- This video is at least two things. Cy Swan making a knife: • 3 Hour Damascus Knife
First it is a 30,000 foot perspective on the history and process of making Damascus steel.
Second, it is an introduction to Cy Swan, my blacksmithing partner and a most remarkable man. There is a world of detail concerning both the steel and the man that will be addressed in future videos, so stay tuned!

Nice! You're lucky to know that man!
Great video. I've said it before, but I'll say it again. your channel is a hidden gem on youtube.
What an amazing man Cy is. Wish society would have half his skill and drive. Thanks for sharing.
"I am lucky to know him."
Outstanding video - would love to see more of Mr. Swan at work. Youngest eighty years old I have ever seen.
wow, no offense to you, i thought you were an amazing craftsman. But it must be incredible to have a chance to know that man. it brings tears to my eyes just imagining the things he's done and the knowledge he has. And that shop is beautiful. i bet he knows where every last thing is. thank you for your amazing videos
When I find a channel that I like I go back and start with the earliest video, which I've done with yours. The joy of working together with your sons really shows, videos are consistently getting better ! GOOD STUFF !!
that cannon is worth a video all by itself. tell that story if you have a chance.
im 59 and id love to hang around his shop and learn his knowledge.love your channel
Great vid! Once in a lifetime we get to know amazing persons like this man. Please upload more videos of him...
This is the best channel. Please keep cranking out videos. These are so well done and fascinating. Thank you.
The opportunity to witness an expert craftsman applying his skill is priceless. Thanks for sharing.
That shop reminds me of my grandfather's shop. He was a country farmer with a small blacksmith shop to keep his equipment working. That's where I got my start in engineering, when I was about 5. That was 51 years ago. I could work in that shop all day without a break. Cy's shop while much better outfitted than my grandfather's has the same attraction.
After watching a number of your videos, I think you could have a whole series on Cy and never run out of material. Thank you for helping us get to know Cy.
definatley need some of the stories from Cy's shop. Love the videos guys!
Well done once again Scott. The video of the drive in to Cys place was an excellent addition, it adds spice, it brings the viewer into the setting. Personal touches like that, and close up views of the task you are explaining, change this from dry instruction to a more intimate portrait. I think we feel we are there with you, and your warm narration makes us feel welcome. Your son is doing a great job behind the scenes. I look forward to working with you on a project in a couple of months.
I would love to see a video series chronicling a blacksmithing project from start to finish, whatever that project might be.
Thank you for that nice peak into your friends shop. it's great to hear about a person that inspires you. I would love to see more of you and him if he is willing to participate in your channel.
It's a great feeling when you enter a shop like Cy's.
Thanks EC. Your narration and explanation, your son's editing, and more Cy would spell dynamite viewing during long Canadian winters.
