2020-05 - Automatic bell siphon

Automatic bell siphon is simulated by OpenFOAM to demonstrate the interesting hydraulic of siphon effect.
Here are two sources that I learnt this interesting siphon from. The first link below gives a clear explanation of how this automatic bell siphon works. The second link is from my colleague who used OpenFOAM to simulate a 2D bell siphon.

Siphon effect gives an impression that water can flow up and leave the container. When my wife first saw this simulation, she puzzled and it took me some time to explain to her.
Siphon effect is used in other hydraulic structures, such as siphon spillway. You can appreciate how smart the hydraulic engineers are in applying hydraulic principles in real life. Here is the link to my previous siphon spillway simulation.
