- After the huge success of our video: iPhone Hack to Wake up as Iron Man! We created & crafted an updated version with a bunch of new features and adjustments. With this iPhone Hack we use the shortcuts app to create the custom shortcut to wake up with the Voice of Siri and with your favorite music or sound. With this updated version we will go a bit more in depth about the shortcut. For example now we have connected a calendar & meetings to the iPhone Voice. And we will also for example show you how to change the voice.
It looks complex but it's actually fairly simple. An iPhone Hack you most definitely know and share with your close ones.
So here is how to use your iPhone to wake up like Iron Man or Tony Stark version 2.

This tutorial would be more useful if it addressed some of the problems users are facing. This shortcut works pretty well for me, here's what I did:
1. The delay between the alarm and siri talking is mainly due to your wifi speed and the complexity of the shortcut. While you cannot completely get rid of the delay, you can drastically reduce it (in his video, there's a 7s delay between the alarm vs Siri talking) whereas I've got mine down to about 2.5s and it sounds great. The more steps / processing the shortcut has to do (e.g. finding calendar events) the longer it takes to run. I just kept the weather + birthday part of the shortcut and it runs much faster. Secondly, you will see a difference running this shortcut on 4G/5G versus wifi. If your phone is connected to fairly fast wifi, it runs much more quickly.
2. The reason the alarm sound (song) becomes very quiet and barely audible when Siri starts speaking is because most of us have this iOS setting called 'Attention Aware Features' turned on by default. This means when Face ID recognizes you looking at the phone, it automatically lowers alert volume. Go to settings > Face ID & Passcode > Attention Aware Features (scroll down) and turn it OFF. You will no longer face this problem.
3. Your iPhone has 2 kinds of volume; Media volume (this is the volume of your music, youtube, apps) and Ringtone / Ringer volume (this is the volume of your alarm, notification, phone ringing sounds). In his shortcut, he has a step called 'Set Media Volume to 80%'. So when this shortcut runs, it automatically sets your phone's media volume to 80%. I tested this and it doesn't seem like it affects Siri's voice level so personally I deleted this step from the shortcut.
However, I did change something else. By default, IOS allows you to use the volume buttons (on the side of your phone) to change both ringer volume and media volume (depending on what you're doing). I recommend changing this by going to Settings > Sound & Haptics > Change with Buttons and turn it OFF. Now right above that, on the volume scale, set your ringtone (alarm) volume to whatever you want (I set it at maximum because it's loud enough for an alarm).
Now when you run the shortcut, it will be MUCH better. Your alarm will start loud but once Siri starts speaking, it will reduce the alarm sound just a little (not too much like you see in the video) and you'll be able to hear Siri quite clearly as well while the music plays in the background.
4. If your shortcut is not running when your alarm goes off it's because you skipped the automation step. Follow his instructions from 5:50 - 6:10 of the video. You want the automation to RUN IMMEDIATELY (so select this option because he accidentally said something else in his instructions). This is how you ensure your alarm will trigger the shortcut automatically.

@@ak47968 really was awesome tips, so thanks for spending the time to do it - ive played around with mine and even added a sentence about my first meeting. But the speaking part sometimes stutter (like skips a bit) on the last 5 seconds, so you know why or have you had it? I think it might be when signal is low - but it still does it when I’m on WiFi, seems to maybe skip WiFi and only use mobile data?

You can change the setting to make it start at the start of the alarm, when the alarm is snoozed, or when the alarm is switched off. So I would think you just set it up to work when you switch off the alarm?

Hey Niels, I really like the short cut. I had a few questions. Firstly, How did you get this to play with you alarm? For me its not connecting and only plays when I hit the play button in the shortcuts app. Secondly, I am not able to get any music at all. How do i correct this? Thanks!

You can't set the custom tone to your wake up alarm, unfortunately. There is a work around though, so if you go to that automation and click into the When category. You'll have the alarms section (Any, Wake-Up, and Existing) Click Existing and you can set it to play during multiple specific alarms. For example a specific alarm for Mon-Fri and a separate one for Sat-Sun. Hope this helps

you touched on everything but the actual voice volume, is that done through accesability by any chance? Siri is very loud for me when she starts to speak and will probably jump out of the bed if i leave her on 100% like this. The media volume only controls the sound of the music playing in the background, not siri.

I hat the same problem before I tried it on my other phone… you need to be on IOS 16.8 or higher to have the option to play the voice over the music. On my older phone I’m only on IOS 15.8 so I don’t have that option

When you setup the Automation for “Alarms” pick “Existing” instead of “Any” and choose the alarm/alarms you wish to have the sound of the shortcut.

Solution: if you set the amount of alarms selected in the automation to 1 it is fixed. The more you select the more buggy it gets.
