The A-10 Warthog dates back to the early 70's but shows no signs of slowing down. Nothing new can match it's power, durability or survivability. It's GAU-8 Avenger canon fires 30mm spent uranium armor piercing at a rate so fast the aircraft must be over half throttle to avoid stalling and falling out of the air.

@@TheRedStateBlue The original purpose was as a tank killer for the European theater towards the end of the Cold War. As a result of it's deployment Germany, Italy, and France never faced a "Battle of the Bulge" version 2.0 campaign.
Another role that uniquely benefited from it's design was support for ground troops. There are thousands of Marines and Army Soldiers that will vehemently disagree that the A10 is obsolete because they owe their lives to the A10 design team. The A10 cannot perform the mission of a carrier group, bomb wing, or fighter squadron. It is ludicrous to think that their planes can outperform the A10 at it's own mission. Until then, the A10 has the backs of every ground pounder.

The gattlin gun's design of multiple rotating barrels solves a critical problem encountered when you try to increase the firing rate too much on a regular, single-barreled automatic weapon - the barrel overheats causing the metal to lose its strength and pose a hazard to the user. By having multiple barrels rotating in and out of the firing line at high speed, each single barrel can now have a sufficiently reduced rate of firing to overcome the heating problem; but the gun still is able to shoot bullets at an extraordinarily high rate because there are multiple barrels working in concert.

3.5K Thumbs Up + Mine! 👍. Thanks for your fun, digital video recording! 🎬 ✌️😎🖖
Final Comments: (Ahem.) That guy droned on about, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, without being clear about it! Sigh. Okay, now have you ever seen airplanes today, towing banners behind them, rather than do what they call, "Skywriting"? 🤔
Well, aircraft being able to tow objects behind them, is an ability that has been going on for awhile now, going back decades. Back in the day, pilots used to fly regular airplanes with towing apparatus attached to their tail sections. One object that was towed, were practice targets.
But writers, such as those that wrote for the comedy series, "McHale's Navy", apparently thought that wasn't a good idea! Because why else would they have, "Ensign Parker", unintentionally shoot the manned airplane, rather than the towed practice target?! 🤔. Ditto for floating targets towed by boats and ships!
They must not have been the only ones to think of how inherently dangerous that method was, when guns were fired by inept people!
Because eventually the, "Target Drone", was invented! Those were the first, "Drones"!
Hence why, "UAV", the acronym for, "Unmanned Aerial Vehicle", is preferred, because to the Military, a "drone", is still for target practice! It is the bleeping civilians like the guy narrating the video, that don't care enough to make a proper distinction as they should!
Hmm. The "Star Wars" movies, made "Droid" & "Droids", household words. They are similar to, "Drone" & "Drones". So perhaps in their minds, they are just synonyms for, "Automaton" and "Robot", so really, what difference does it make? (Such people ask that a lot, while being eager to rush into using, "pedantic", because now is their chance! They do so, because they aren't doing it in person. In person, it wouldn't even occur to them to be so stubborn like that. But anyway.....)

The US military actually owes its technological edge to our early Cold War doctrine. The US army realized that they could never build as many tanks and recruit as many infantrymen as the USSR, so they decided to take a quality over quantity approach. While the Soviets built thousands of tanks that were somewhat crude but had overwhelming numbers, the US military would build less tanks than the Soviets, but the tanks they built would be of such a high quality that it was believed that they could destroy at least 10 Soviet tanks for every American tank lost. This principle was applied to our aircraft, ships, infantry, etc.

    • @balancedactguy
      @balancedactguy 3 роки тому +1

The number of Soviet Troops and Tanks at present really is irrelevant. Had the USSR and the US duked it out, it would have ended with a Nuclear Exchange as soon as one side gained too much of an advantage over the other. The days of massed troops and massive Tank Battles is over.

All this comparisons of power, some say Russia is the best, some say US is the best, but in reality, most countries are dead broke and because most of them pissed off Russia in WW2, we are all scared of Russians. But one country in Europe that doesnt fear US nor Russia, said that, its impossible for US to trust anyone, and its possible Russia wont easily cooperate and be extra cautious. In reality there is no one to blame, at that moment, that single history, everyone made a mistake, what Nazis did was brilliant, surrender to US and left out Russia, while Japan to this day, technically still at war with Russia and China.

PS: The "Gatling Gun' was originally designed to make "War so destructive that nobody would ever want to go to war again". Instead it has proven to be one of the most USED weapons of war simply because of how deadly and versatile it is. From being mounted on vehicles, tanks, ships, planes and posts (ground based) the "Gatling Gun" has been used for basically everything from Anti-Aircraft to basic "perimeter defense". Think about that for one moment. ONE weapon "system" has been used so many times by so many different nations that it is UNTHINKABLE to be in a war without SOMETHING like it on your side.

US inventor Hiram Maxim invented the truly modern machinegun and the silencer during the late 19th Century . The US military command saw no need for either . Foreign militaries , particularly the German and Russian armies were keen on Maxim guns , and by WW1 fielded thousands of them . US military leaders really screwed the pooch with that decision . To their credit , the US command realized the genius of John Moses Browning and fielded several weapons of his design . Notably the ...30 cal BAR , the M1919 .30 cal MG , and the M2 .50 caliber Heavy MG .

09:37 Watch the John Wayne movie True Grit. There is the hand cranked Gatling Gun carried in the wagon, used by Katherine Hepburn. That is the forebear of the GAU-8 in the A-10 Warthogs and the 20mm Gatlings in the AC130.
The redundancies in the Warthog means that even if the main systems are shut down by battle damage, the mechanical hardware still allows the pilot to aim the GAU-8 by aiming the plane and aiming with Mk 1 eyeballs. The landing gear was designed not to interfere in the line of sight for the gun. It is designed to loiter and stay on station for hours to provide Close Air Support. When it is landed, it can use dirt roads, highways, even open desert. It can be refueled, rearmed, and launched back into action from shorter fields than most planes. With airborne refueling, they can be on mission until they need more ammo or the pilot needs sleep.
The speed of fire and range means that if you can hear the BRRRRT, it wasn't aimed at you. When the rounds are flying, it obliterates targets inside of a 5 foot radius with depleted uranium ammunition at supersonic speed.

We Americans like to think that our technology isn't paving the way for wars of the future. We like to think that we're paving the way to making war a completely unacceptable option. The idea of "peace through superior firepower" may sound like a contradiction in terms, but so far it's been working, making a conflict between nations that would involve the United States something that no country would ever want to try. As was pointed out in the video "the fallen of world war II" we are now in the midst of the "long peace" also known as the "Pax Americana", where no industrialized nation has gone to war with another nation where the United States would get involved because they simply cannot win. People died in the Second World War, lots and lots of people who didn't need to die, simply because no one was able to nip the threat in the bud. That's no longer the case. The United States also wants to make any country think twice about attacking an American Ally. Any country that thought of attacking New Zealand would have to realize the first thing they'd see is some very pissed off Americans..

It was a bit random at the end with the extra footage. That sort of video is a bit self-congratulatory in a typical "we're the best" propagandist way. Yes the US can afford to develop some very good weapons but they often need to copy other people's ideas to get there. They would never have broken the sound barrier if they hadn't stolen the UKs idea of a "flying tail" and they didn't invent the jet engine or computers or aircraft carriers. There's no good having precision weapons if they bomb the wrong side, like they did a few times in the 1st Gulf War.

    Heya, CC,
I'm not on Patreon, but I enjoy the crap out of your videos. Jumping right in, I have a dual suggestion regarding your reactions to all things American.
First, listen to this VOICE-ONLY band's rendition of Lee Greenwood's "God Bless The U.S.A."
    ua-cam.com/video/nFt9D6ZIjOQ/v-deo.html
The band is called "Home Free". They take Pentatonix to the next level, including doing a cover of a Johnny Cash tune with Pentatonix's amazing bass, Avi Kaplan, paired with their own amazing bass, Tim Foust.
I could say LOT more about these five individual superstars coming together with their own blend of country, R&B, gospel, and whatever crazy style they take on next. Easier just to say I KNOW you'd love them.
What might catch your eye the most is how much of their playlist are songs about, and loving, America.
SECOND, puh-lease react to their iron-hot success, so good it has impressed the original artists enough to do collaborations with them.
The bookend to the above piece, "God Bless the USA", is Lee Greenwood himself, backed by Home Free, and some of the most talented vocalists in the U.S. armed forces *The U.S. Air Force Band singers*, released during the Covid shutdown a year ago:
    ua-cam.com/video/SrMftm6Km3g/v-deo.html
THERE ARE, AMAZINGLY, NO INSTRUMENTS USED IN EITHER VIDEO.
And if you like them, maybe react to their collaboration with legendary Don McLean, for a new release of his iconic "American Pie."
I want you to just drop everything and go watch, because I Want To Be There, when you become a Home Fry.
But there's a process, I know. Are there any Home Fries among your subscribers who will find a way to support this suggestion?

Remember Class, the top THREE "military air forces in the world are":
    1) The US Air Force.
    2) The US NAVY Air Force.
    3) The US Army/Marine Air Force.
Why are they counted separately? Because of US military budget requirements, the Air Force, the Navy, the Army and the Marines MUST count their planes/helicopters INDIVIDUALLY in order to justify the amount of money being spent on EACH branch of the military. Meaning that every single plane/helicopter/drone in the Air Force is counted JUST for the Air Force, while the Navy counts their plane/helicopter/drone JUST for the Navy. And it should also be pointed out that the Navy ALSO keeps their nuclear weapons counted individually from the Air Force, the Army and the Marines for the same reason .. budget requirements. It should ALSO be pointed out that EACH branch of the US Military count their 'squadrons' in different methods for the role they are being used for. So while there may be (random number) 8 planes in a "squadron", the Air Force will likely stick to 8 planes prepared for the same role but the Navy will have 8 planes with 2 of those 8 prepared for more "ground/ship" attack.
Basically what I'm saying is that ONE of the reasons you do NOT mess with the USA is because we can call upon ANY ONE OF THE BRANCHES of the military to rain death from above on your head.

The ultimate expression of the Gatling is the Gau 8. Thirty eight feet long, with the A-10 Warthog built around it. It fires 30mm depleted uranium rounds that pretty much destroy anything they hit; buildings, tanks, Iraq, whatever you point it at.
