fun video! thanks! I'm using Cahiers. I generally like Moleskine, and also like the name. I'm impressed with the unique writing that Paul Valéry

I really enjoyed your video series. I agree with the ranking of your video for the reasons/categories that you came up with. I am a notebook lover. Pocket notebooks are one of my favorite types of notebooks. I do have a pocket size travelers notebook cover from Red Pen Travelers. ( no longer in business ) the owner Toni is a truly amazing person. Maybe one day you will get into covers for your pocket notebooks. Until then I say keep writing, creating, and testing new notebooks. There are many more. Oh also the nicer thicker paper you came across in some of the notebooks is for us fountain pen users. If you ever get into fountain pens please check out many other UA-camrs on affordable ( pen and gear your favorite from Walmart) makes excellent notebooks that can hold up to fountain pens. I am subscribing and I look forward to your future videos.

It won't have much effect tbh! I mentioned I ranked the pen and gear based on out of the package. Had I ranked it based on my own upgrades, it would have been 1st by a landslide. I did it that way so it would be a fair ranking!

Ever since I discovered you, I've been trying to get into the habit of carrying a pocket notebook to help with my ADHD. My phone is one big little distraction machine, and no matter how much I try to simplify, turn off notifications, reduce the number of apps I use, etc., I will still get lost on it in a heartbeat. ANYTHING can distract me. Therefore, I want to have the notebook on me at all times so that if I get an idea, I can jot it down right away without having to open my phone.
However, I have run into my fair share of issues with pocket notebooks in general. Finding the right one for me has been difficult. Size is not the only issue; shape and durability are also big things to consider. I was drawn to the Pen + Gear because of its size and shape (and price). They fit much better into the pockets of most clothing that I wear. However, even with reinforcing the cover like you do, I found that they were tearing up way too easily. Therefore, I ended up switching to a hardback, top-spiral notepad from Dollar Tree. It's slightly taller, but the hardback is much more durable.
But this leads me to my next issue: keeping a pen with the notebook. No matter which notebook I use, I have to remember to carry a pen with it. It's easier if I can attach a pen loop, but that's not always practical, and on top of that, most pens are longer than the notebook and make the entire shape awkward to try and fit into a pocket. I have been looking forever to find some mini gel pens (like ones made for little kids) that would fit into the spiral of my current notebook, but even Amazon doesn't seem to have them anymore. So I've had to adjust by clipping a pen to my shirt. That way, at least it's still on my body along with the notebook. I've been super envious of that pouch you use for your notebook and pen bc I would love to have something like that, but I can't afford it right now.
Another issue I have is messiness. I'm a recovering perfectionist. My own handwriting drives me nuts because it gets super messy if I'm in a hurry. So, sometimes going back thru and reading what I've written can be headache-inducing. I like to be able to tear out pages without messing up the notebook, which is why I like spiral notebooks. But the spiral can get bent, which makes turning pages awkward. So I'd like to get into using a bound book like the Pen + Gear...but it goes back to the issue of durability, which also ties into the messiness...
It's little things like this that my brain will sometimes get hung up on and defeat the purpose of carrying any notebook and pen, which is just to get my thoughts down on paper before I lose them.
I do also carry a purse, but I don't carry one everywhere, otherwise I'd just keep a notebook and pen there and call it a day. I want to have a notebook ON me, literally, at all times bc I never know when I'm walking from room to room within my house or using the restroom at work or sitting in my car and BAM! An idea hits me out of absolutely nowhere, be it a story idea (I'm also a writer) or an idea for a home project. Or it could be something as simple as remembering a thing to do or buy or a song I want to download, a TV show or movie I want to watch, a book I want to read. Any one of the million thoughts flying through and bouncing around in my head at any given moment.
One more thing I wanted to mention: I actually have a hardback pocket Moleskine that I found at a thrift store for a buck. It's several years old. It must have been a special promotion with Evernote bc the cover had the Evernote icon on it, plus it had a code for a free trial of premium. I've since covered the Evernote stuff with washi tape and added a pen loop, and I carry it in my purse sometimes. But it's taking me forever to use it bc it's too pretty! It's just like you said about the classic one you reviewed! lol

I feel like EDC books should be more flexible with the cover. Another thing I don't like about the pocket moleskines that I have is that I don't like the added stiffness of the back cover. I know it's necessary for the pocket but to me it feels weird having two different types of cover....also I enjoy playing with flexible covers 😂 I do prefer ivory colored paper because white is too blinding in some situations 😂 Your hand dropping onto that notebook was kinda funny actually 😂 I love that you crafted a tier list instead of a digital list. I think this was pretty fair.

Slide any of those pocket notebooks into a folio cover and the downside doesn't matter, it all becomes about the paper and the writing experience.

Instead of the moleskine, I would use the Rohdia Webbook instead. The paper is ten time better(also you don't end up with books with mixed paper quality like you do with Moleskine), comes in dot grid or regular grid even in the pocket size, and also if you don't want the hard cover, you can also buy them in softcovers(like the fieldbooks) too. Granted paper quality really only becomes an issue if your using a really wet fountain pens, or thicker line pens, like a 0.7 pilot g2.
I need to try out the Lochby grid too! I notice they have some nice covers that go along with it.
