  • RSM has another video about chicken poop! Hooray! Seriously though, conversations have happened a lot lately on RSM's channel about keeping flies from becoming a problem in the chicken yard (even though they're a delicious snack for chickens, they're dirty and can bring lots of problems), as well as eliminating the smell! Chicken poop happens, and here's how to fix it. This does NOT include scooping up your flock's droppings, because - spoiler alert - RSM doesn't do it. No flies, no smell, no problem!
THE CHICKEN TENDER'S JOURNAL IS LIVE AND READY FOR PURCHASE! RSM is so happy to offer this to the community and really appreciates your support. realsimplemama.com/the-chicke...

My girls will stand in an old metal pan with water in the shade when it is hot!!! Of course it’s filthy in 10 minutes, but they are happy!

Yes! And I know it can look gross but they have clean water over there in another spot 😉

Hey this may sound silly but thank you for taking the time to research and learn BEFORE you bring chicks home. I already know you’re going to do great! And I’m here for you. ✌🏻❤️🐓

Those were great and easy tips! I never really thought of that except for the mulch. But our chicken yard is large and we would need a lot. But the hose idea is easy and I can do that when I’m watering my veggies and flowers thanks

I usually use star bar fly traps and I hate them because I feel like I’m attracting the neighbors’ flies too

How do you hose it and keep it from being a muddy mess?

I like the ground being a little wet so my chickens stay cool - and I don’t have to get every little spot, just enough to help speed up the breakdown process. I also have mulch in my run! ✌🏻❤️🐓

What is that green plant in the foreground in front of the pool?

Hi! There’s a redbud tree that trails to the ground, or a Silverado sage bush. ✌🏻❤️🐓

Throw in treats! 🤪 My new hens don’t want to stand in it either so I’ve put in big bricks and stones. Now they can hop onto a stone instead of jumping into the actual water. ✌🏻❤️🐓

Oooh also don’t add more than 2” or so of water. They don’t need to go for a swim, we literally just need them to get their feet wet. (I’ve also taken one or two hens and gently stood them in the water, and keep holding/petting them with their feet in it. They’ll hop out when I let go but at least the fear and uncertainty is gone!) AND it’ll be later this summer but I have a hilarious trick you can do to get the chickens in the pool - fishing!

Hi! I would not release them until they have no more fuzz, only full feathers and they are full size. They cannot stay warm until then. Keep working to train them to come when you call them (like if you shake their food in a can or call them with the same words each time) to help keep them safe at night. ✌🏻❤️🐓
