It’s funny how computers omitting cd drives now makes these type of products relevant. I kept my old Mac just to rip cds that I find at yard sales and such.

Yes ,, I've purchased an external cd player for my Kangaroo mini
PC to also rip cd's . Also ,, when using my Chromebox ,,, I can't use
the external ,, because I haven't come across any Chrome program
that rips or burns cd's .

When I purchased my laptop I wasn't too bothered that it didn't have a disc drive, knowing from years of looking I'd likely not find a Blu-Ray burner on anything outside of Sony (which Vaio line was liquidated) so I'd be looking external, which at the time some still had DVD but none had BD drives...now I don't think any do. @analogmatrix1442

In the 90’s JVC sold a personal CD player, with the main selling point you could play it lid open. It was possible to see the laser trying to detect the disc if you pressed play with no disc in it. But to damage your eye with a cd laser you eye would have to be very close to it.

I remember back in the early 2000's many stereos and probable CD players came with transparent covers it was so cool and I never saw a laser through it, I remember when I got my first portable CD player that could play while you were walking and moving without skipping or stopping the music, also I remember my portable cassette players, they were something 😋, never had a walkman or Discman as they were very expensive and I was a kid back then, the only one that survived is a Sony Discman my dad bought in the 80's or 90's it still works, also it's red laser which is not that harmful.

I grew up on records, 8-Tracks, and cassettes. I remember the big deal it was when the Sony WM-1 Walkman first came out. I did, however, miss out on short lived formats like Muntz 4-Track cartridges (actually the progenitor of Lear's 8-Track) and Hi-Way Hi-Fi, which were mainly for cars.

I cannot tell you how many times I have had to (with some aggravation) open my portable CD player to see which disc was in it. Come to think of it, this is true with any CD player be it portable, car or hi-fi deck. I cannot think of another single CD player which will allow you to see the disc. Actually this player is quite unique.

No mention of the price, the clear cover will only get scratched-up over time. You never saw ear buds that have ear tips? The silicone ones supplied suck, get a set of foam tips from Comply. CDs read from the inner part, running outward, the laser is weak & won’t damage your eyes, only activates when it’s reading a disc, no risk to user. Having an FM tuner option is neat. The supplied synthetic cloth bag is cheap/no padding for protection. Sound quality isn’t impressive, it’s just a cheap generic Chinese product. If you want a good quality CD player with HiFi attributes, consider 3 brands; JVC, Denon & Technics. Most are no longer being manufactured, so a used, well cared for unit is desired. I recommend aTechnics model; a padded storage bag is supplied, no FM radio, a non-illuminated display, it features a 2 position bass boost switch, & a line out port, with true HiFi circuitry for great sound quality, that rivals a lot of home stand-alone players. Don’t get fooled with flash in the pan designs. It’s your money, get what you deserve, buy Japanese.
