The battle of El Alamein is considered one of the most decisive battles of WWII. It was fought between the Panzer Army Africa (German and Italian troops), commanded by General Erwin Rommel (Desert Fox), and the British 8th Army, led by General Bernard Montgomery. The battle was part of the North African Campaign to control the area from Egypt to Morocco. In 1942, General Rommel launched an offensive from Libya to capture the Suez Canal and Cairo from the British. However, the British forces under General Montgomery tried to stop him at El Alamein. The ensuing battle would decide the fate of Colonial North Africa.

I think Rommel was a great general as compared to Montgomery. Rommel was defeated because he was lacking soldiers fuel ammunition and tanks.
