When I say that Hitler's agression threatened the democracy- I mean the cummulative time period of democracy SINCE the 1st Republic till Hitler's agression. Sorry, the AI subtitles spelled "Sites" as "Sights" in the video ( just noticed that), I really do know the difference! I tried to catch some of the Ai misspellings, and there are a couple. Sorry. LOL Have you ever been to Czechia? Or even Chechnya for that matter? Let me know!
I can remember when Czechoslovakia was a country--but I guess 32 years ago is ancient history for some people. I first met a Czech family who had immigrated to America in 2005. That was the first time I ever heard anyone refer to the Czech Republic as Czechia. It struck me as weird at first, but I quickly picked it up for the sake of economy.
Czech government: "stop calling us Czech republic, we wanna be called Czechia!!" Five years later: "why are people confusing us with Chechnya?" I think your politicians caused this confusion themselves, when they told the English speaking world to stop calling the country Czech republic. No-one had this confusion ten years ago.

fun fact: back in the times of Chechen wars some Russians used to call Chechens exactly "чехи" (czechs) for a shorter term and as a slang word.
That's interesting, my Czech family said they didn't know that. Thanks for the info!
interesting

Thank you for this detailed review of history and explanation. And yes Czechs are not Chechens.
I really admire the Czech people and their resilience.

Just call it Czeska.
That's a great alternative!
What educated person mixes these two up????
You'd be surprised...But I think the operative word here is "educated."
