Well played! My first "expensive" bottle was a $150 Garrison Brothers silver top barrel proof that was bottled at a wonderful 66.9% ABV. I have been hunting for a replacement for years! GB is legit awesome! Well done, you.
Cheers Doc, that looked like a lot of fun. I would love to see you do a video of your very own barrel pick and I would also like to volunteer to purchase a bottle.
Hey I would love to help you out. But New Braunfels Bourbon sold these out quickly. But hopefully soon I will be able to get my first barrel pick. cheers
Thats so cool especially as a first time experience. Garrison Brothers is right up there with Still Austin and Balcones for Texas branded whiskey and looks like a very well ran and pretty distillery.
I agree with you. I have been to all three of these. loved my experience at each. But this was my first barrel pick experience. it was perfect introduction. such a great time. loved it. plus great bottle. 😉
I've done a couple picks this year and I'm looking forward to doing a few more. Doing a barrel pick really varies by distillery. Garrison Brothers goes more along the traditional tour then tasting route which is fun, but usually most people in the group have toured a distillery or two before. I'm always down to learn the history before doing the pick but a barrel pick can take a while and I like getting to the whiskey pretty quick there is more time to find the right barrel. The fact they dumped and barreled it that day is pretty unique. We've been offered to hang out and bottle the barrel same day but we usually pass. The retailer we use prefers to get barrels at specific times of the year so we usually do the pick then have it bottled 2-3 months later. Speaking of later - Later this year I'll finally be heading to some legacy distilleries to do picks. I think we have Four Roses, Makers, and Jack Daniels. Most looking forward to the Jack Daniels rye pick but Four Roses has you blind all 10 mash bills, so that'll be pretty fun. No Sazerac picks for our group this year, but maybe next year.
@@apeekintime oh you are so lucky. Since this one I have been on two more. Stranahans in Denver and Jack Daniels for two and rye and bourbon. 🥃 you are right so very different at each and all unique experiences for sure. I can’t wait to do more. You have some amazing picks to do for sure. What group is it for would love to join if possible and get some of your bottles. I am quickly discovering that barrel picks are some of the best bottles and more accessible and less expensive than a lot of the allocated stuff. Side note That makes me think I should do a video on that. As for sazerac I believe they do drawings every quarter so you may still have a chance. Thanks for sharing. Love it. Cheers 🥃
Love the video and would love to see some other picks you did!
Hey thanks. will work on others too. cheers
Looks like you had a blast! Would love to see your experience on other picks. Cheers!
