Great informative video! I appreciate your mention of the Sabian 20” Paragon model. Thanks!

I’m pretty sure it was 1980 when the swish knocker showed up in Buddy’s set. His had 20 holes but all the rivets were removed. He used it primarily as what I called a smash cymbal. Saved for the biggest crashes of the night. A year or two later I found one with no holes. I believe to this day, it was the loudest cymbal ever made. Just ridiculous. I’m sure it’s still in use somewhere. Unless someone ran over it with a freight train or something.… I found an a custom swish with no holes that was similar sounding but not as obnoxiously loud. I’m still quite happy with that one

Yes, I remember him playing at a concert in 1983. My friends all commented on that cymbal the next day, calling it a “gong”.

Interesting video! How would you clasify the rivetless swish knocker or swish that Simon Phillips uses? I believe 24” with a big bell. Im Looking for that cymbal to purchase for ages because it has a great sound. Thanks

I haven't heard about the cymbal you mention. However, i would consider that special order for an endorsing artist. If you can special order a cymbal to your specs, you can get almost anything. It may be a rivetless Swish Knocker, if you're looking for a model name or description.

Mike McCraw simon mentions in a couple of videos that it is an 1979 era cymbal and that by that time when he visited the zildjian factory they had two of these lying around. Sad they are non existing for end customers maybe never released to public. I myself have a 22” swish without rivets. With pressed zildjian stamp 80s? And full black logo. It only says swish on it.

@@Juupke That's one of the benefits of being an endorsing artist; visiting the factory and seeing prototypes and cymbals that there are on very few of! Does your cymbal have the full black logos on both sides?

Mike McCraw yes on both sides its rivetless and says SWISH in bold straight lettering 22” / 56cm it has a smaller round bell. Brilliant finish, Reminds me of an a custom type cymbal. If you send me your email I could send you pictures I never knew what this cymbal was called or what era it is. The seller said it was a zildjian brilliant type cymbal.

Great video. Do you know when the swish cymbal was introduced? I’ve seen photos and videos of Gene Krupa in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s with a cymbal that looks like a 22” Swish cymbal so it must’ve been around in the 1960’s. Someone I know has a 22” I assume Swish since it has only 6 rivers and it doesn’t have any printed Zildjian ink logo .Great video, thanks!

One of the catalogs that Ii have is from 1958 which mentions the Swish cymbal and has a profile illustrated. I also have a black and white instructional authored by Sam Ulano, who ran a drummer school in NYC, which mentions the Swish cymbal, so it is a model which has been in existence since 1958. The intent of this video was to delineate between a 22" Swish and a Swish Knocker which are 2 different cymbals. Thank yo for taking the time to comment!

@@shadowsearcy Thanks for the quick reply Mike. After watching your video I found out the difference between the swish cymbal and Swish Knocker. Sam Ulano! I studied with Sam for over three years. A great teacher and a real character. The last time J saw him was at his I think 90th or 93rd birthday
