I don't know if he ever threw an "English accent" in one of his films- I don't know his filmography well enough. But FYI: In Titanic he- as well as the other actors- used a Trans-Atlantic accent- which included Kate Winslet who is a brit but pushed through a muddled trans-Atlantic which she learned in only a few months before the film... You probably heard that accent many times without thinking about it, it was popular for actors in movies up until the 70's and news media and radio continued to use it for the most part up until the 90's, then it faded for the American Standard we all know and tolerate today. A good example of actor who is famous for their Trans-Atlantic accent is "Orson Welles" and a few of the last major relatively modern actors to use it in their film persona is "Nicolas Cage" and "Keven Spacey" (I know bad example!) and later on in his career but not exclusively "john Travolta"... But yes people often confuse it as a British accent but it is actually American and was meant to bridge the Western English speaking world into an accent that all sides of the "pond"- hence Trans-Atlantic- could know and understand (this includes the Oceana (e.g. Australia, New Zealand etc)...
