Great info, and congrats! I live in South Park CO and ALWAYS carry a tarp specifically for hail. i was caught in a flash flood 15 mi from my house in a mix of rain and hail for 20 minutes, which left 2 ft of water/hail slush on the road and several areas of landslides and 1-2' boulders in the road. There were no trees or rocks to shelter where I was caught. I only had a light summer wind vest and had bruises from the marble to ping-pong ball sized hail on my arms and legs. I've also been blown over or off the road several times due to gusty winds common in the west. I've learned to pay attention to the weather and seek shelter early, before the storm hits. Usually it is not that bad, but you just don't know.

Thank you for the insight of your trip afterwards! I will go and Do the GDMBR next year from about July 1st. I will be retired than and almost 67. I have extended touring (recumbent) experience and this will be the first time backpacking on a travelbike! (Sonder pinion titanium broken road) I am looking forward to this adventure gigantic. Every UA-cam video is giving me some more inspiration and information. This time:…. I have the time on my hand, so much less pressure! Will you post any video of the GDMBR on UA-cam? I will start north and go southbound.

All the UA-cam videos certainly help especially those like Matt. Humble and loveable! I also retiring, at 62, in 1 year from this week. My attempt will begin week 2 of July. Maybe see you out there!
