Hey Frank, good to see you still showing off the ramen. Watched you with Tabi Eats and the Ramen bowls you guys showcased looked amazing. I wish we had access to the real deal here in the states. I want to try them all.
Thanks for watching! We're very spoiled here in Tokyo with all ramen options. You'll have to visit in the future to try them all 😊 (when it's OK to travel again).
£40 for 4 imported from Japan to UK.🤔 had the real thing at Nakyru last year and was unbelievable and that was £6.
Maybe worth a trip to Japan again next year.
While nothing beats the real thing, it's still amazing how close they get them to the real thing. I'm gonna set up an online shop for instant ramen soon myself.
If travel's resumed next year, I'm sure the lines at Nakiryu will be much shorter!

Have never had the original, but this is close to the best instant ramen i've ever had. So need one now!!!
Yes - they took this instant ramen very seriously and it shows, doesn't it? When travel is OK again it would be great if you could swing by the actual shop.

Wow i just discovered your channel. I love all things ramen, i love all things in Japan too. This channel is the best of everything i love. Too bad there are only a handful of good ramen shops in the Philippines

Superb video, Frank. Both ramen look excellent, but I give the nod to the soup-less version … just a preference at this moment (which is constantly changing).
Haircut … star quality as well. Enjoy the fact that it makes you look "fifteen years old now" … one day you'll wake up and find you're sixty years old now and say to yourself "WTF Happened??"

Both are indeed excellent and I know what you mean about preferences constantly changing! Sometimes I have phases as to ramen styles. Haha thanks, re the haircut. When that day comes I'll make sure there's ramen nearby to ease the blow 😂.

Another awesome review, thank you Frank. Have you considered a "Lockdown Live Stream collaboration" - perhaps with Tabieats?
You could choose the instant ramen available at your local konbini store, and suggest the same for Satoshi and Shinichi, so that they can buy the same from their local konbini. Then you live stream the tasting and comparing of notes.
You could repeat the format with many other youtube channels too.
Maybe stream it on a separate 5am ramen channel, 5am live or similar.

I got the tantanmen in my ramen box and it was sooo good. Out of the 5 I got it was easily the no 2 only beaten by the miso ramen.

Yep, the soup version of Nakiryu was what I purchased back in 2018. Didn’t know it got updated since then. I’m also now remembering that I messed up with how to add the ingredients when I made it. XD Still tasty, though.

Nakiryu's instant ramen is complicated - I would have messed up myself and that's with reading Japanese!
My biggest regret when leaving japan was not buying more of these to take home. I ate the 3 that I had within a week and now I’m waiting to go back
You'll need to bring a bigger suitcase when Japan's opened up again!

The ramen noodles I had were basically nissin and matuchen chicken or roasted chicken flavor.
I tried a few Indian Maggi but they were too spicy.
In 2007, I think I had a few ramen from the Asian market we went to. I don't recall the brands.
I've bought soba noodles by themselves and just ate them.
Those packet ones are most basic but also hit the spot when you're in a pinch!

As someone who has a tantanmen addiction. I want to try both but im leaning to 汁なし担々麺。have you had soupless black sesame tantanmen? I made some a couple weeks ago and it pulled me right back to where I used to live in Japan.
Are these only available at 7-Eleven or can you get them like on Amazon Japan?
The 汁なし was great. Yes, every so often so I do enjoy a good bowl soupless black sesame tantanmen. That's awesome you made the same at home!
I think some individuals on Amazon are selling them. They don't sell it online here so they must be making regular trips to 7-Eleven. Maybe I'll do the same eventually 😊
Ahhhh! I can't believe there is Michelin star instant ramen 😱. I wish this stuff was available in India too 😭.
Yes, it's wonderful they created an instant ramen version! You'll have to visit Japan in the future for it but India of course has amazing food to tie you over in the meantime 😍.
although nakiryu is famous for their tantanmen we don't actually know if that's what the michelin judges ate, their shoyu is also quite good.
True - their shoyu is nice as well! And good point - we may never know what Michelin ate on the day. But my guess it was their tantanmen. They're most proud of the tantanmen and that's likely also why it's available in instant ramen form.
Bought them recently and I hope they're better than my favorite so far the donbei kitsune ramen.

Even though Tsuta is my favorite ramen place I've been to, I think Nakiryu's instant ramen is levels above Tsuta's. Maybe because Tsuta is a more delicate ramen and doesn't translate well to an instant version??? I haven't eaten at Nakiryu in person. Sadly I didn't get the chance when I was in Tokyo the last time.
You'll have to try Nakiryu when you're here! I haven't had Tsuta's instant ramen in so long, I can't recall...but what you said might be the case. I think they stopped selling it.

I’ve tried the soup version, not the dry version. It’s nice but super curious how it stacks up against the real thing, but I just don’t have the inner strength to queue for 2 plus hours. I think that Nakiryu not bringing in a ticket queuing system like Tomita and others is really a lost opportunity. I for one would be happy to play knowing I didn’t have to rip up half a day waiting for a bowl of ramen, regardless of how amazing it might be.
The soupless one is really good too. Definitely doesn't beat the real thing...but for instant ramen, I was really impressed, as I'm sure you were too. While perhaps more artificial tasting, the flavors were there. I know what you mean - introducing the ticket system would be practical. But I think Nakiryu is just old-school in that way (unlike the more business-minded Tomita or Tsuta).
