Post 22 Feb update: I think auto hover when active (CVS green) over compensates in trying to maintain position and self induces oscillation. You can seen the CVS and ALV lights go funky between green and amber. It eventually oscillates the aircraft out of hover criteria. Coupled with auto slave that is also WIP and you could find the Gazelle upside down. Probably better off not using these modes for the time being as they are more unreliable than performing a manual hover and heading alignment. Also, the stick’s autopilot button is a toggle that is required to put the auto hover and auto slave in a ‘ready’ state to go green from amber whenever within auto hover criteria. (AP altitude and AP speed are not working as far as I can tell.)

It is a very good time to get her out the hangar. The changes they made are for the better in almost every aspect. While the auto hover is not as conevnient as the old version it's more like the real thing now.

The L model is the only one allowed on Enigmas Server , can you auto slave the Gazelle with the periscope sight to target or do you have to do it manually?

I wish Polychop would make a George like AI that can do the shooting cause in the L it can be a real challenge to fly and shoot at the same time.

Thanks for a good video. Unfortunately for me I'm not able to get the autohover to activate even when I'm perfectly still in the air (constant altitude and the cross on the AI is in the midle). The light comes on, but it's yellow, not green. Any tip on what could be missing? I have switched on the 3 bottom switches as well.
Mh without seeing what you do it's just going through the checklist. You say you have artificial horizon knob to DOP and a perfect cross: Ground speed less than 18 kph Roll and pitch angle less than 30 degree Vertical speed less than 60 m/m (needle is within the two small lines next to zero) You say you have 3 switches up, but it must be 4, the flat silver one left to the channels also (AP power switch). That one is up too? What about the most right switch (alt hold and speed hold switch)? I think this one has to be in middle position. Not sure rn.
@@nazradu Thanks for taking the time to help! Yes, the AP power (silver) is also up/on and the rightmost I have tried in all 3 positions. I come to a near-perfect hover and I then activate the autohover and it turns on, but the yellow light only. What is actually the purpose of the yellow light? Standby? Should it be in standby before I try to activate it? The button I'm using seems only to toggle it between yellow and off. Is there some option that need to be on to make autohover work?
@@HillmanNor Amber means armed but not active. If it's armed it should go active when criterias are good. Could it be you hit the Auto Pilot Master Button before you hit the Auto Hover Toggle? The makes the AP disengage. Lights will go amber but never green until you hit the Master Button again. There is no indicator for that one (you just see a brief depress on the right black button on the cyclic). Just never touch that one!
Hi @@nazradu. Just gave it another go, this time in a hot-start mission and everything worked like a charm. Even more forgiving than I expected. Obviously there must be something missing in my startup procedure, maybe some alignment that I forgot... Long time since I flew the Gazelle, but now I will brush up on those skills again! :-)
@@HillmanNor I would say you did forget to turn the gyro knob to GM (the box below the RWR after turning the gyros need around 2 minutes to calibrate). In that case you see a orange flag on the lower right corner on your HSI labeled CAP and the box below the RWR has two red white striped windows.
relearning the gazelle again, FM is okay. But the Autohover is too unstable in times for me. Seems like i was the only person in Dcs who liked the old " version" better. at least you could equalize the natural flaws of the hot3 missle (short range) by predictible controlling the aircraft in flight and hover , allmost every time .which made it easier to get close to something like a strela or a thor unit.
Honestly to the time of making the video I did not even use it a lot for two reasons. First is, that you can trim her into an almost perfect hover, second is that I prefere running engagements over hover engagements.
I wish Poly would introduce their AI co pilot to this module. i mean its not like the AH64 where u can slew urself. it pretty much requires a second man, and is the only 2 seater that requires a second that doenst have one.
@@wisco-ninja yeah they did rework the FM but no one would have bought anything from the with the old FM on the Gazelle, so I think they kind of had to do it. But I agree. If they would put some AI into the Gazelle, I might get excited about Polychop and buy the Kiowa. But they miss out on that opportunity it looks like.

I've been looking at it, and considering it, but the 20mm, and ability to carry troops as well are slightly more appealing to me. plus it's got quirks, which I already have the Viggen, Harrier, M2000 and F1, and Fishbed, plus huey and mi28, would kinda complete my collection lmao.
CVS won't turn green no matter what... master switch on (so are the 3 switches to the right), my ground speed is perfect (2 knots), vertical speed null and the needles on the ADI are crossed, is it bugged right now?
@@roxout5743 Could also be you switched speed hold or altitude hold. There is a three way switch right to the SAS channel switches. Has to be in middle position

I do prefer manual hover too and don't mind a bit of drift. It can help to not get sniped by tanks.

the autohover works but it's refusing to control my yaw, so the moment i let go of my yaw controls the helicopter goes crazy
The system does not hold yaw for you. Working as intended. Only the slave to camera mode takes controle over the yaw.

Yeah true, but from my experience studies always just move on to the latest module. Would be nice to see something different here.
@nazradu I mean they did remake the flight model. If they gave it a george AI system it could give some other modules a run for their money (MI24)

Hot start or cold start? If cold: Did you turn on the gyros at start up?
@@nazradu it was a hot start (i was doing a training mission), and when I cold start I make sure to turn the gyros knob to GM

I got a button bound. It's called something with TV/Hot in the settings. Or you can press that round button on the box in the bottom right corner
Do you still use rudder when you activate slave mode
On slave mode you don't as the chopper will follow the center view of the sight.
