, or it disturbs our sleep.
These people don't actually realise that they are making a noise because (strange as this sounds) their brains are *expecting* the sound of a closing door and therefore, however forcefully this is carried out, it doesn't actually affect them adversely.
However, if we are out of sight of anyone entering a doorway and are calmly going about our normal routines, a sudden "bang" can be startling and upsetting, because our brain hasn't had any warning.
For anyone who is fortunate enough not to have neighbours who pull doors forcefully, you are very lucky. But for the rest of us, we have to put up with these sudden and unexpected breaches of our peaceful existence - appreciating at the same time that such perpetrators are not doing it on purpose - it's just the way "everyone" closes their front doors!
We all need a brain that can predict sudden and unexpected noises which are out of our sight range! That way, we will "expect" the imminent noise and it won't affect us so much!

Oh My God! That is precisely the problem that I am experiencing. It's not just slamming their doors shut; we have a communal metal gate and it needs to be [gently] pulled shut or it will swing into itself and 'clank' Every tenant is aware of this, but 99% just let it slam. I must hear it at least 75 times a day because the gate's path is the main exit point for the whole of my side of the estate [35 households]. I am being tortured by noise. Its like death by a thousand cuts. And your explanation is spot on. It is the unexpected sound that really jolts because our brains are not anticipating that. I am truly sorry for anyone who has to endure that, it has messed up my sleep and now have to seek medical help.

My Grandiose Narcissist neighbor does it to attract attention or to announce his presence because he immediately looks around to see who's watching him.. another thing hes done is installed extra sliding locks on his door.. no less than 4 of them & he likes the sound of them being slammed closed... it sounds like living in a prison detention.

Start recording them...keep a diary, face to face threats are a matter for the police. Call 101 if things get really bad...do an online police report on the 101 website. It is their duty to investigate matters. Write to your local MPs, your council ect. There are noise apps you can use that will go directly to your council. It is a lengthy process but it'll pay off with all the evidence gathered. If you have CCTV place it on your front door or drive way. Any time you interact with them or them you, record it on your phone. it'll be marked down as anti-social behaviour by the police and the council and a case will be built up. Seek advice from the courts, a solicitor, as that part is free. Hope this helps as a start.

If your hell neighbor is subletting the apt or having more people than the capacity, report to the landlord/manager anonimously, and they get rid of them very quick. No noise anymore. There was apt here that had 3 families with in small 2 bedrooms with 1 bath, the 3 families: Sister,, brother, 2 female children, and the mother of the children, the grandparents, and the boyfriend of the mother that moved in. They were a pest, so entitled since they moved in. Somebody reported, and made them to move.

I have problems with the neighbours upstairs banging doors,im not just talking about the roof above me being thin and i simply hear doors closing,i mean my upstairs banging doors deliberately to the extent my Husky while sound asleep bolts up,panics with her ears down and runs through the house scared,'every' time. They also have done this all through the night, and every morning about 5 to 6am.The whole of the side of the house shakes when they shu the outside door especially, but there's something wrong with it.
I told the police and they came out,the doors were banging when i called the police,it was quiet when the police showed up,the upstairs couple just said they were watching a film, police said ok and disappeared!!Then they banged doors even worse.
The landlord of the flat above just happens to be the tenants grandfather, who is an ar*ehole too,he once sent down two guys late one night just to bang their feet up and down the stairs when the upstairs neighbours were out!!
This is the level of people i'm dealing with, that's the grandfather!!
I'm actually at the point i want to take my own life,i'm sick to death of it.My partner works at 9am and she, like me is so used to being woken up at 3,4,5am we can't sleep now before that!!
I don't know what to do about it,i wrote a long letter to the upstairs landlord explaining everything but the door banging just got worse!!
He shouts and yells all through the night too until 5,5.30 playing video games,i have it all recorded, you wouldn't belueve how loud this guys voice is,even his talking vouce i have to turn my tv up.

It's most likely that the tenant is violating their lease. We have a no noise clause from 11pm-8am. Contact the landlord/management company or ask one of the other flat owners to do it. I'd suggest knocking on the flat when the noise happens and tell them that you have young children trying to sleep. Your council may also have a noise enforcement team and you may be able to get them to come out and witness it when it's happening.

neighbours have two toddlers and yet still live the party life. Sometimes on weekdays, Sundays, no respect. Bulbs on every fence so the light fills up my room. Loud speakers in the garden usually to 1am, sometimes to dusk. Smoking shisha so opening windows on hot summer days to sleep is also impossible. They are an english couple in their early 40s, we didn't think they'd be like this when they moved in as have kids, semi-detached house. Fear reporting them as apparently have to disclose if we ever sell the house. Even when they party during the day, back of our house and garden is unusable as its so loud. If once a month fine, they party twice a week now that restrictions are over. Any advice?

I was thinking to move out and rent upstairs apt. I am so tired of living downstairs and listening to my upstairs moron neighbors. What's so paradox, they know how to be quite. But because they want to be evil, then slam the floor, stump, I wake several times every day by same noise, same routine from neighbor, lately the guy decided to play his stereo on my bedroom: "tum, tum, tum, tum-tum", then I have to hit the ceiling to hint him about his music. I don't want the neighbor's life in my apartment. Police has been here so many times. Manager spoke to them so many times until one day, the manager said something magic to them, and they stopped, it seemed nobody lived there, it was so quite, and they were like that for 2 years, then they started doing again gradually. They feel good being jerks. I wish them the worse. I saw upstairs apt with a tree in front of the window, and below this apt there is another apt. The price is $1,720, lease to lease, water and trash paid. And I pay here $1,650 and I have to pay for water that is about $65. So I would move just because of the upstair apt because in terms of price is same shit. But I am concerned about the dowstairs apt if it will another jerk. So it worth it?

My parents have a very aggressive, territorial (even though he and his wife's rent is massively reduced by the taxpayer), manipulative and petty neighbour, it's gotten so bad that he's taken to reporting them to the council 4 times for just going about their daily lives, recently bought something to loudly vibrate the adjoining wall throughout the night and seems to have to get something out of his garage every time someone leaves my parents house so he can watch them leave. My parents have complained to his landlord and have had to get the police involved who have put a neighbourhood agreement in place, meaning he can no longer approach my parents, so he's taken to posting letters through their door. Problem is that his wife is terminally ill and not involved in his childish shenanigans, so it's very unlikely they'll be evicted. So it sounds like sometimes nuisance neighbours can stick around no matter how they act or who gets involved.

Last 4 or 5 years I've lived next to noisy and inconsiderate neighbours, I used to have really good neighbours. Unfortunately I lived with my parents when they moved in and they believed I was the one making the noise for some reason so I got no support from them since my room is next to the neighbours and they spend their hours in the living room on the other side of the house., so every day I went down my friends house to avoid the noise and they got worse and worse, first their kids started screaming and shouting in the back garden all the time they were off school evenings and weekends. Also their older girl next door has a mental problem apparently and she would scream in the middle of the night keeping me awake then and making me restless. (I also have asperger's but I never screamed for no reason in the night or any other time in my life). Also we live on a close in the middle of a road so when kids congregate in the summer they do so right outside my house, my dad would antagonise them and then they would throw things at the window to drive use mad. Then about 3 years later the kids quiet down a little for a while and I think finally its all over, but then they get a dog and when it barks it sounds like a sharp yelp and it doesn't stop, and sometimes it barks at 4am or 6am. So again I am restless. My dad died a couple of years ago so I will have to move house to downsize eventually or get a massive bedroom tax bill when my mother passes on. So I am looking at moving but its taking time and I'm wondering if I should complain to council now, keep in mind I did complain to my neighbours before but all they say is that they can only shout at their kids, and they don't know what to do about the dog.
Also they like to park their big van halfway over our side of the house so nobody can park outside our place while visiting. Id love to show you the picture of my other neighbours Land Rover that has parked halfway in front of their driveway and our driveway and then put their wheelie bins on our driveway to plug the gap.

If you feel you should complain then do it! A diary of events is vital, mine was a month's worth of noise ect I've sent through one diary and now doing another. Everything you can, write down in a timeline and times, how you were affected ect. If you can get surveliance for your property/driveway then even better. I have had to write to my local MPs as well. Find out what your rights are by Law regarding this. Sending emails may take up some of your time, but email as many people as you can about this. Those with authority to deal with this kind of thing. Look on citizen's advice. Be persistent but if it is all too much to do then, moving would be the only other option. In my case, I am way too defiant and persistent for my own good sometimes, so will be seeing my issue through until it is sorted properly. You also have a right to remain annonymous, but with regards to your driveway, i'm sure you must have a right to mark it somehow as no parking, or place an obstruction that means they are unable to park on your driveway. I am wondering if it is possible for you to even have the power to fine anyone that parks there, where you can put a notice up of that too. Where removal of that sign would be seen as a criminal act of they need to go onto your property to remove it. Just a thought! :))) hope you get it sorted! Feel really bad for you!!

My neighbours have never told their daughter to use an inside voice. A couple of years ago, they got a beagle and failed to train it, resulting in much howling and barking with the added bonus of them shouting at it to shut up or the daughter shouting out descriptions of dog poo when she goes into the back garden. The smell of dog poo when I go outside in the summer. This year, they decided to breed the dog to make money, it died after giving birth to nine puppies aka the bane of my life for ten weeks, whilst continuing to yell at them to "pack it in" or "geddown". Believe it or not, I love dogs but definitely hate bad dog owners. One of the neighbours apologised to me for the noise this week but in a "it's been so terrible for them as well" way. We spoke about me working from home with that racket. The following day, he starts drilling in work hours. Today (a Sunday), they've been drilling and hammering since lunchtime and it's now 22:39. The comment about low IQ resonated, maybe they're not doing it on purpose, they're just that ignorant and inconsiderate. I just hope the adage "what comes around ..." manifests for them in 2022. They have worn my patience down so thin, it's affecting my mental health.

I think the laws in the UK must be changed to make children’s running, jumping etc. in flats illegal. It should be qualified as statutory nuisance and antisocial behaviour. Regardless of their age - it’s their parents’ responsibility to take them out to play and run like crazy, and they should provide them with quiet activities at home. Parents should be fined for their children’s noise, or moved out to ground floors. I just don’t understand why the noise made by children is not considered nuisance? It ruins people’s peace and quiet enjoyment of their property. I’ve read some comments below and it seems that a lot of people feel the same (thank God!! Now I don’t feel weird or too sensitive). How can laws in the UK be changed? Anybody knows?

It is horrid, only if you go through this, you understand. I have been in his property, and adjacent to our cylinder, the decibel noise was 22dB. I know the noise is 34dB max., but he is not accepting the noise levels. I invited him to 'report' me, but every day I get out of my car he appears and tells me the sound is unacceptable. I simply don't hear in my property, the 'whirring noise' that he and his wife complains about. I have even invited him to make a complaint to the local council, yet he is like a seagull guarding her chicks complaining to me when I come home after the school run. Mine keep throwing rocks at me in the garden. They dumped their rubbish all down the side of my house. They blast music until midnight and my elderly mother lives with me who is terrified. Their kids climb into my garden and verbally attack me in the street. All because we bought a 4 bedroom house. Its hell.

I am losing all my good neighbors and the ghetos ones stay. One left because of the guitar above the apt. Another one moved because of other noisy and crazy dogs barking with and no reasons with/without the dog owner inside home. I don't understand dog barking even when the owner is inside the apt. Whenever somebody walks outside the dog barks, somebody coughs in any apt of bldg, the same dog barks, anybody talks, the dog barks, it winds, the dog barks, 6:00am the dog is already barking waking up people, several apts can hear the dog, even on the other side of the bldg. can you imagine the apt near the wall of the neighbor, wich is same wall separating 2 apts. Can you imagine, and my apt is far, and dog gets on my nerves barks for everything with the owner inside the daughter 11 years old and the mother while the husband is working. When the dog barks, the daughter yells, screams after the bark trying to silent the dog, so we hear bark and the screams after. The girl is syndrome down does not know how to train the dog, she is 11 but behaves like 2 years old because of her condition, just screams at the dog, and the mother that suppousily normal but does not do anything to train the dog. But on weekends and holidays when the husband is at home, the dog barks less reduce the barks 90%, and I never hear the husband yelling, you don't hear a word, maybe the dog is busy snuggling with the husband in the bedroom. I wish I could move, I don't have money now to move. All the good neighbors that moved they all also had dogs, and the dogs have never been a problem, not one bark.

None of what is in this video is effective. I live in a block of flats that is apparently made out of paper, and the newest neighbours moved in about 20 months ago. They've been hammering, drilling and scraping wallpaper until 2am most days/nights since day one and still going at times. If it's not that then its loud music that can be heard over my washing machine spin cycle or slamming of internal and external doors and banging all through the day with what sounds like a 2x2 bit of wood on anything and everything they can hit. They've upset a lot of neighbours all around, having a screaming fit at one of them for parking in a parking space they wanted but the other neighbour got to it first. One of the neighbours asked me to call social services on these new people and said a few others had done that already because the new people took their baby out in the car at all hours and sometimes with no coat on. I told this neighbour that I'd seen or heard nothing to suggest they were abusing their child and that maybe she'd had a fever, and the next thing I get is abuse being shouted up through the ceiling from the new neighbours along with loud music. I can only assume they think it was me that called social services when it was me sticking up for them. (I won't ever bother again). Their noise got so loud after that - I assume in an effort to punish me for something I hadn't done - that I had to complain, which made these bastards even more vindictive, and I didn't think that was possible... turns out... it is! The housing association and the council will do nothing, stating the neighbours in question have proven time and time again that they were away at the time some of the noises were made even though they were very much in their flat. (They either change old travel tickets on a pdf file on their computer or mobile phone which is easy to do, or they travel out on a family ticket, he drops them off, buys a single ticket back and then another one out to collect his family again, travelling back on the original family tickets so it looks like he's been away as well when he's been home - and at least one time he had another woman in). I've provided photos and recordings to prove they were in but these have been ignored by housing and the council. At somewhere between 11pm and 3am nightly they'll have hammered on their wall with their fists between 8 to 16 times then slammed their front door so hard that the building shakes, and they'll do this 4 to 8 times each night unless my other neighbour is in - he usually goes away to stay with friends as he hates living here now too. As I was writing this they were slamming every cupboard door they have as hard as they can. They've hammered on the ceiling at 3.10am so loudly that it woke me up, then sat in their bedroom laughing about it right after. They are relentless. I hide my car up the road so they think I'm out and they don't make a noise until they see my car back in the carpark so I know it's malicious. I'm suffering from a disease that makes movement very difficult and very painful but I'm thinking of sleeping in my car due to the noises made by this sorry pair of lowlives, and all because murder is illegal. I should add that I've been told I'm not allowed to confront the noisy neighbours, nor am I allowed to make a noise in my flat or do anything to make them feel uncomfortable. I didn't complain for a year about their excessive noise that went on till 2am, now I'm the bad guy according to housing. All over something I hadn't done. I really don't know why these two vile individuals are protected, but they are.
