Thank you!! I was there for the 1968 stock car championship when my ship, USS Hugh Purvis DD-709, was coming home from a WestPac cruise. These races were the wildest thing I had ever seen on a motor track. There was no barrier, no fence except for dirt filled barrels. Spectators would walk right up to the track and did until giant clods of mud came raining down on them and when, not if a car hit a barrel, it was run for your life.. It was a blast and no track has ever come close to this much fun and actual danger since.. I love New Zealand, and New Plymouth, and Stratford..
Thanks for the video my dad raced there quite often his car was number 9 Mike Anderson at the begining of the video had some great times there Ill drop a couple of other names Spike Richarson Peter Headley Jack Narei and Jester Brothers I remember the clods of dirt on the corners the smell of ethanol and before and between races the speakers playing the Hollies and a banned song Tell Laura I love her about a stock car drivers car going up in flames All the drivers were competitive when racing but had a great comradie after the race and often fix each others cars before the next race the racing didnt stop at the track my dad use the eace back to Palmerston North with 10 other drivers towing their stockcars lol

Sadley theres no audio, would love to hear the sound of these old beasts ,and the commentator would be fun to hear too .
