The first N scale DCC loco I bought wasn't fitted with a sound decoder or speaker, and I was okay with that. The next loco I bought did have sound and all I can say is... EVERY new loco from now on that I buy WILL have sound. It's that good!! 👍
I did that. First loco, straight forward dcc but after trying dcc sound, I won’t go back. They are more expensive but, for me, well worth the extra money. I’m building a club 009 layout and that is full dcc sound locos too.
The modern DMU's sound nice

Thanks for the vids bud, are the different sounds hard to program on the controller?
I use the prodigy
They come preprogrammed on the dcc chip and already assigned to a function. You just press a function key and it then makes the sound.
Hii there Dan. Can you recommend me some good brands for N scale DCC sound loco? I've seen lots of HO ones, but not the N.
