I’ve recently gone and listened to everything he’s ever made, and I’m familiar with his problem that’s made it so hard for him to stay in a band. I think his telling of the origin of this song probably leaves out some ugly details. I hope that he has gotten better. I hope he finds a way to live with that metaphorical, internal, bottomless pit that is addiction. No matter how many times we give in to temptation and try to fill it up, it’s always there. Always unquenchable. Never dead, only asleep.
Drove my daughter 4 and a half hours to see Slaves in Birmingham, Alabama on 6 Oct, 2018. One of the best shows I have ever witnessed. Got the opportunity to meet Jonny after the concert and he was very gracious and polite. My girl got a pic with him and he signed her Slaves shirt. I've heard a lot of trash talk about him, but my experience was the total opposite. Much respect to him for taking the time to meet and greet his fans. Can't wait to see them again. One of the best voice that I have ever heard.
Edward Shackelford he's a stand up guy to his fans. I met him in mobile, al. Seen his twice since then and he was always nice and cool. Always willing to talk and bs. Him and Kyle Lucas. Great guys.
I was lucky enough to finally hear him perform this song live a few months ago. It was just as powerful as it was in this video. He feels so strongly about this song every time.
Damn it didn’t make sense when I read your comment at the start of the video cause I didn’t know the meaning behind the song..but then he told it and damn..
Tears... Wtf man. Johnny, much respect for you bro. The past is the past. Fuck what anyone says, your music is so genuine. Not many like that out there.
It's not his fault he didn't love her the way she loved him.. not everything is always picture perfect. She probably thought if she takes the kid and leaves then it'll get him back. He's not a loser, things happen and people change nothing is always forever but he should've gotten his priorities straight before wanting to have a kid.. other then that he's an amazing artist and he doesn't deserve hate for the way he feels.
***** Plus the fact that his mental state at the time was probably in the dumps, he is a recovering addict.. Accidents happen! And this is a beautiful song to explain how he feels.
I love this dude. I've heard bad things about him from getting kicked out of bands to scamming people of MacBooks, but I still believe that was out of desperation and he's a good person inside. (That's my opinion now at least, I've only just started listening to his music and will need to do more research on him to get a full opinion, but rn it's a good opinion.)
And back to these cold shitty days in Portland, Wishing I'd never come across your face, Plagued by the memories of things unspoken, Scared by thoughts of your father, Made me look over the flaws of your nature. Laying on your back became your only escape. You feel so old, used, but not yet broken, Not to think you have it all together. I never planned to carry your burdens. But this child was a mistake. I knew from the moment I stepped off that plane, we had no future. How come your dreams are always so bitter? And who knows, maybe one day, she will know my name. You still return to the same skylines, that leave you broken. Cheap talks with even cheaper company. Keeps the days turning into nights. You lay awake crying cause your child, carries my name, while I regret ever making you apart of my life. Sadly enough, this song's not to hurt you, just to show the world that I'm free. I knew from the moment I stepped off that plane, we had no future. How come your dreams are always so bitter?. And who knows, maybe one day, she will know my name. She'll know. She will know.
that song brings a lot of sadness in him, dont you see how he held his tears inside but had to wiped them off at the end of video? he yearns to meet his chunky butt kid.
A dad that wants to be in a kid's life will be. He coulda found the baby and been there. He'd rather do heroin and fuck bitches 🤷 some men ain't built for it
I hope one day that lil kid finds out Jonny's his dad, hears this song, Jonnys been clean and good for a long time and makes a great vocalist out of him/her :D! (lame comment idgaf ..always loved this song but i didn't know this was what it was about :P)
Nobody understands their situations better than the person who's going through it so... haters hate in other videos we are her for the acoustic not your hateful opinions
Idk about that but he actually did start choking up in this audio interview from 2010 I listened to a while back while talking about this. Was also undoubtedly high af on heroin during the interview tho.
it's kinda like his child tho. he'll always have feelings for something he was accepting to take responsibility for but she just got up and ran away and stole something he was accepting to love.
Regardless of anything, I feel terrible for him. Weather the drugs came in before or after, if before it could be the cause and if after that's just more to pile on top of everything else going on. I can't even begin to imagine what its like to know you have a child but, have no information on the child or not to know if the child even knows about you. No matter if you think its dick or not, at least he let her know the truth, its obviously not what she wanted but, that doesn't make him wrong and her right. I'm on the same boat as her so I can feel for both but, to be that type if selfish is wrong and sad it its self. Now, don't get me wrong, hes a dick but, I can understand why and how he became one. And you also can't deny his talent, if you can't respect him for anything else respect him for that, he has true talent. Not only can he sing fantastic in a studio he can as well live. But, if you can't respect him why are you even watching the video?
I’ve recently gone and listened to everything he’s ever made, and I’m familiar with his problem that’s made it so hard for him to stay in a band. I love how johnny sings with so much passion. One of the greatest singers of all time.
Too bad he's a pos :,((

Junkies only hurt the people they love and who love them. If you're a stranger, you're probably safe.
His voice is a gift from the Heavens. So. Beautiful. And I dont even think the word beautiful even comes close.
Oh come on
2:35 say what you will about the guy but he has unequivocally the best voice in the genre

it's a sad sad song man. absolutely immense how he had to feel writing this.
I was lucky enough to finally hear him perform this song live a few months ago. It was just as powerful as it was in this video. He feels so strongly about this song every time.
I love Jonny, I love his music, and his voice, and this song, and everything. Thank you, Jonny.
All these years later and this song is still absolutely fantastic! And he’s still putting out high quality music as well!
i rarely cry at songs but this video is literally like making me sob :c he's so emotional, plus the context, i wish all the best for this man.
Year 2014, Jonny finds out his long lost son was actually Tyler Carter all along. Plot twist.
Get out of here I thought the same!!
I'm in awe that after singing this song thousands of times this song still evokes this much emotion out of him. It's so inspiring.
This song is just so god damn beautiful. Jonny, I love you man

Then we’ll be very lucky in 15-20 years.
Damn it didn’t make sense when I read your comment at the start of the video cause I didn’t know the meaning behind the song..but then he told it and damn..
She's a girl esque
I hope you keep singing. I miss your voice.
On some day... the child will see this video... What are the feelings of the child, when hearing this Song...
Tears... Wtf man. Johnny, much respect for you bro. The past is the past. Fuck what anyone says, your music is so genuine. Not many like that out there.
so much emotion when he sings this song, love love love it
Simply... he's the best.
and no one can deny it.
He sings it spot on. How? Holy shit.

Thanks for standing up for Jonny
***** Plus the fact that his mental state at the time was probably in the dumps, he is a recovering addict.. Accidents happen! And this is a beautiful song to explain how he feels.

Ok i cried!! Love his voice. Love him period❤❤❤

2021 july 4th still here 🤗
Wow he sounds so good here.

he was crying and i cried too.
Jonny needs to do a gospel album
I dont think he'll do that bc he said in an interview hes an atheist lmao but its rly outdated so idk
So beautiful but so freaking sad
great song :)
Somewhere out there is a child who potentially has an angelic voice
I wonder how his kids going to feel when he/she grows up and listens to this,
straight up calls it a mistake :o .... still luv jonny doe.
Victoria Gray I don't think he actually means mistake I think he meant more of an accident?
You reference the mistake lyric but completely negated the lyrics "This songs not to hurt you". Nice try.
What a role model.
Jonny Craig has been so underrated forget all the drug addiction and scandal he’s amazing
Anyone know the cords to this song? Thank you!!
I hope one day that lil kid finds out Jonny's his dad, hears this song, Jonnys been clean and good for a long time and makes a great vocalist out of him/her :D! (lame comment idgaf ..always loved this song but i didn't know this was what it was about :P)
And I thought this song was about a girl who just had a shitty past, had a child, and had to sell herself to support her child... well I was wrong...
Omg same lol 😅
I guess ill be the one who has to say it. Jonny and Macklemore could be twins
Nobody understands their situations better than the person who's going through it so... haters hate in other videos we are her for the acoustic not your hateful opinions
Good Song.
His voice omfg.
Can someone please tell me the strum pattern?
Did he cry at the end? Poor guy.
OMG he totally was crying...
:(((((((((
Idk about that but he actually did start choking up in this audio interview from 2010 I listened to a while back while talking about this. Was also undoubtedly high af on heroin during the interview tho.
@@SilversteinRescue link
Omg aric is such a cutie:))
What if there is no ex girlfriend, no kid, and he's just a great actor :o
i wish one day she will know
This makes me want a Jonny Craig and Macklemore colaberation.
it's kinda like his child tho. he'll always have feelings for something he was accepting to take responsibility for but she just got up and ran away and stole something he was accepting to love.
who’s here in 2021 👀
It's Jonny, not Johnny, okay?
So goo
Aric is such an underrated guitarist. Shame he didn't get to show off his skills in this video.
yup
guitarist for hail the sun playing?
yes
why does Jonny Craig Look Like Marco Reus?
+Javier Lopez lmfaoooooooooooooo

What?
she will know my name? He knows its a girl?? How old do you think she would be now? 8?
15-ish now.
I made an acoustic cover haha :)
Is it his kid??
He's saying that they weren't meant to have the baby, I don't think he meant to call the child a mistake
Aric Garcia!!!!! Hail The Sun>>>>>
good
dude that song topic O_o
Now, he kinda looks like Macklemore... But I love him.
dont ever say that in your life.... macklemore is shit compared to Jonny Craig
Nice, my son wrote one song too. Guitar if you play with the lights off it’s a good trick to stop looking every time you change notes.
Your argument assumes that a child being a mistake means that the parents don't still love it, which is entirely incorrect. Unplanned =/= Unloved.
you can clearly see he's not crying.
Only he knows, and the people who were there.
Love how he sings with his eyes closed
dad?
Its so strange that his life seems so perfect, when its not
he wasn't crying. just rubbing his eye a little bit but that's it.,
Damn…..
