I think is because Ruyi could be a Han, because in the beginning of the drama she was earing a side braid, meanwhile the others girls had ther hair tied up, you could search for the difference between Han and Manchu in the Qing Dynasty

Is yanxi palace a sequel to this or are they completely different, I know they r both in the same palace though.
This isn’t a sequel but a different show about the same Emperor and his wives. This show is about the 2nd Empress from Yanxi palace
Same timeline. Roles are reversed. For example the main girl in Yanxi is the main villain in here while, here Ruyi who played a villain in Yanxi is the main
Two separate shows not related in terms of plot Yanxi palace is from a fictional novel. This one is based on China's take on Chinese history where Ruyi isn't a venomous snake like she was portrayed in Yanxi palace.
