I was the off-screen writer for the folding ideas video. You probably didn't know this at the time, but what you created here is by far and away the most thorough documenting of this event in existence as far as I am aware - and I looked. Without getting pretentious, this vlog did the very important job of preserving an unimportant event and I'm sincerely grateful you made it. It's also just a good video, I rewatched it for fun like two weeks ago.
We ended up using a segment of this video where you reference the implementation of VR into Decentraland - the plan to implement VR was scrapped years ago but users still nebulously talk about VR support through 3rd party mods or the potential for the Foundation to pick it back up. In that way it allows myths about the product to spread. The soundbite in this video was precisely what we needed to make that point, and since you made the mistake of doing the best job of anyone discussing the MVFW - we couldn't find a better example than your clip.
I just wanted to say that I hope you don't take our use of the clip in the wrong way. The goal wasn't to ascribe blame to you or any other individuals, just to highlight a particular phenomenon with a particular kind of web3 grift.
Thanks again for making this. I hope you ignored the email for this year's metaverse fashion week. Actually that is a lie, I would get a huge kick out of a sequel.

For what its worth, VR as a feature has been scrapped completely, and it may be worth watching Folding's vid to get some insight on the quality of Decentraland (as if youre unfamiliar with these things it can be easy to see this as a semi-competent product), but i do like the video!

Hey I’m here from folding ideas! Really great video as well to finally see your full opinion. After watching the show the biggest problem I see immediately is how laggy and how hard it is to see the fashion on the models, it’s not as inspiring as real runway models. While I’m not a fan of the whole concept, I think a smarter way they should have done it was create a zoom style call with photo realistic models in a live stream with virtual fashion on top of them and maybe some physical fashion mixing some tech elements as a second show again as a live stream showcasing lighting and effects within the garments. The total online version looks like a really low quality second life. It looks deeply unprofessional especially with how the event planner was not even correct half the time which is not far to you who is trying to attend the event on time.

When you said you were excited for the sustainability panel I was like “oh no” because I knew immediately it was going to just be a shill panel for ~metaverse clothing~
What drives me CRAZY about this business model is that it’s just a glorified photoshop commission. This isn’t clothing, it’s just commissioning an artist to add cgi effects to your Instagram/tiktok posts. You don’t even receive the model of the clothing they photoshopped on you to use for yourself. There is no reusability here, since it would take a significant amount of work to “use” that clothing over again (ie it takes work to rig a clothing model to a video game character, and it takes work to photoshop cgi clothes into photos every single time you do it).
I’ve done 3D model clothing commissions and cgi commissions, so I’m well aware of how non-scalable this is. It’s fun for niche purposes (vtubing, vr avatars, custom animations) but these uses require tons of work themselves to implement. This metaverse clothing bullshit is just a scam. Anyone who claims it’s an alternative to irl clothing is either vastly unaware of how this works or they’re scamming you.

nah. this is them trying to make a quick buck off shitty models and programming, so many vr games are way, way better than this 💀💀 even vrchat which came out way before the metaverse looks about a thousand times better
i love how some basic instinct in your mind is telling you to run as far away as possible from decentraland even though you don't know half of what you're dealing with.
