The plane is part of ET contribution into the partnership agreement. So it needs to be painted to fly under the new company log. I don’t see the issue here. They are not going to buy brand new planes. Even if they want, after placing order it would take them years to receive it. The fastest to do is bringing resources from all partners and kick off the business. Later , when the business foot the ground and earn profit, can roll into a new level to order new planes for visible market expansion.

If it wasn’t (as you claim) then where is its current location? And what is it doing there? The plane belongs to the Ethiopian fleet and is approximately 10/11 years old. Research shows that at some point it was leased to the Malawian Air similar to what happened in Nigeria. And again returned. We must be careful of defending a government whose policies and dealings are questionable in terms of finances, borrowings etc.

This is a sad day for Nigerian aviation industry - a very sad day. I heard the minister deriding the local carriers that their concern is that Ethiopian airlines will take their business. Apparently, he doesn't see or even care about Nigerian jobs. Ethiopian airlines is already operating like a domestic carrier - going to Abuja, Lagos, Kano and Enugu. Now it has a formal permission to take it all. The status quo is tough enough, now they have to compete against the combined might of the governments of the 1st and 2nd most populous countries in Africa. There's no doubt Ethiopian airlines will create more jobs for their people out of the surely expected revenue from this so called partnership; but expect the local carriers to shed jobs. That apparently doesn't bother Mr Aviation Minister. The question is, why is Nigeria still one country?

The new company is a partnership bn ET and Nigerian public private partners. Under the partnership model, ET brings in some of its assets like planes and expertise to kick off the company. There is nothing wrong with that. The business / market on the ground will dictate later if it can afford to buy its own new planes.
