Mr. Taiwo and Team (or even another committee) should endeavor to educate citizens on how VAT will be attributed to the place of supply and consumption and not necessarily the place of remittance - an apparently herculean task (or another project on its own) that is likely to attract serious resistance from relevant product/service providers that are to supply data and information for its implementation and success.
Return the system to regional system of governance. Most of the FG investment is centered on Lagos, whenever FG seek for foreign investor is always Lagos, so others States cannot compete. Return the system to regional system of governance, so that no State will be favoured like Lagos.
We will soon start hearing the cries of Nigerians cheering this tax reform when they start paying more VAT. I presently pay ₦225.537 for 1kwh of Band A electricity tariff with a 7.5% VAT. Tinubu is increasing VAT to 10% in 2025 & 12.5 in 2026. Meanwhile, all these monies are to service the lifestyle of Politicians & Tinubu's overbloated Cabinet & retinue of SAs.
Tax law is always a working instrument for the govrnment different from PIB and even after passing it brought problems for Nigerians like making NNPCL so powerful and untouchable. That power given to the NNPCL is preventing the price of fuel to be affodable. Or how can we justify a regulator still engaging in buying and selling fuel?
So even the House representative members are still having questions regarding some part of the bill talkless of ordinary Nigerians. Some people are just turning blind eyes to rush this bill. Let's have clearity on this bill first before passing. Reading the bill is ine thing and understanding is another thing. If two judges can read clause in the constitution and give different verdict then this bill needs to be explain by the drafters. Indeed the bill is a good thing for Nigerians but consultation and negotiation is needed, so the bill cannot be thrown out completely.
The bill should be passed, there’s no reason to slow it, it is for the progress of everyone, the northern politicians should stop sponsoring insecurity, let them create enabling environment for investors and production, enough of monkey working and bamboo eating
This is just VAT sharing they are arguing about. The current VAT Borno and most Northern states are getting is small. The changes 20 percent equal among the states 20 percent based on population 60 percent deriviation. You keep 60 percent of all of the VAT accrued from your state. No more collection based on headquarters. Kano will get more VAT. For a state like Borno. They will get 20 percent plus extra based on population and then they get to keep all of the 60 percent they collected from VAT. This will encourage more economic activity.
Sharing by location of consumption is not explicitly on the bill. If the bill is passed, Lagos State for example can go to court to seek interpretation of Sec. 77 of the Tax Administration Bill and they will win.
So how dose this bill provide jobs for the unemployed around Nigeria, do you expect them to pay this Tax while they don't have job's to even survive in the first place
Don't mind those cheering this tax reform. We'll soon hear cries from them when they start paying more VAT. Tinubu almost killed us with taxation in Lagos. Before him we paid Tenement rate until he came with his Land Use Charge. I pay ₦225.537 for 1kwh of Band A electricity tariff with a 7.5% VAT. Tinubu is increasing VAT to 10% in 2025 & 12.5% in 2026 & later 15%
@peoplestribute7491 your level of ignorance is immeasurable, can you listen to yourself? Do you think that you are paying your electricity bills to government? Let nigeria 🇳🇬 breathe.
Tax Reform Bills... Nigerians in the North should ask their governors what they do with the monthly financial allowance given to each state, and whether it reaches the people?? Illiteracy, mass (unproductive) population and under-development (which has existed before the nation's independence in 1960) of the North haven't helped the matter. Also, 80% of Nigerian wealth was stolen by Northern politicians, esp. by those from the Sharia belt of North West and East. LESSER MEN that haven't contributed anything/less to the nation's purse, less educated, etc, BUT they want to control the country and rule (Fulanis... not even Nigerians, enabled by the Hausa Muslims) in the midst of GREATER MEN. Think about...
Northerners are very mad 😡 If that Bill is not pas everybody should go northerners are greedy federal government has all his presence in every part of north and Lagos, where all those money is coming from has no federal government presence airport sea port Moden train terminals capital city, name then many good road, costal road starts from Lagos and Abuja why where the money is coming from is not included thunder fire 🔥 the north and west , south south and southeast where you get your revenue is in a death Zoon
Don't focus on only that. Tinubu is increasing VAT & we will pay more for services. We will soon start hearing the cries of Nigerians cheering this tax reform when they start paying more VAT. Some of the Reps didn't read the bill . Some of them are ready to do the hard work of reaching.
They made a u-turn.

Looks like the host aligns more with those taking part by Zoom.
Lagos is what it is because of FG presence, not because of leadership. River because of of the presence of oil companies.
You forgot to mention Calabar. Didn't have FG presence.
Rivers is because of Oil what of Akwa Ibom and Delta States?.
They're talking as if they really care about the people they are talking about
So how dose this bill provide jobs for the unemployed around Nigeria, do you expect them to pay this Tax while they don't have job's to even survive in the first place
Just continue listen. You don't understand what's going on.
Your level of ignorance is alarming.
