I have been a L&H fan for 60yrs, I bet I've played this a thousand times. Those were the days. Picture yourself at one of tables in the audience, enjoying life.
Guy was cuter than the girls. What a damn catchy melody! I've been whistling and singing it for no good reason for the past 40+ years since I heard it on a late night local TV classic film show.
Truly wonderful. I have the colourised film and it does enhance this scene a lot. I am a member of the Sons of the Desert, and we had a visit to our meeting by a largish group of foreign students. We showed this film and it brought the house down.
While down on a South Sea island Underneath the beauty of the stars I strayed upon some maidens Who were strumming on their guitars A hula maid was dancing And she knew I'd found my paradise So this is what I told her As I gazed into her eyes... Honolulu baby, where'd you get those eyes And that dark complexion, I just idolize Honolulu baby, where'd you get that style And the pretty red lips, and that sunny smile When you start to dance, your hula hips entrance When you shake it up and down You shake a little here, you shake a little there Well you got the boys going to town Honolulu baby, sure know your stuff Honolulu baby, gonna call your bluff
I was on my honeymoon in Hawaii, I could not get this song out of my head, did not know where it was from or anything. Years later watching Laurel and Hardy I realised why. Watched this as a child, and in the recesses of my brain when i was hawaii, it played in my head time and time again.
Ty Parvis is the singer. The orchestra consists of Hal Roach's musical staff. The gentleman playing the piano is the legendery T. Marvin Hatley, who wrote the L&H theme song, "Dance of the Cuckoos."
fantastico il cantante e anche come si muove si vede che è un fuoriclasse. da come si muove potrebbe fare il maestro in un qualunque programma di oggi.
Wow. Thanks for info. He was cuter than the girls. I still laugh myself to tears watching this film. First saw it in the early 70s on latenigtht TV when I was in my early teens. Have absolutely loved Stan and Ollie since.
Man, I used to sing this one when I was a kid! My Mom would strum on her ukelele! Trivia note: Spanky MacFarlane sang this one in a "Little Rascals" talent show.
All I've ever read about Ty Parvis was that he was Betty Grable's dance partner before she was a big star. I'd love to see a clip of them performing together from that period, but it's likely that their work was in vaudeville and not on film. Usually Hal Roach's performers appeared in more than just one of his pictures; I wonder if there are other sightings of Ty.
Merciless spoof of the ubercamp Busby Berkeley musicals of this period. Wonder how Dick Powell felt about this scene when he saw it! Mel Brooks also is clearly referencing this stuff at the end of Blazzing Saddles. Stan & Ollie forever!
Sure! I always thought "Sons of the Desert" was their funniest feature film. Two scenes get me: when Stan gets his head caught in the metal tub under Ollie's behind and the scene in the attic when the lightning comes into the house and strikes them in the hammock they're lying in, lol. It happens fast, but you can't stop laughing.
Kyrani an Geraghty They are not really virtually topless, they are wearing flesh coloured body tops with bras underneath. They wouldn't have got away with anything so risque on film in those days.
The fellow sitting at the table with stan and laurel is charlie chase. He was a star in his own right in the early days of talkies. He might have started in silents but I'm not sure.
Charlie Chase was a silent movie star who was cast in excellent comedy films. He also made talkie films into the 1930's. But to me his silent movies are best. (Here in Hololulu he is playing a cameo role) But he Laurel and Hardy worked for the Hal Roach Studio.
They are wearing proper bras under their skinsuits…I can see them. Plus, in those days, they would not have been allowed to go bra-less in a family feature.
I always wondered if the lyrics meant something different than they appear to be... "Strumming on their 'guitars' ", "were'd you get those 'eyes' ", etc.
@MrWomanish the boys shouldn't have lied. it was still a funny scene when the police escorted them to there front door & they pretended to act sad. shiphiked ? thanks for writing. it's always nice to hear from fellow fans.
RIP to those who acted in this film.Even the singer of Honolulu baby.May his soul rest in peace

Glad I'm not the only one who got it stuck in his head so it occasionally resurfaces for 20 years! haha
Me too! 🤣
"Pulled a fast one, huh?" L&H's greatest film. It should be shown at all suicide prevention clinics.
Many great comedians of today stand on the shoulders of these giants. A sad loss when they left us but always in our hearts and minds remembered.
Good grief! I saw this movie in 1961 on my Nan and Pop's TV. Wow. memories.
Truly wonderful. I have the colourised film and it does enhance this scene a lot. I am a member of the Sons of the Desert, and we had a visit to our meeting by a largish group of foreign students. We showed this film and it brought the house down.
Love it!!! Ty Parvis was marvelous with this song. Is very catching. Laurel and Hardy and Charley Chase...unforgettable actors.
Per me il PIÙ BEL FILM della coppia HARDY /LAUREL e questa scena di ballo con la canzone Honolulu Baby la trovo stupenda .!
While down on a South Sea island
Underneath the beauty of the stars
I strayed upon some maidens
Who were strumming on their guitars
A hula maid was dancing
And she knew I'd found my paradise
So this is what I told her
As I gazed into her eyes...
Honolulu baby, where'd you get those eyes
And that dark complexion, I just idolize
Honolulu baby, where'd you get that style
And the pretty red lips, and that sunny smile
When you start to dance,
your hula hips entrance
When you shake it up and down
You shake a little here,
you shake a little there
Well you got the boys going to town
Honolulu baby, sure know your stuff
Honolulu baby, gonna call your bluff
Outstanding song and thank you for posting this rare gem!

just classic! will live forever!
The best for ever and ever and ever .. whoever you are giving thumbs down shame on you

Long live LAUREL AND HARDY !
It was on TV yesterday and I've bee humming it ever since.... it does that, music goes round and round in my head for ages after!
From the 1930's. Still one of my favorite scenes ever since the 1950's.
Great sequence, with Stan and Ollie to boot! And one of my favorites, Charley Chase!
Great film and great song.
The best comic actors ever!!
Potessi entrare nel film di stanlio e ollio in i figli del deserto nel 33 pensa che bello
Great Clip!!!
Subtile moves, maximum expression.
Love it.

That's Ty Parvis singing, in case anyone wondered, lol. Nice voice and very appropriate for this kind of music and the era.
La première fois que j'ai vu cette scène...je me suis pissé de rire.... belle musique en plus....👍🍻🎶🎺🎵🎹🎼🎸🎤

@bigbirdvinny a truly class act. the ending of this movie was very funny.
2019 baby!
So brilliant and totally camp! Lovin' it!
Die unvergessen Oliver Hardy😥 und Stan Laurel😥 in dem Film; die Wüstensöhne. Honolulu Baby 💋💋
If memory serves me right this song was the 'B' side of the 'Trail of the Lonesome Pine' single record.
The Lead Hula dancer is Charita Alden, true name Evelyn Thorstensen
Fine Song!
Aloha from Hawaii!
Sure! I always thought "Sons of the Desert" was their funniest feature film. Very cool. Fun choreography!
Ale chłopaki się podjarali... 😃🧚♂️
The singer is Ty Purvis and the lead dancer is Chirita or something close to that. Great number and played by LeRoy Shield
+gunvald833 Former dance partner of Betty Grable.
Ty Parvis and Charita Alden!
"Pulled a fast one, eh?" They, along with W.C Fields, are the greatest.
yahoo! 1930s and the dancers are virtually topless! Very risqué for it's time!
Kyrani an Geraghty They are not really virtually topless, they are wearing flesh coloured body tops with bras underneath. They wouldn't have got away with anything so risque on film in those days.
best quote in this film is " two peas in a pod" but all l&H films are classics
My favorite L&H movie. Their in top form here.
The fellow sitting at the table with stan and laurel is charlie chase. He was a star in his own right in the early days of talkies. He might have started in silents but I'm not sure.
I think you mean Stan and Ollie, but you're right about Charlie Chase, a HUGE star of the day with his own series of movies.
Charlie Chase was a silent movie star who was cast in excellent comedy films.
He also made talkie films into the 1930's. But to me his silent movies are best.
(Here in Hololulu he is playing a cameo role)
But he Laurel and Hardy worked for the Hal Roach Studio.
I should have said he plus Laurel and Hardy worked the Hal Roach Studio.
This always cheers me up
You pulled a fast one! Wahaha!!
C'est tout simplement superbe...
anno fatto divertire e ridere generazioni mitici
Car lubi to !
Those "barely-there" bra tops made of mesh and sequins are definitely pre-Code, as are some of those "hula" motions. Oh you Honolulu Baby, you!
They are wearing proper bras under their skinsuits…I can see them. Plus, in those days, they would not have been allowed to go bra-less in a family feature.
I want transported to 1920s Los Angeles.
2018 anyone ☺☺
2019@19 thumbs up. 👍
2020
Numeri eccezionali😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁👍🏻
fine song Aloha from Hawaii
No. This was a feature movie called "Sons of the Desert".

Love it !
I always wondered if the lyrics meant something different than they appear to be... "Strumming on their 'guitars' ", "were'd you get those 'eyes' ", etc.
Very nice :)
BRILLIANT
@MrWomanish the boys shouldn't have lied. it was still a funny scene when the police escorted them to there front door & they pretended to act sad. shiphiked ? thanks for writing. it's always nice to hear from fellow fans.
Great quality clip . Not sure of the year
Fine song
Great !
Meravigliosa
I love this scene so much, so sweet and innocent. Whats funny though is that Honolulu couldn't be whiter 😅
still a fine song
i wonder if this is part of the leroy shields' orchestra.
Wunderbar. Dankeschön.
Lulu not Lula though. Mahalo.
Super !
LOL Be careful... look what happened to Ollie!
DID I DREAM THIS ?
And, who is that second waiter? Charlie Hall, in a bit cameo.
party! hardy!
great still make you laff
I laughed at my own mistake
I haven't watched this film in a while and I thought the man in the glasses was going to break into song
Honolulu
nazwisko tancerzy?
Definately pre-code!
weren't they "shorts" and not "movies" though? Meaning these aren't their feature pictures.
2020
does anyone know the name of the girl which is dancing with singer ty parvis? thx
This is Charity Alden, was born in the Philippines, her true name is Evelyn Thorstensen
What has Mohammed got to do with my wife? Genius.
what the name of the band in this movie
Good old song. And the girls are GIRLS. Not skinny ragdolls like today.
+Robert Gillespie Personally, I think the singing sailor sounds a little gay.
Ty Parvis. Don't know if he was gay, but made a career as a singer.
Possibly could have been a 'flit' as Holden Caulfield would have described him, there was plenty of them in the entertainment business even then.
who is the guy singing and the lady dancing
thank u
+HeavyMetalTurtlez
the guy is ty parvis and the girl is charita alden
I maybe be wrong but I think it's the writer of the song Thomas Marvin Hatley. Google him, young version of him looks like the guy in this video
Ty Parvis as the sailor
lyrics????
What the name of the singer
what's the name of the singer?
Ty Parvis, the dancer is Charita, it was her only film role.
Thomas Marvin Hatley. If you google him, the young version of him looks like the dancer. He wrote music scores for L & H
bennyguitarcarr
Thank you very much! :)
Just say you're going to a "convention."
No bras. Yes!
Honolulu Wednesday
She asked what part and i said ALL of me
