what I see about those machine's is that you need a tractor , whether it is a straw blower or a feeder

Spread-a-bale? We’ve just got one doesn’t chop up the the straw near as much as a chopper and don’t require a tractor, maybe just a newer forklift

Go for it. We did 10 years ago. Better beds, less straw usage. If you listen to the machine you can tell when it's going to block.. Just hit the bed reverser.
For us, we move cattle out of the pens. It's just something we always done and it keeps the straw off their backs.
Spreading on a windy day is fun.
    Wouldn't be without it now.
Best bet would be if you could get a longer demo to try out the machine. That would help in deciding if it's a benefit to you.

No flat things to stand on? A sure way for more people to get hurt. But hey I'm just an Idiot, that didn't go to school for enough years to come up with that "brilliant" regulation.

So with these silly new designs coming out of no flat edges to stand on, let’s be real you and I are all going to still climb of these things because of the time stress with are under, so now they have just made things far more dangerous when you slip off these sloped edges, people in offices shouldn’t have control over how we should run our farms 😞

Definitely wouldn't be without our bedder...ours is a KV. It saves so much time and uses less straw. Just a tip on loading - I either use a spike and hold the second bale above the horizontal back door, roll it on off the floor once I've cut the net on the side nearest the bedder or roll it off the pallet forks to the rear of the back door once I've cut the net nearest the bedder.
Your shed looks impressive from our side of the valley. The sun was shining off it today...fantastic job 💪

What if the cow gets straw in it's eye. It doesnt have any fingers to get it out, or a mirror handy and it can't ask the cow next to it to help. Im very worried about this Crawford 😂

We have an Emily bale spreader for square bales. Does not have the same throw as one with a knife drum, but the advantage is less dust. Longer straw provides better carrying capacity for larger animals

bedder makes a mess, dust and mold everywhere and stones shooting through the roof I cant agree it uses less straw I on the other hand got problems with deep trenches because of the shorter straw gives you less structure had one sold it happily bedding with my e-loader and a bale grab now

Just going by what I've seen in your videos: time spent on maintenance, machine storage, and hooking it up and blocking a tractor (if theres even one available at all times) just to do the same things (drive bale to shed, drop it in, distribute) with less flexibility doesnt seem like its a good enough time saving for your size operation. Maybe time your manual process minus the steps that are the same with the bedder and see if there's a tangible improvement vs the costs.

I would 100% never go back to a pitch fork now after having a bedder, farming knackers our your body enough as it is without heaving straw around daily, let alone what ots doing to your lungs! Personally I shut the animals back and bed up from the scrape passage, saves having to rev the bedder so hard to get the straw over into the bed, less dust and less straw in the rafters as you say 👍👍

Bought a used 08 reco jeantil this year, used on short wheat, long barley, pit silage, baled chopped, non chopped and tmr. Never blocked it yet. With your shed layout it makes total sense from scrape passage if you want no straw in slurry, if your not bothered, scrape, push up feed then blow over cows eating. Not driving tractor or blower in any muck then and keep yard clean 👌

I've a straw blower on our trioliet mixer wagon that i don't use due to the time it takes and mess it creates and if you smoke aset of belts its a 10 hour job to replace, have had trailed kv and mounted jeantill bedders in past and comes down to can roll out upto 9 bales bedding in time takes mixer to mix 2 batches. But being half way through 1200 bales of outside straw this season if someone offered me a spreadabale i wouldnt turn it away!

I think bedders all look very dusty and from a "stockman" perspective rolling out bales surrounded by cattle gives you opportunity to check cattle for lameness etc

Wouldnt be without our teagle, take 10 minutes max to bed 150 cows with 4 bales a day. would be lost without it. makes so much more use o the straw and leaves a nice fluffy bed. and if you sensible on the spout straw only goes where you want it to :D

Definitely demo a McHale as well . Got one McHale here, wouldnt be without it.
If plan to do shed yourself - so much easier, bed anytime , and saves you in around cattle.
Have about 5k bales through McHale , no problem , round, square, wet or dry .
I'd put it on tractor for one bale if needed bedding now. At current prices saves a nice bit (10-15% on straw)

If you have barns like that, believe me spend one winter with a bedder and you’ll never want to roll bales out again, it’s a faf and waste of time honestly by hand. And to keep the shed’s clean only consists of maintenance!!! So anyways that’s my opinion, I’m sure you’ll make you’re own based on you’re uses for it. Cheers crawford

Bedder is the only machine on farm which gets used every single day. We even have a backup because they usually break at weekends. You are correct about straw everywhere,Just comes down to how many bales you use per day and the time taken. One thing for sure is that once you have one, you;lll never do it manually again...

We had a straw chopper on demo and I felt it made way to much mess and dust plus if there’s a stone or stones in the bales off straw what’s it going to hit? And I felt bedding cattle buy hand you can also look at the cattle and notice if any off them need attention. We didn’t end up buying one. 😊
