honestly I'd just build close by like a trainyard/airfield/junkyard type monument, you can run the road or boat farm too and get a good amount of kits easily

I've played official plenty and I can definitely say it is just slower, less bases to raid and way less exciting. Id much rather play on a zerg server v other zergs

after wipeday people roam for 1-2 days and then leave for next wipe
