  • If you can't bring your own airplane to a family vacation, you find a cool flight school that will rent you one. So I found Maui Flight Academy, who are not only a flight school, but they specialize in making your flight learning experience a Hawaiian adventure.
    Laurence Balter, Founder and CFII, tough me a ton about Angle of Attack indicators and through an amazing biennial flight review we also saw the awesomeness of the Hawaiian natural beauty that is next to none.
    On this VLOG you will see Molokai's Giant Sea Cliffs, Lanai's Four Season's Resort, Flying over the active volcano and it's hot lava fields at Hilo, and finally the beautiful scenery of Maui's south coast.
    What an experience that was, while trying to film a instructional flying adventure, with the main character being the flight instruction and the flying in itself, the natural beauty of Hawaii took over and commanded to be the main character.
    Hawaii, I will be back...

    Nothing like two exceedingly talented pilots flying in a Cirrus aircraft. Now that’s a safe flight for any passenger which I sure wish was me lol. Thanks for another great video.

    I loved living and flying in Hawaii while I was stationed there with the USCG. As I was watching you make the approach into Lanai I suddenly remembered having landed there myself during my pilot training. A quick check of my old log and I discovered that was actually my last flight before I had to temporarily stop my pursuit of obtaining my private pilots license. Thankfully in part to your video's I have made the decision to take up that pursuit once again.......20 years later but I'm going to get it done this time. Thank you sooooo much for taking the time to create and share your time behind the controls of such a beautiful aircraft. You're an inspiration and you have definitely stoked the flames of my desire to get back in the air again. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

    This was great to watch and brought back memories for me! I took my (now) wife up with Laurence where I proposed to her on Lanai. And then she flew us all back to Maui with her new shiny new ring. Laurence made the whole event perfect in every way. I cant recommend Laurence enough!

    Hello Niko Wings. Loved your video so much I engaged Maui Flight Academy, Laurence Balter to give me a BFR while I am vacationing. It was awesome. Loved it all, learned a lot and agree with you- the views of Hawaii - are breath taking. Thanks for the video and referral to Maui Flight Academy.

    What did you think of that AOA indicator? Was that your first time flying with it? Do you think it added value to your flying? Just curious cause I'm not sure if I was sold on it from they little plug you had but I could see how it is/could be an important additional tool.

    • @NikosWings
      @NikosWings  6 років тому +1

      I’m not that smooth and precise, the videos are highly edited, but I try my best. Best advise I can give, is stick with it, go fly, learn a lesson with every flight and seek that lesson. God speed to you too!

    why the reupload? any changes? except putting the volcano in? i guess that's gonna get some views so i can understand it still for people who have already seen it it's not so great. whatever more views means more videos so i shouldn't complain.
    anyway still a great video :)

    The sea cliffs at Molokai are the result of a massive landslide where half the island slid into the ocean 1.5 million years ago creating a mega tsunami. There is evidence all around the Pacific Ocean of waves as high as 1000 feet hitting various shores as a result of this tsunami.
    The thing is, this is not an isolated instance. You will notice that the largest of the Hawaii Islands is the youngest, the Big Island of Hawaii. As you head west, the Islands get progressively smaller. Every Island in the chain has, at one time or another, had at least one massive landslide similar to that of Molokai. Over millions of years they have shed their land and become smaller and smaller until finally they disappear into the ocean. You can see evidence of all the previous islands if you look at Google Earth. You can also see evidence of recent landslide as their debris fields are visible on Google Earth.
    The long line of islands and seamounts is called the Hawaii-Emperor Seamount Chain. It extends from just a few dozen miles East of the Big Island all the way West and North-West to Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula and the Aleutian Islands. Those seamounts used to look like the Big Island in the past, but eventually were reduced to nubs on the sea floor by massive landslides and weathering.
    The Big Island is fractured and movement of it's land can be measured. It's possible to take a tour of the fracture and walk in between the two pieces of the Island, the one that will slide into the ocean and the one that will be left. Scientists know where the landslide is most likely to occur, but they don't know when. Humans may not be around when the landslide occurs. When it does occur, it will devastate much of the Pacific coast of Asian, North and South America and Australia and all the tiny and not so tiny islands in the middle.

      Just like Santorini 5,000 years ago

    • @operator0
      @operator0 4 роки тому

      @@NikosWings Yeah, kind of. Santorini collapsed into the sea directly because of a plinian eruption. It's thought that the Hawaiian Islands collapse may not involve an actual eruption, certainly not a plinian eruption.
      The Sanorini eruption was far, far bigger than any known eruption to have occurred on the Hawaiian Island chain. In fact, Santorini was one of the largest eruptions to have occurred in the very recent geologic history.
      In either case, the destruction is massive, as the Minoans can attest.
      I would love to visit Santorini someday.

    No offense, but going to Hawaii and wasting a second filming the stores and not the mountains, jungle, or ocean and then starting your location montage with it is a little bit nuts.
    Yes, the shopping is pretty great (expensive as hell) there, sure, but still man.
