Alpine Descent | Alpabzug Switzerland | Swiss tradition | Swiss village festival | Desalpe

At the end of summer each year the alpine villages of Switzerland celebrate the descent of farm animals and their herders coming to the valley from the mountains where they have spent an accident free summer.
The festival is celebrated with much fun fare in most alpine villages in Switzerland with traditional food, music and the community coming together to celebrate.
It reminded me of Maatu Pongal (thanks giving to the cows, that helped in the harvest), a festival celebrated in Tamil Nadu, India where I come from.
Alpabzug / Alpine descent is turning out to becoming one of my favourite Swiss tradition to experience each year.
