You chose a beautiful, unspoiled part of Poland. Plenty to see there, too, plus excellent food. It was always a poor part of Poland, no fertile soil, so they had to be creative with what they grew.
Conzentration camp Treblinka is in the area, as well as naturalized Muslim Tatars, living since XVII centuries in Kruszyniany, on the Belarussian border.

Smaller places are more cozy and charming. I live just outside Krakow and to be honest i moved from the city because of the people. Too much for my taste

Don't get us wrong, Podlasie is very beautiful with many forests and wildlife. Probably the healthiest region in Poland. But in such winter, with no snow, rainy and gloomy... You must be kind of introvert.
