Have thoroughly enjoyed your vids over the year, much appreciated, must be hard work both filming and competing. you've taught me a few things . Prefer using the braid when pleasure fishing . Will occasionally use braid in our matches but only when close in , its respect to the others around you. Look forward to your efforts next yr.
After a 20 year haitus, I returned to sea fishing using braid 100% of the time. Will never go back mono. No downsides with braid for me. A revelation. No disrespect to mono users 😊 Thank you for making and sharing you videos. Season's greetings.
Great video pete. I use 45lb braid to 60lb shock 98% time. Only times i use mono is in very windy conditions if other anglers are around or structures like groans. A few times a big westerly gust of wind forms a big bow and your braid goes round a wooden groan. Game over.
Great video. Braid on the right day/conditions but 95% mono for me for the reasons below. Did like Charlie Needham's Zziplex shelter. I've got one just like it 😂
My thoughts Braid Advantages: Low diameter to strength ratio so better distance and less drag in tide Bite detection, you see everything straight away Disadvantages Leads can get pulled out easily due to no stretch in line Fish can get knocked off on the way in due to no stretch in line Joining braid to shock leader can be a challenge with some knots failing (your can get round this by using the right knot) If you snap off the bloody stuff stays in the water for years causing snags Not good for person sitting next to you as will cut through mono like knife through hot butter Can fuck rod guides up if not suited to braid Can get issues with wind knots when blowing inland I use heavy braid straight through on river fishing sometimes 50lb In short I don’t use it on the beach
Good video, with no filming, I’m sure you would have won. Learning lots from your videos. Just won our club championship using braid 100% of the time ☺️😉🎣
@@pondpetefishing9976 No problem pal, I’m in Cumbria with lots of rough ground and good tide run, I’ve won lots of club and league matches with knowing you have fish on with braid and that may and does gain me several extra casts and hence a few more fish, I’m doing awesome on your boom rigs ☺️
@@JohnFisher-s1e Brilliant mate . Most of the time we are on clean beaches . I f I were on your marks , I would use the braid all the time . I’m doing something wrong though as in a rough sea , I find the waves break the lead out . Rod too stiff I wonder ? . I’m glad to hear you have tried the booms . I’ve had a lot of fish on them😀. I thought it would have all been pulley rigs and codling for you bud ? . Really appreciate your feedback 👍
Hi Pete have enjoyed your videos since I discovered them thank you , The question of braid cutting through mono I find interesting I regularly boat fished for 30 years and never came across it and have used braid from the beach for the last 15 years when there is a lot of tide or when needing to fish a long range and not had a problem, only real problem I have had is fishing braid on two rods and the weed has picked up one crossing the other .As a experiment I tide a .3 mono between two chairs and see sawed a 50lb braid over the mono at one point it broke at 1minute 23 seconds but I think the mono melted rather that the braid cut through. I have always thought this Braid cuts through mono a bit of a red herring poss. the multiplier boys not wanting to be at a disadvantage, Braid you see bites at long rang, it sits in the tide better and on a fixed spool casts further I used Tapered mono leader 15lb/50lb on to fireline braid around 30lb, most leaders are 14 metres long so flexible when the fish are in the surf ,50lb braid straight through in weedy conditions. I use mono 15lb, 50lb leader when fishing close in up to say 70 yds where a bite on braid at that distance is sometimes to savage giving tenancy to miss the fish
Brilliant feedback mate I have never cut through a mono line with braid either. The video is discussing the points made to me . I have had anglers use braid next to me and pull me in however and when the rigs spin up it’s been a nightmare to untangle so I personally don’t use it in matches so as not to aggravate the anglers next to me . Also I was using 65lb whiplash and a leader . I don’t think that would cut anyone off easily. The anglers reporting the problem had anglers using braid as low as 12lb with a shock leader . I can see how a braid that thin could cause problems. Going forward I have decided to use mono in matches purely to keep the peace. Also I feel so much more confident that I will land a lightly hooked bass having pulled the hook on a couple in the surf with braid. The discussion will probably never end but I hope I have managed to explain the video
Hi Pete the best boat angler I have ever had the pleasure of fishing with told me you cut down your chances of catching Bass if you use a braid leader always use a mono leader, hence I use a mono leader whether on the beach or boat except for really weedy conditions , Really thin braid been there done that to many things like wind knots for me hence the 30lb Whiplash its still a lot thinner than 15lb mono. You are right about tangles re braid and mono I usually unclip my trace cut off the tangle in my braid and retie the leader or out with the spare rod , I think a lot of the problems between Mono and Braid is how they sit in the tide just like boat fishing mono will catch the tide more and pull into a much larger loop than braid and maybe why mono does not give as good as bite indication at distance as braid
@@tonygeal3157 I have to agree with everything you have taken the time to write . Thanks for following my efforts. I won’t get it right all the time and there are many better than me but I hope you and others enjoy what I manage to do . 👍

That was the muts nuts pete. Look forward to seeing the rest. Take care and stay safe mate. Tom.

Nice one Pete great watch 👍
I can't get on with the braid, tried it on my lure rod. Its a nightmare mate never again lol.
All the best 🖖

Nice vid...thankyou for all tbe others. Have a nice Christmas....mono for me off the beach....braid on the feeder in the river.....
Sounds perfect 👌

My thoughts
Braid
Advantages:
Low diameter to strength ratio so better distance and less drag in tide
Bite detection, you see everything straight away
Disadvantages
Leads can get pulled out easily due to no stretch in line
Fish can get knocked off on the way in due to no stretch in line
Joining braid to shock leader can be a challenge with some knots failing (your can get round this by using the right knot)
If you snap off the bloody stuff stays in the water for years causing snags
Not good for person sitting next to you as will cut through mono like knife through hot butter
Can fuck rod guides up if not suited to braid
Can get issues with wind knots when blowing inland
I use heavy braid straight through on river fishing sometimes 50lb
In short I don’t use it on the beach

The bites are amazing, even from the little dabs 👍
