Thanks Holly. It’s definitely still an important topic. And felt right asking Sophie’s take on it, as she’s been in both positions as a woman and returning mother. Glad you enjoyed this episode.
I would say a good understanding of photography, be it film or digital would give you a great base to understanding the different aspects of what goes into putting an image together. I would also recommend basic exercises like collage, matte painting. All of these, help to give a great start to understanding and getting into compositing. I’d recommend you watch our EP50 to have a reference to you question answered.
Degree isn’t usually so important when it comes to VFX, however it helps to definitely have it, as it gives employers a quick understanding when reviewing CV’s that you have some understanding of the principles. You are usually judged on merit of your showreel, but I would say doing a degree is a personal choice but it has both pros and cons.
Great insightful episode, great to see you discussing mothers working as artists in the Industry and how they can return.
