Just visited the Burton Court website. It seems that after this documentary was made, they did eventually succeed in turning the estate into a highly sought after and profitable venue! They host weddings, corporate events, open air theatre productions, and antique fairs. They also have a couple of bedrooms set up for bed & breakfast accomodation. Their guided tours include tea and scones. Nice!
Just because the site states options are available (corporate, etc.) does not mean Burton Court was actually hired or is keeping its collective head above water with the parties who HAVE used their services, as much as it is wished & hope this would happen.
@@twistoffate4791 I would agree generally with your reply but I've done some digging and they've truly been able to turn things around and are thriving.
I see MANY comments wondering if it's still around or that even if it's still here that it's probably not doing well so I've taken the time to search many different outlets to see how things are and here's what I've found so far: As early as the mid point of July they're still hosting all sorts of events and people who have stayed in the B&B area have all given it glowing reviews and I'm happy to say that this includes many people who live all through different countries and not just locals trying to keep it alive. They also mention how warm Edward and Helen are. I wish them continued success. 😊❤
I suggest to take the roof tiles off where ever these are not visible from below and put metal sheets instead. At least in that part of the roof where the pine needles are blocking the gutters. Just by adding 1 m height of metal the rain water will not be able to overflow any more. The removed tiles will be kept as spares for all areas where the roof must appear in the historical correct style.
Don't know that Edward was so horrible to his Mom. He was under a lot of stress. She seemed helpful but could also see how she could be problematic and interfering. Always allow for how these reality docs might play things to give the most interesting drama vs most reality. Edward was apparently trying to address the situation faced by his parents by taking responsibility. Just not sure if some of the harsh criticism given to him here in comments is fair.
Why don't they set up a Patréon account for people to help them maintain the estate? There are several UA-cam channels where chateau's have requested patreon accounts.
They got it right: they understood that if there is a thing aging ladies simply LOOOOVE to do together is snidely criticizing the drawing room color scheme and the furniture while sipping their teas.
As I love the Tudor era I'd make the entire place a medieval castle with medieval feasts and dancing and fairs and May Day celebrations. and weddings and have bed and breakfast accommodation and all the staff in Tudor costume. I'd have medieval societies and jousters on special occasions and authentic food and wines and ales and mead etc. That would be it's identity......Tudor all the way.
The mowing wires must be newly winded against the displayed arrow direction. Then the wired will stay intact. I did not make that up, but that is how it works.
Her money and home..and the creep son treating her that way.ill bet Edward has never done a thing on his own...poor lady just was happy welcoming people , and banished to her bedroom.
was anyone else uncomfortable with seeing the obviously young pretty asian girl walking into that room with that very old guy as her new husband? creepy. just creepy.
I find the whole premise of this show ridiculous. In the 1800s , these families could afford to live in these homes because they used SLAVE LABOR to maintain them. After slavery was outlawed many of them couldn't afford the upkeep. Now in 2021 - why should the public have to pay for you to be able to afford your home ? Why can't their son get a job? Maybe he could afford to fix his roof! Who the heck wants to pick fruit when you can go to the grocery store? These people want to live in the 1800s still. Newsflash. Its 2021 and thanks to the 3rd and 4th industrial revolutions, life has changed. Also, as a bride if i rented a venue and they were woefully understaffed and didn't have the room for my guests AND LIED ABOUT IT... they wouldn't be getting paid. That's just poor business ethics.
You try looking after your parents when they insist on living in a manor they can not afford. If it means asking for money to get the means to start a business that will keep a roof over their head, well I say that is taking care of them. The father is gone now and the estate is still intact so I think we can safely say all is well.
What was once grand has become dilapidated and tacky and not much of the past interior ambience left - needs a major overhaul to have any attraction for visitors.
He who hesitates loses it all. They almost lost it all, but Edward persevered, they have a successful business now. I think it was a matter of get on with it, no more tales of the past we have to focus on now! These homes are money pits and if you let it get away from you all is lost.
It’s sad to see that the owners neglected repairs in the first place. Sadly the revamping ideas should have been implemented decades ago. It’s not always one event that can fix things. Best wishes for the next year.
Why on earth would you want to collect and look at those poor dead animals? I'm sure that at one time that family could have enjoyed traveling and seeing them in their environment....alive. Pictures would have been wonderful. Sadly the people in Burton House will be carried out the way those animals are now being loaded onto trucks. Very sad justice.
It was a "thing". Victorians even did taxidermy as a hobby. Those are amazing antiques but not to everyone's liking. Not mine for sure but neither is coin collecting or stamp collecting.
I can't watch this - between all the dead animals in glass boxes to killing a fly instead of opening the window to let it out ....no respect for animal life
Before doing any more damage, fix the roof. ROOF FIRST Someone is giving this family poor advise. The wrong Auction. They should have advertised so the family gain the profit not those picking up a cheap outfit at a local Auction, then selling on EBay to Museum Collections. Son should have a real job, get the funds to fix the roof, not ask Mum and Dad, he’ll inherit after he bleeds the family dry.

The Antic Fair is nice for the mother. To meet interesting people and sell a bit of her stuff, too.

The son, Edward works so hard, love his strength. More power to you Edward!

What year was this documentary made?
I love these two. I'd be in that fruit farm once a week if I lived nearby. Beautiful place.
This is the best reality show ever. All of you are fabulous people. God Bless you all.

Would love to visit this house. It's Beautiful and needs to have the needed repairs done. Hope the son can keep it!!
The lady of the manor is straight from a Jeeves and Wooster episode
Old man died in July 2018 at the age of 95 R.I.P sir. Helen is still alive I believe and has 4 grandchildren. Burton Court is now a hotel.
Thanks for update
Thank you for the update..Helen is such a sweet lady..I'm sorry she couldn't keep her home.
Oh nooooo
@@heatherwhittaker6169 If you look at the website you will see it is still owned by the family. The son has made it into a Hotel.
Helen is a lovely lady the son is horrible to her
I think this residence has so much potential. I really hope that they can make it amazing. 💕
They should MAKE JAM OUT OF THAT BEAUTIFUL FRUIT! I WOULD TOTALLY BUY SEVERAL FOR MYSELF & GIFTS!
Great to see Edward found’the right woman’ and has a young daughter 🥰

This is so funny - real life when everything ages all at once.
Sad to have to sell your things but you cant take it with you. You gotta do what you gotta do.
Call Drew from Salvage Hunters
God love that old man and woman poor old souls .I pray for it to work out. The hurt in her old face a liven shame.
That is the saddest dog I’ve ever seen ☹️
They should join forces with a wedding planner who can direct people to their clients to have their ceremonies at the castle 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
They have been successful with weddings and now offer many options.
Hopefully the son will continue with family tradition.
Wonderful video

Very cool!! Would love to go there someday.
The old lady is so cute. Bless her heart. Her and her husband great!
That flamingo tho-
Luv this house. I luv houses from long ago they have something houses do not have now days
It was heart breaking and it's sad that they won't bend yo let thier son take control. But if they are going to stay afloat

This is what happens when Hyacinth Bucket finally succeeds at moving up in the world.
The taxidermy is dry rotted, sell before its rubbish.

your grandmother 一定是非常疼你的,我這样想。
To maintain a house you need estates and workers.
可不可以打掉重蓋呢?
just keep on.
The old boy is pickled.

你有看过星海別墅嗎?
那兒風水也很棒的。
我十分喜歡看外国的房子,像淡水那兒的星海別墅也很棒呢,在淡水三芝。
Don't she looks beautiful with her eye shadow on
“It’s my business, she doesn’t need to be here.” Um excuse you bro, she gave you the money to start said business and it her house! Show some respect.
They didn’t get much into the 900 year
History
Patrick3183, I bemoan the same observation, as I was really looking forward to delving into the deep past.
The parents are slightly eccentric 😊🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Cut down the pine tree or trim the branches from the house.Or put mesh along the gutters about two inche gap problem not going to go away.
Disgusted with that abusive son.
因為他每次告訴我那兒很好,結果都没決断力。
可以蓋成新的莊園or別墅呢,予這地方可以有新的朝氣,带动活力。
The house is very old,I feel。
😂 22:50 - чо она пропищщяла? 😂
Edward I know you are very stressed out of your head but u are very rude to your old mother and father please be kind to them there not here for ever
Yes,Amy it looks like Edward does not appreciate all he's been given over life..Hes arrogant at best.
若是你想要買的話,趁著明天趕快去看看。

OMG I was looking for this comment! And the fact that NONE of the guest were of Asian descent, totally gives me mail ordered bride vibes 😬
Yes and he was a total ass, whatwhat?
你有空可以去參观看看,真的很棒,我十分喜歡那兒的環境呢。
Wow he was a handsome guy back in the day

That poor polar bear!😡😥They are now becoming extinct because of people like this wanting a bloody rug🤬
The commercials are horrible! I can't even finish watching this. I just can't stand it.
Get rid of all those awful moth eaten dead animals for starters.

Why oh why is the music drowning out the dialogue? So irritating. Goodbye - not wasting my time with this.

Animals yes blue bottles no flies are spreaders of disease and illness definitely kill it
The windows may not be able to open
