as long as the charge/discharge current that goes in/out of the bank isn't that high, i think putting the lead on the same side won't be a big of a problem, but i do made the lead on the different side just for the theory sake, because i have smaller battery bank, 3s, 7p, that has the lead on the same side and when it charging more than 0,3C, the cell that closest to the lead warmed up while the cell on the end of the lead is still stone cold, and all of that is the same new cell with the same capacity and i do test all of them beforehand, that's why i made the lead on the opposite side on my bigger powerwall

I think batteries including my Lead Acid ones that run my home, and my tiny 18650 nine cell stand alone garden solar lighting system. Batteries enjoy Off-Grid life when treated well, and I think it is because generally speaking charge currents are kept low and charging is regular, they are gently cycled everyday, I have had the odd Lead Acid go bad and try and drain the rest, but they were years old when I got them in the scrap, and many pass the yearly health check and are in better condition than when I got them.
My nine 18650 pack were all totally dead out of some old scooter battery pack, I had to use a nine volt PP3 to wake them up so that my charger would actually recognise them has viable and charge them back up. A year on and they are all doing great lighting up the garden during the shitiest of UK December evenings, they charge from a large solar panel through a 10 Amp 5 Volt regulator block, I went overkill, every cell has a BMS and a thermostat disconnect above 40 degrees and an old fridge stat disconnects the charge below freezing. I am going to be building some large 18650 blocks.

Physics wise, it makes sense to me. All the higher voltage ones, charge the lower voltage ones, resulting in all of them being balanced out and equal.

That doesnt make any sense. They were in series so one pack cant charge or discharge another pack
