Obvious reply, but all the best to you and glad that this helped. Nobody's depression is the same (sorry, people who say, "Oh, I've been there, I understand" - you understand your own, not mine) and people deal with it differently (music, Skyrim etc) Hope you are well :)
@@CookieChacho there are different causes with different set of symptoms but depression does have a general profile, it's not always different person to person, a lot of people can share very similar experiences with depression. most people diagnosed with MDD have anhedonia, low motivation, and a sense of futility or they feel like they are a failure, those are the most prevalent symptoms.
This is my winter snow day song. Ever since I was a teenager when this album came out, and I saw SY at the Moor Theater in Seattle, they played this..I like to put this on in my headphones and go for a walk in the snow. No matter where I am, I listen to this and it makes me cold. Crisp air, grey skies, snow, Sonic Youth. I love winter. ❄️
Does seem like a good time & place to partake in this song. Gotta love Lee's (underutilized!) voice here. If you are ever looking for other good tunes to play for winter walks, I would recommend Bardo Pond's half-hour drone of muffled beauty, "Amen 29:15" ua-cam.com/video/6A-F6ZNUlZY/v-deo.html
Lee Ranaldo's voice and poetic lyrics are out of this world. If you listen carefuly, you can imagine that "couple standing in the snow" going nowhere..
I love this song. I love this album. I love Lee Ranaldo. I just realized this video existed the other night. The beautiful video is even shot by Lee. As if all of this is not enough, Lee put footage from one of my favourite films in it. For anyone curious, at :31 that is footage from Akira Kurosawa's Dreams (specifically the "Weeping Demon" segment). Great film. Great song.
It's Lee and his wife making a trip to Value Village (and some other non-landmarks) in and around the St. James neighbourhood in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. His wife's from there, I believe.
Lee´s got a voice similar to Michael Stipe. Whenever i hear him singing, i always imagine REM on that level they never reached. And i say this in a positive way.
A very beautiful song were music, voice and lyrics are so well balanced, that the final result is more than music: images, poetry, meaning. Thanks Sonic Youth
Lyrics I put my feet deep in the tracks that you made Walked behind you off into the wood We'll know where when we get there' you said And we both knew we would High above like a spider The colors turning brown Freeways passing by us I took yr hand and we knelt down Wheels paddle wheels paddle movement as we go Trees passing trees passing signs along the road A view through the trees to a couple in the snow A view through the trees to a couple standing in The snow Suddenly the trees were flashing by us Clouds reflecting fast across your eyes We turned into a frozen meadow The wind the only sound We'll know where when we get there' you said We'll know where when we get there' you said
I love this song with all my heart. I suffer depression since i was a kid...i remember how deep i cry listening this song on repeat mode...i was just teen years old. Every time i listen to this i feel more in peace. Thanks lee ranaldo.
I did catch the Thousand Leaves tour! It was epic! Saw them at the Moor Theater in Seattle. My friend and I waited out back for SY to come out and Thurston let us take his picture. They were really nice. That was the same night that someone stole their gear. They had one of a kind irreplaceable instruments. Still, an amazing show. I will never forget.

Definitely, Sonic Youth is not merelly a nice band...They have some magic that stands out from common rock bands...This song gets me to another dimension.

Good call! I hadn't noticed that. Though this was already one of my favorite tracks on A Thousand Leaves, it just became one of my favorite tracks of all time because of this.
For your help this some answer from Thurston Moore himself: In the same interview, Moore explained the band's emergent songwriting process. "We're basically very kind of anarchistic when we write and we just allow anything to happen and then we'll sort of modify it until we think it's good. We're interested in pop song structures, so we'll do something that you wouldn't believe could be used in a pop song structure but we think it could be."
It's sad to say but the best song in a thousand leaves are either from Thurston or Lee. Kim's singing becomes a little bit annoying after a while, and that's why I love SY but I'm not a hardcore fan because of her sometimes ruining the mood of the songs. Yeah she's pretty bizarre and authentic when it comes to lyrics but apart from that she doesn't achieve the emotion of Thurston's or Lee's
Went to listen to this song on Spotify today, saw that they had removed 1k Leaves album. Guess that means that people IRL will be removed. The inconvenience of having to switch from Spotify to UA-cam to listen to this song is worth the extinguishment of a few existences.
This song was one of the songs that got me through the worst depression of my life. Thank you Sonic Youth and Mr Lee Ronaldo.

this piece is deep..

Sonic Youth capture that psychedelic dream sound so well.
Yeah I wonder about that. It is amazing.

He's the Sonic's George Harrison

Yes, Leah Singer is from Winnipeg. Winnipeg is an amazing city. I'm from New World Island (Newfoundland) and I lived in the Peg for a few years.
0:32 to 0:41 I’m pretty sure is footage from Akira Kurosawa’s DREAMS (the Mount Fiji in Red segment I think)
Love the multi-dimensional harmonics and sound!!
yes yes so beautiful!
Great song, especially during winter
Been listening to this for 20 plus years and just now realized how much like a heartbeat the drum sounds.
This is one of the very best reflective SY tunes, with beautiful images and somehow always makes me feel happy-sad.
Beautiful song. Great portrait of quiet winter in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Its so quiet but so powerful.
Lee´s got a voice similar to Michael Stipe. Whenever i hear him singing, i always imagine REM on that level they never reached. And i say this in a positive way.
And for me is the same but with Greg Lake.
Lee Ranaldo is always spot on when singing.
Exceptional! Even the music video transmits some sort of feels can't even be explained.

One of my favourite SY songs ever. Love it so much. Great video too, very evocative.
I'm sad when this song ends

Beautiful song, one I always come back to
bit of a New Order bass vibe in this one
The song's about a couple who was abducted by aliens. Kind of Sonic Youth meets X Files and parties with Twin Peaks.
Love this band for a long time now, they revolutionised Music!
Most underrated band in the world.
they're very famous
Pedro not famous enough
In Germany at least. nobody knows them here. I literally met only 5 people who did (know them)

Sometimes I think stupid things too, don't feel to bad.
Well, expecially in their late records she begins to sound a bit annoyng. I think you're right.
SY are the other Planet, amazing and genius, lee ranaldo my favourite youth too
The music of the dreams. Sonic life forever.
