@@chrisnix7981 Thank you My Nix, Watching It Now.. God bless you and the Team 🙂
Welcome back team !
The odd design of the Leslie Green station building was because above it on the roof was the train sidings and repair sheds for the mainline station.
The tiles at the lift shafts were replaced in the mid 20s with Holden tiles when the Northern line arrived (sorry Siddles, the Northern arrived in September 1926, not 1915, which was the Embankment loop across the river). It's probable that one lift was taken out of service at this time (so escaping the Holden tiles), but the remaining were taken out in 1973. However, the wooden lift paneling remained there until the demolition for the Eurostar terminus around 1989 onwards and you could pass these in order to get from the station to York road.
You can also see the station in action from the 1928 film "Underground" by Anthony Asquith, it shows the escalators, platforms and lifts of the station. If you can get over how corny the acting is, it's an enjoyable watch regarding the station.
Look forward to the coming episodes.
Thanks Anthony. Good to be back. Yes Siddy did make a date slip - none of us clocked it at the time but I did in the edit so I did add a date correction aston precisely as she says it.
Thanks heavens you're back. I was getting fed up and bored.
It's been 83 years....... Welcome back gang!!
So great to have you guys back! All that was missing from this video was The Kinks "Waterloo Sunset" playing in the background. Congrats to Siddy!
I know it's called "hidden london", but we didn't expect you to go into hiding 😅
😂😂😂 be careful what you wish for! You may never get rid of us!
@@alexgrundon2346 Do you promise!
If it's not sunny and mild outside. You might as well be exploring. 😉
Currently visiting London for the first time, and it is pretty cool that I know things about the tube from these videos that I wouldn’t otherwise!
Great to see you back! It’s been a long wait, but well worth it. Waterloo is amazing and you made me laugh loads. The chemistry between you 4 is brilliant. Congratulations to Siddy too!😂❤
Great you are all back again plus secrets of London underground on tv in July, summer has certainly brightened up !
It's so great to have you back! I was beginning to get anxiety issues because I was worried you'd decided not to continue ...
Pure excitement - sand bucket discovery ! Superb start to series 9 - and the first time I have watched internationally, first half in Sweden, second half in Manchester ! You really need to get to the Stockholm underground and all that art !
Happy to have the 4 of you back! And congrats to Siddy!
The best content on You Tube by a mile. The new bunker is awesome. Well done.
OMG Siddy 2 Underground Boogaloo, the ultimate sequel will grace this Earth! Congratulations!
An excellent episode - Floodgates, Moquette, Tiles, A cast-iron curve and a pending arrival...AND a new HQ...it has it all!!
Loving the Ep!
Looking forward to this and Secrets of the Underground with Siddy, Chris and Timmy off the Telly! ❤ I’m watching footy right now (sorry) so just popped in and will watch the whole thing later.
The gang are back......and not a moment too soon!
Sixth Doctor reference there?
The company I worked for built and installed a lot of the grey digital clocks on the platforms. As part of that I also built quite a few master clocks that were installed in the stations, they used a GPS signal for several satellites. Very interesting look round behind the curtain thanks guys.
👍👍
*Super glad to see you LTM Quad back with a fresh season of episodes…always keep them coming :)*
Fantastic to see you back - thank you!! I arrived from Western Australia at the end of April on the 5.30am time slot, made my way to the Piccadilly Line tube, and I still cannot believe the first thing that went through my head was "Man, that moquette could do with a good dry clean" 🤣 You four were in my head far too much on my journeys on the tube this trip! Thanks for great content 🥰
So glad you guys are back. Really like the new format with all four of you at the table. So cool seeing the old Leslie Green tiles hidden away at the station. Looking forward to seeing where else you've explored this season.
Love the hangouts, great team! Alex is a super host of the shows. TBH man crush on Nixy
❤ bless you! And there’s a four-letter acronym to describe Nixy, apparently. You’re not the only one to appreciate him 😉
Yayyyy. Been waiting for this. Glad you’re on your way back.
10:52 the Hold the Handrail posters were one of my delightful discoveries last time I visited London, such a cool retro style poster. Actually missed this episode when it came up and am watching this now before Episode 2.
I used to work at the GEC factory that made a lot of the old relays for the underground. Back in the late 90s I was giving a tour to some LUL people and showed them our museum. They pointed out that LUL still had some of those museum items protecting the network!
Yesssssss the fab4 are back missed you guys and cant wait to see whats in store for series 9 😊
Lovely to see you all together and a Marianne Straub moquette table cloth!
Missed you guys. I love Waterloo, because there are so many layers and so much history. And I LOVE the new hang-out.
Is it at Camden town
The studio!!!! Epic. The perfect transition for Season 9.
Well done team!! Another fantastic episode! I am so glad to see you back on the screen!! Well done Chris for doing all the editing as well! Yes I watched to the end credit!!!😁
Can't wait,will be watching.
Wonderful - a new series of the Hangouts 😊
Long awaited :)
Yay! Looking forward to it. ❤
Thanks for yet another fantastic episode. Really liked the "no smoking anywhere on the underground" sign running above the emergency exit lift doors than on a normal day no one is ever going to see!!
Better then Euro games on
Can't wait! I have done 2 Hidden London tours while waiting for this! Had to use my time well in London!
Thank God you are back have missed you all so much ❤️
Welcome back. Lovely to see you all together on you're new hangout home. Look forward to enjoying Season 9
Well worth the wait. Congratulations Siddy!
So good to have you back!
Ooh they’re back 🚇🤩🥰 Thank you 😃🤩🎉 👏 ✅
Thought you’d all got yourselves lost down some dark hidden chasm!
I can’t wait for this welcoming back
Fantastic video! Thanks team!
Incredible stuff!
your game of “what’s that smell” trying hard to be polite and inoffensive yet get the point across that it’s not pleasant is your best bit of unintentional funny moments
and kudos for creating your own podcasting studio, the foam added to the look of the bunker
Missed you all, Welcome back!
great to have you all back and loving the new 'studio'. Keep up the good work.
Welcome to season 9! Always love your videos guys. One of the best ever!
OMG, As promised we had it all, we had, Dirt, Tiles, Tunnels, Cupboards, Grundy, Nixy, Siddy, Laura, Plus OMG an Extra Bonus a Little Baby Siddy :-) OMG Congratulations to Siddy. Fantastic Start to Series 9. I don't even live near London, i'm all the way down in Devon, But over the last 9 series I've Become a right Tube NERD !!. I love the History of the Tube i find it all fascinating !
Bevel Gear Richard's daughter hilarious! Congrats Siddy.
Welcome back guys, another wonderful, albeit longer episode. Look forward to the next episode.
I've loved these episodes. So glad you guys are back. Here's to another nine serieses!!!!!
Hi team, a big welcome back ! So love the new studio i can now see you all in HD.
What a fantastic first episode you gave us, so much history in left in this station.
Thank you all very much for a brilliant tour ❤❤🤗
Great episode, guys 😊
It’s back season 9 and what a station to start with, I know Alex is a fan of Eurovision will he be doing any ABBA 😂
I’m more Super Blooper than Super Trooper….
OK, own up. Who thought Dancing Queen? 😂
Love the show guys can't for next one ❤
Welcome back team ❤
Welcome back guys!! Fantastic start to S9. I do love a mucky episode 😂
Yay can’t wait 😍… I wondered what happened it felt like such a short last series. I only checked back yesterday in case I had missed something and now I’ve had a popup for start of s9 😍
Oh wow brilliant brilliant episode
Been around since series 1 and blimey you are back with a bang for series 9!!! I absolutely love the new studio setup that really brings the bits between the VT to the next level. Nevermind the cracking station visit to Waterloo, so much awesome behind the scenes stuff! Well done team Hangouts :)
So glad you guys are back. I love Waterloo. Was in London in August last year and we used the underground every day, so was great to see some of Waterloo's hidden features. It was also nice to see the floodgates that were made down the road from me in Kilmarnock.
Lots of ABBA and Kinks mentions in the comets but let’s not forget another Waterloo song by Shocking Blue and the amazing voice of Mariska Veres!
Marvellous, fascinating. In latter half of 1960s as child had many visits with mother to Moorfields Eye Hospital via Tottenham Court Road tube station and could see the edge of the floodgate at end of the platform.
Can’t wait, it’s been far too long 😊
Poor Siddy she wont be able to squeeze through those tight gaps soon 😂💪❤️
Welcome back all .
Excellent work, liked of course, so good to delve into the nooks and crannies! You have another happy subscriber!!
yay...here we go
Yeahh!!!
Welcome all 5 of you!
Congratulations Siddy.
Ah, welcome back! I know this isn’t what it’s all about, but I do think that Laura has the shiniest hair I’ve ever seen! Also loving the new bunker. Tracking shots! Production values have really ramped up!
Great episode, loved the remaining glimpses of Leslie Green tiles, and presented from a secret bunker 😊❤
Welcome back guys
Watching this from Australia, love the videos
❤❤ great. your back
Looking forward to this feels like ages sincr the last one
Google has you listed as: Secrets Of The London Underground Returns For Series 4 and not 9, none the less team, great to have you back 😊.
My initial impression @ only 5 mins in: The acoustic foam does wonders. Still a bit of 'tunnel slapback' for your studio, some acoustic foam above and on the flat wall would go a long way, or even a hanging carpet on the flat wall. Cozy and 'coustic.
Ah we have further plans! The studio is a work in progress and you’ll see little developments in episodes to come.
@@chrisnix6352 Excellent. It's refreshing to see productions using what exists, and adapting it to need, rather than paying for some gaudy set that bears no relevance to the topic.
Love it, love it, love it.
Love the bunker !!!
Congrats Siddy of course
Im really sorry but you guys do look like Cybermen from Dr Who.
However. Love it again.
Loving the bunker!!
50:40 the only thing I can think of is that the little pulley is something to do with an old magneto phone that may have been in the cupboard. The handsets were weighed using a pulley on the cable to keep them secure and you could pull the handset out quite easily. We had them in tunnel signal cabins on the Central line. It’s possible that an old telephone point to contact the Controller, Station master etc was in that cupboard at some point. As it’s located at the head wall, it would have been a handy location for the driver. Not entirely sure though.
Great video as always - however the PW tool at 46mins isn't a rail lifting tongue, it's a clip puller for installing Pandrol or other brand elastic rail clips. 🙂
Welcome back
Love the new studio. One thing, it could do with a model tube train on a shelf as well!
Welcome back to all
How convienient I was at a tube station ( I think Charing Cross) today when I saw a tour going on
I do hope you have a lift down to your new crib for poor Siddy.
(Like this station and this place!)
Also, it used to be two bus routes, 507 and 521 a year ago.
Welcome back guys! Great episode tonight but just one suggestion - please raise the camera at the end of the table next time so that Siddy and Laura haven't got their heads hidden by the mics. Thanks, @funkymalc 😉
Great episode. The double escape stair case is a helix.
Great to see the "flood gates" opening on a new series! I wonder if there will there be any "Sliding Doors" on the Waterloo & City to discover? 🤔
Those floodgates are amazing. I remember watching the North End episode deep down in that non-station looking at the control panels and a brief view of a floodgate (and original pictures?), but the fact that all of Waterloo's are still there is special. I wouldn't fancy the job of cleaning them though :D
Is that P Way handtool not for use with Pandrol clips? The clips that hold the rail to the chair.
