- The History of Los Angeles began in 1781 when 44 settlers from New Spain established a permanent settlement in what is now Downtown Los Angeles, as instructed by Spanish Governor of Las Californias Felipe de Neve and authorized by Viceroy Antonio María de Bucareli. After sovereignty changed from Mexico to the U.S. in 1848, great changes came from the completion of the Santa Fe railroad line from Chicago to Los Angeles in 1885. “Overlanders” flooded in, mostly White Protestants from the Lower Midwest and South.
Los Angeles had a strong economic base in farming, oil, tourism, real estate and movies. It grew rapidly with many suburban areas inside and outside the city limits. Its motion picture industry made the city world-famous, and World War II brought new industry, especially high-tech aircraft construction. Politically the city was moderately conservative, with a weak labor union sector.
Digital voice over kills this for me.
Me too!
For over an hour there are the same images shown over and over coupled with a computer generated 'voice'. If all you want is information then it's here for you. However, If you are seeking a little more, such as an experience coupled with entertainment - not so much.
Thanks for the warning!
I’m finding more and more UA-cam videos like this. Poor images and computer generated voice overs that are well…a big disappointment-jmo
Yep. Awful.
my grandparents grew up in LA in the 1920s-40s. They used to tell me all kinds of stories I couldn't believe living in "modern" Los Angeles. My grandma always talked about her ranch and her horses in San Gabriel. If you saw San Gabriel today you'd wonder how that was ever possible.
I gave up watching after 5 minutes. The narration is way too fast. I'm looking for a more relaxed pace.
Digital voice won't eatch
Terrible doco. Keeps showing the same photos. And that computer voice, annoying
Fascinating thanks for sharing
robot too fast & distracting disconnection to text, pictures random ~ don't correlate to text
Horrible video with way too fast computer voice generated speech. Slow down the content so a mind can absorb the info.
What do you call a story that is told by a robot? The future.
No - robot voice. Definitely not.
Is it just me or the speech is really fast😐

Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, San Diego, San José, San Antonio, El Paso etc hay muchas ciudades con nombres hispanos por eso estoy orgulloso de ser hispano decendiete de españoles
@@k.s783 Actually, hispanics or Latin Americans do not forget their spanish or european ancestry. It’s integral to their identity and their country. Of course they don’t refer to themselves as spanish or european since they are not from there just like Americans refer to themselves as Americans and not europeans
Only named after but later developed by Whites
@@secrets.295 Wrong, Los Angeles was a thriving pueblo, also mexicans and spaniards can be considered white.
@@los_reyes9517Wrong. Los Angeles only boomed after the oil discovery which was developed by Whites. Later on the finance, entertainment, aerospace, pharmaceutical sector are all built by whites. Los Angeles wouldn't be that rich had it not been for the whites. It was large scale White migrations that turned LA into a gold mine. To some extent the Chinese also contributed a lot to California, well before the Chinese exclusion act. And now Asians dominate Silicon Valley. Spaniards & Mexicans contributed a lot towards agriculture. Spanish migrants to America back then worked a lot in the agriculture sector, so did the French & the Italians. But the high paying jobs are developed by mostly British, Germans, Dutch & some French immigrants. Mexican are not white, they are latinos. A large percentage of the populations is not even white, especially back then when interracial marriage is frown upon.
Chale ! While they were " Hispanic " in origin all these cities were habitated by Raza ( Mexicans ). It's our community who became independent of the Spaniards not no " Hispanics."
Modern Mexicans are a mostly a mestizo and castizo group.
AI generated narration of this is atrocious, although there is some good information here.
This is where the king II Queen of the hills was form by leader and founder Eddy in 2013.🦆🦆🦆🦆🦆
Don't bother with this. AI voice, terrible content, and pictures don't match the "narration".
Sounds like just a horrible place. Ruined by low density suburban and exurban sprawl, California now preaches to the rest of the country that the automobile on which she herself is so heavily dependent, must now be reined in. However you describe it, it is a sh__ass place.
Save your time. Just the typcal mainstrm hstory today that emphaszes anythng bad whtes did or supposedly did and never points out any other grp doing anything bad.

Los Angeles means , Those English . It has nothing to do with angels . It was a British colony before the Spanish and they were referred to as Angels so the colony was referred to as Los Angeles .
Idk what crack your smoking but you should research a little more lol. The name los Angeles came from the river that was named "El Pueblo de la Reyna de los Angeles (English: The town of the Queen of Angels)".
You should use the internet a little more
It Is fake Bro.
THE SPANISH ARRIVED IN THE AMERICAS, LONG BEFORE THE BRITISH, FRENCH AND DUTCH. THAT'S A FACT.
Pfft are you serious? California was never colonized but the English. They mostly colonized on the east coast of the US. California was first colonized by Spain, then it was part of Mexico then it was independent for a month or two before becoming a U.S. state. Los Ángeles full name is Nuestra Señora La Reina de los Angeles de Porciuncula. Though not many people know it because people mostly call it Los Ángeles or LA.
the British never reached California lol
