    If you're doing this for aeration get a pond aerator, it's a much better way to oxygenate the entrie water column and not just the top. It helps break down the crud by feeding O2 to the beneficial bateria that eat the muck on the bottom. A fountain doesn't get O2 down to the bottom. Best cheap option is a septic aerator.

      @me1assassin Місяць тому

      Isn't all air actually added to the surface? I thought an 'aerators' biggest contribution is to draw brackish/bottom water up the column of bubbles and create circulation of surface water back to the bottom'ish. Something you need to be careful of in the summer if pond is somewhat (less than say appx 6ft), will overheat the water.

    Aeration can be diy also. Air pump can run 24/7 with low power needs. All you sink is the weighted airline. I had a dead pond, slightly larger than yours. I brought it back to life in one season. Weedtrine-D for the vegetation and your fish and aquatic life will be fine. Good luck.

      Hey there I am going to make one of these pond pumps, can you please explain to me how to incorporate the aerator?

    • @me1assassin
      @me1assassin Місяць тому

      So, you need a power source, an air pump, weighted line, and an aerator? How much? Parts you used? Thanks.

      @@me1assassin it’s been several years and I do not live at that property, but if memory serves, I bought a Danner septic pump. I think it moves like 5500 in.³ per minute. In 2017 when I installed it I think all in I was less than 300 now today probably closer to 450.

      @@mountainviewfarmandfeed7052 the weighted airline connects from the air pump to the aeration stone or whatever you choose to use we use the double bubbler and then sank it in the middle of the pond. I hope that helps.

    Been watching for a while now and you have officially reached a level of "Dad does it all" that I can't keep up with lol I was with you on the lawn stuff. Hell even some of the electric and HVAC install but now fountains?! hahah thanks for the vid this was cool man

    Ripples are good for slowing mosquito populations but it also disrupts beneficial amphibians. Submerging a stainless steel burner from a grill or fire pit OR a drilled out hula-hoop and forcing air down to it as an intermittent aerator makes for a much more efficient and less disruptive design. It'll also help keep the solid waste from building up as fast. They can also attract any bass for some night fishing (if you stock them).
    As for floating pumps, the easiest fountain is probably a bilge pump hooked up to an oscillating sprinkler. If you go with a stand pipe of PCV, make it more visually appealing and less disruptive to the surface by:
    1) Putting on an end cap and using a Dremel or hacksaw to cut out 2-4 notches in the pipe at 30 degrees from parallel; making an atomizer/mister.
    2) Putting on an elbow joint and heating the open end to soften it to squish it down around a chisel or bastard file; making a fan.
    3) Buying a bell fountain head in order to get some laminar flow for less noise.
    Personally, I would have submerged the pump, drilled a channel in that rock for the piping and made a waterfall or splash pad (based of rate of flow from the pump).

    I'd love to see you try this with a DC pump and a 200-400 watt solar panel, no batteries in between. Sort of like a large version of those solar powered birdbath fountains. You have plenty of sun by your pond!

    There's a small pond that was deep enuf to engulf an unseen car. The city dredged it, brought out all sorts of junk. They put in a fountain with a high arc and a big solar panel to power it, the type seen by highways.
    They landscaped the area and it's really beautiful.

    Could be completely wrong and it could just be my late night brain here - but I wonder if you put a 30 or 45 degree elbow joint just at the top of your pvc.. would it flatten out the trajectory of the water and cause increased surface agitation over a larger area?
    Hmm 🧐

    I like your little pond. It's cute. Do you use a weed eater to manage the vegetation around it? Looks like it is time for a trim. I can't keep up this summer around my place. Some areas are pretty tall.

      @SilverCymbal  Рік тому +4

      Thank you, I only mow two spots into the pond. Its tough to see on the video but there are a ton of wildflowers and other activity around it, so my plan is to leave the edges natural except for the access points. They play a big part for keeping the water clear too I think.

      Keeping veg along a shoreline reduces the chances that geese will set up. They don't like walking through tall veg to get to a lawn.
