    Ah... I am really envious about southern forests. They look so lovely with those large trees and the mats of leaves. Like magical fantasy forests. I live in the north of Scandinavia and there are no oaks here at all. Pretty much just pine and birch. But we do get some of the same mushrooms as you picked today so it is not all bad.

      We always want what we don't have and don't appreciate enough what we do have :) For example here it's quite difficult to find a forest large enough which is in a good condition and not full of other people. I guess this could be a bit easier in the North of Scandinavia. Is it like that?

      @@LukesMushrooms Oh, that is true. I live kind of in the middle of a massive forest really. I can drive for hours on large roads and still have trees surrounding me on all sides. (There was a visitor from the netherlands that felt like when the airplane came in to land it was just landing right in the middle of a huge forest... which it kind of is.) You are right about not appreciating what we have... so I should probably just go out in the woods and enjoy the fact that I will feel like I am completely alone out there, not a single other person in sight. Aah. Solitude. 😌

    Your videos are awesome :) I have some beginner questions:
    1) Is there any practical reason why you tuck in the hole after you pick up the mushroom?
    2) Some of the mushrooms looked they are a bit mouldy (for example 13:08, 15:03). Is it mould, or is it just a different pigment of the pores? If it is mould, what makes you decide if the mushroom is or is not too mouldy to keep?

    • @SummerYeti
      @SummerYeti Рік тому +2

      Answer to #1, it helps protect the biomass below the surface from which the mushrooms sprout.

    • @LukesMushrooms
      @LukesMushrooms  Рік тому +2

      So #1 was basically answered. I would just add that I don't like to leave traces (holes) so it's not so easy for other people to spot where a mushroom was growing.
      Ad #2, at 13:08 the mushroom is not moldy. You probably mean the blue-ish tones but they are normal for bay boletes. About 15:03, that probably wasn't moldy either, but at the end I didn't take that mushroom as I considered it too old.

    • @LukesMushrooms

      It is recommended to skip the whole mushroom if there is visible mold. Cutting the moldy part off might not be enough as the whole mushroom can be already infected.
